    Crossbows

Seems a lot of guys are opposed to crossbows during archery season. I thought it was for disabled guys but I hear claims of just lazy people getting permits. Why doesn’t someone petition the department to get them out of archery hunts? this idea is going to go over like a turd in a punch bowl but they are going to have hard numbers on crossbow kills. Give disabled xbow hunters their own season and reduce the archery numbers by that amount. Not gonna change anything since they are already counting it as archery take.

Am I missing something or is it just speculation that spikes and forkies are being killed alongside the road.

If it falls through let me know. If the warden says it’s ok I am interested

It looks like opportunity is going to be less under the quota system. Can’t wait to see what the late desert hunts are going to look like.

Let the air out of the tires. It’s not a drastic difference it will do the trick most of the time

Okay. I don’t. I use a sight, rangefinder, release on my 300 fps compound

    Crossbows

You got it wrong no tags. I recently lost 50% of my left arm. Just because someone doesn’t like crossbows during archery hunts doesn’t mean I am going to be sitting at home wishing I was hunting. I could give two shits what they like. I switched to a left hand bow. That didn’t work. I am going to try traditional. If that doesn’t work I don’t have a problem with a crossbow. Mouth tab? No way. 40 years of Copenhagen resulted in mouth reconstruction. I got too much money involved to risk shooting a mouth tab.

    Crossbows

They are going to have hard numbers on weapon type. Since they already are being counted as archery kills reduce archery permits and season length accordingly. While we’re at it let’s ban compound bows. The use of scopes, sights, releases give them an unfair advantage over stick bows.

You have done too much for the hunting community. I will disagree but I won’t disrespect you

    Desert Mule Deer

I sat and watched 2 big bedded desert bucks on top of a mountain lay there and watch hunters tearing the road up looking for deer. Saw a bachelor herd of 8 do the same thing. Both times rifle hunts. These guys have given some good advice here. Big bucks like the flats but if there are breakers in the area a guy can get lucky. Another often overlooked area is the transition area of a big mountain to the flats. There is usually a strip of vegetation there that is different than flats or mountain. Black lava rock mountains hold deer sometimes. There is a greenhouse effect. Moisture doesn’t evaporate as quickly and the rocks hold heat. There will often be greener browse there. I have pictures of big bucks feeding near the top of malapai mountains. Above all else, they gotta drink. No water no deer and they are where you find them Big desert mule deer can be impossible to pattern good luck

I pretty much got ignored over a javelina problem. They did $25000 in crop damage to an emerging cotton field. G&F could have cared less. I finally raised enough heck they sent a guy out to set up a pen trap. What a freakin joke!

I have owned both Yamaha and Honda. They are comparable machines. I traded my Honda in on a Viking and in many ways wish I had kept the Honda. Viking has more legroom and a bit more clearance but it’s very loud. The Honda has automatic transmission which was nice and much quieter. Leg room was a little more cramped but I have been told on the 1000’s they have added a bit more to that. As far as trailers go I’ve never had an issue with one getting hung up. Just use a little common sense and you should have no issues. as to maintenance, keep the oil changed, clean air filter in it and there should be no problems with either one.

In dry years deer pile up in the ag fields. They create a lot of damage. Wet years they are back in the desert. There are still desert giants. Compared to 25-30 years ago there is nowhere near as many.

The quota system is going to decrease opportunity. it looks like some units are going to close quickly which IMO will push hunters into open units which will just create more overcrowding. I can't wait to see what the late desert hunts are going to look like. Something else, this is a very wet summer. I wonder how quickly some of these quotas are going to be met in dry years when every waterhole has a guy sitting on it.

The western desert units are a train wreck compared to 25 years ago both quality and quantity.
