K9, that is exactly what is going on here under the guise of protecting our heritage as they call it. They are connecting the dots and locking us out if we allow it. -
losing access to hunting lands
creed replied to creed's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
They are wanting to link existing wilderness areas together creating huge tracts of land that would be accessible by foot or horseback. Then with the creation of NCA's, much of the prime hunting habitat in these areas would not be accessed by motorized vehicle, or if allowed there would be only a handful of roads that could be driven on. If you read their propaganda it sounds good but I am not willing to give up access to public land. The BLM and their travel management plans will take care of much of the perceived problem. I brought this up but their fear is that it gives the BLM the option of coming back and revising things. If Congress gets hold of it and passes it then it is set in stone and highly unlikely that it would ever revert back. This is just the beginning I think. It was pointed out that there are still many parts of western AZ that are not designated wilderness and should be. Hunters are notorious about not letting their voices be heard. We need to at the very least let our feelings be known. These people are driven and apparently have the resources to at least get the ball rolling in their direction IMO. Here are the remaining meetings times and places. Thursday Nov 10th, 7-9 PM Wickenburg Community Center 175 E. I had a lion cross right in front of me too. I know the local rancher and told him. He was going to get some dogs in there as he was having lion problems with cattle. I was kind of surprised at the amount of bear sign. Last time I hunted there I saw nothing. This time there was bear sign nearly everywhere I hunted. I got farther north at the end of the hunt just to see if conditions there were similar. It was a lot greener and we saw a couple of good bucks hanging in trees. Better luck next time, maybe. And even though it was dry it is still some beautiful country.

I've always considered myself an accomplished mule deer hunter but just hunted 5 days straight during the muzzy hunt and didn't see one buck. I was on the extreme southern end of the hunt area and don't know think that I have ever had such a hard time finding deer. It has been a few years since I hunted there and was wondering if this was the norm or if the dry conditions and predators are taking a toll on the deer numbers. Or maybe it is just my lack of hunting skills. Whatever the reason it was one tough hunt.

I think most of you guys missed the glory years of unit 42 from many years ago. 190+ bucks were not that uncommon during the general hunts. Hunter over crowding was not an issue then either although up to 600 permits were given out. There were deer widespread across the unit in good numbers. We had a palo verde tree in our camping spot that we hung over 60 deer in during that time. Today there is about half that many permits given out and hunter over crowding in many areas. Good luck to you tag holders.

I've had this hunt several times. It can be a very tough hunt but if you stay after it you can get onto some great bucks. I used to center my time on 42 because I grew up there but it is beginning to get more pressure than I like. I have a friend that had the tag last year. We hunted in 39. He killed a beautiful 4x4 that pushed 170 and blew an opportunity on his buck's buddy. Another guy took that one a few days later. He grossed 193. I agree with ruthunter. Southwest Hunting Adventures is as good as they get when it comes to finding monster desert muleys. Travis and Troy know their stuff.

I've got a PSE Bow Madness XL, 27-30" draw length, 70lbs, Vapor Trail string. I am selling the bare bow for $375. Also have a Hoyt Vectrix, 30" draw, 70 lbs with Vapor Trail string and cables, new cams and limbs. I have a new Vapor Trail string still in the package that comes with it. Asking $375 for the bare bow. I have accessories for both bows and could work out a price for them if wanted.

One thing that I keep seeing is that State Trust Land is public land. It is not and governed by a different set of rules.

I don't post on here often but felt the need to call for prayer for the people of Japan. The horror that those in the stricken area must be feeling is something that I can't fathom. Although I am one of those apocalyptic Bible thumpers and think that what has happened is a sign of where we are in history, I believe God does care for both the believer and the nonbeliever. Pray for them as a nation and people. Pray for the success of those that are laying their lives on the line to save others. Pray that out of this horrendous disaster that something good can and will come from it.

Here's an email I received from the unit 42 WM concerning a water project this week. I am going to attach a link to a map. If you will click on the link it should take you to the webpage with the map. Click on it and it should enlarge itself otherwise it is hard to read. Hey Bruce, I don’t know if you got the word from Travis yet but we are doing that rebuild of catchment 598 starting next Wednesday afternoon (2nd) thru Sunday (if it takes that long). You’re welcome to come out and help if you are not busy. I've put this up on the other AZ hunting boards and thought I'd put it up here. There have been a couple of questions about start time and it is when you get there. I know some of you guys hunt 42 so here is something to think about. There is going to be a cleanup there early next month. There is alot of trash starting to gather in some of the more popular spots. Another thing is that people are dumping tires. Big piles of tires are starting to show up. Here's some info I got hold of. Dear Volunteer, Thanks for helping out on the first ever unit 42 clean up event. The main clean up and activities will take place on Saturday February 7, 2009. Directions to the camp are below and on the attached map. The roads are paved all the way with the exception of the last ¼ mile of graded dirt road to the camping area. If you are just coming out for the day please stop in at the information area for some guidance on where to park and what will be happening. If you are parking a trailer or pitching a tent we can also point you in the right direction at the info area. We will have some water available but you will need to bring any food with you or head to Wickenburg or Tonopah for supplies (20 miles each way). Our fire pits will be available to anyone wishing to cook or warm up during the day and night. We will have various Information and Education displays and activities going on Saturday. Bring the kids and you may find something fun to do during the breaks from cleaning up trash. Some of the activities planned include an air gun station, geocaching, coloring, and maybe a live animal or two to check out. I hope to see you there.
