Attention everyone please read
creed replied to Maverick351's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
CW4192 is stirring the pot. He is looking to start trouble. This thing has been in the works for awhile. There is a group of hunters, some on this board, that are trying to head it off with some other ideas. If things continue as they are they may stop a draw but there is likely to be some changes to the archery deer hunts. -
I own a pair of the Zeiss and my wife uses the Kaibabs. The Zeiss are comparable to the old SLC's and better than the Kaibabs. They are good glass.

This book is very relevant to AZ and deer habits. Lots of local studies done and some great insight into how deer behave. I think it is a must read for any serious deer hunter in the southwest.

Bump from a guy that just sold his and regretted it all deer season. -
They have a home range that they stay in often forming bachelor herds. When the rut starts all bets are off. I had one buck I watched for several years on trailcam that was killed by a hunter 25 miles from where we got pictures of him. Saw another buck from the same area 20 miles away. Both of these were during the rut. They always returned to their home range in March and were with the same bucks that they were with from the year before. There was no mistaking these were the same deer either. One of them was a perfectly symmetrical 4x4 that would net near 200, the other a big muley buck with a whitetail type rack that grossed 218. They move around when the girls smell good!

I think there is some confusion with the way the license structure is going to affect the draw. On page 8 of the regs under qualifications" it says ""An applicant must possess a license (including lifetime, pioneer or disabled veteran’s) that is valid on the last day of the application deadline for that draw. Youth applying for big game hunts must be licensed. If an applicant does not have a license that meets that requirement, he or she must purchase the license at the time of application." So you can apply with a valid license but if it becomes invalid by the deadline aren't you going to be screwed? Don't you have to purchase another license? That's the way I read this but have been told I am wrong.
-
I read that the same way Coues Assassin. I think there are going to be some unhappy people come draw time. My ex wife had a valid license when she applied but the license will have expired by the application deadline. She would have been disqualified even though the computer recognized her as having a current license when she applied. She went ahead and bought another with a future start date to make sure she was good. I don't know. It's confusing to me but I have a lifetime license so I am not affected by it. Some family and friends will be.

I pulled this off of the Dept's "where to hunt" description of unit 39 White-tailed deer does not regularly come to mind in the Sonoran Desert; however, there are a few small populations found in unit 40A. I have seen several very nice pickups, too include a pickup that scored roughly 122 1/2. I have known hunting camps from time to time take both a white-tailed and mule deer buck out of the same area. The trailcam pics I saw were from a WM's trailcam some years ago. He had one on there that he estimated was 130. That thing looked like an eastern whitetail. The mass and tine length was unreal.

I have seen some trailcam pics from some of these areas that would blow the mind of some of you coues hunters.

If you get to the place that you want to put this up for sale I may be interested. I don't have the glass you are looking for but can maybe sell one of my rifles for the cash if you get to the point you are willing to sell. I am leaving for a week long hunt so next week would be the earliest I would be able to do anything anyway.

Did this come up at the commission meeting this weekend? I couldn't attend or watch online due to family issues but was wondering if the Customer Portal Project is the same thing or something different. It was on the agenda for discussion. Not sure how I feel about this.

So I stopped in at Wal Mart today to pick up a 2015 archery tag. The guy working the counter told me that there would be no archery deer tags sold until January. Didn't we go through this same thing last year? Just wondering if it is Wal Mart or if there is some truth to it. Anyone else have problems getting a 15 tag?
-
I called the Phoenix office and spoke with a lady in the license department. She told me that in regards to tags as soon as the vendor gets them they can sell them and they should have them. I didn't ask about licenses because I hold a lifetime license. Our local Wal Mart is not known for knowledgeable people working in the sporting good dept.
-
I wasn't aware you could buy tags online. I knew about licenses but not tags. Is that something new? I had to drive up there last year and get it since I was hunting the first of the year.

does it have iron sights too?

As a farmer I killed bugs as part of my job for nearly 30 years. I will guarantee that you will not have a spider for at least 2 months and longer if you use this stuff. Put it in a pump up hand sprayer and it is liquid death to spiders and nearly every other kind of bug. And it is fairly notoxic to mammals. http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/cyper-wp-p-228.html?zmam=70093104&zmas=1&zmac=2&zmap=228&gclid=CMD6ypns5cECFRRffgodTAIAvQ

Just read the NWS forecast for this coming week. They are calling for some heavy prolonged rain starting late Friday/Saturday into Tuesday for most of the state. Last year was a slophole where I hunted. I am expecting the same this year. Should make it an interesting hunt! Bring the chains, shovels and a good jack. Learned last year that they are a must!

The weather forecast discussion I read this morning said the atmospheric moisture was going to reach record proportions for this time of year. My concern is national forest road closures. They can and will do it. I spoke with the Coconino NFS office this morning. They are not at this time planning any closures but if the forecasted amount of rain happens they aren't ruling it out either. I've gotta hunt!

I don't need a pair of 15's but I do want to add them to my already good box of optics. I am kind of up in the air about which brand to buy. My wife owns a pair of the Kaibab's. They are decent glass. I have considered a pair of the old SLC's but to be honest I don't think they are that much better. Has anyone had any experience with the Minox 15x56's? I am also considering the Zeiss 15's. I could break down and buy the new Swaro's but can't justify the cost when I already own Nikon Premier 10x42's and a Zeiss 85mm spotter. Any thoughts? I get almost to the point of pulling the trigger on a pair of 15's but at the last minute think that maybe there is better glass for the money. It is hard to tell which is the best by comparing them side by side at Cabela's.

from the National Weather Service forecast discussion for this upcoming weekend .IT APPEARS MORE-AND-MORE LIKELY THAT A SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL EVENT COULD DEVELOP OVER AZ...WITH TEMPS FALLING WELL BELOW NORMAL...WHICH IS VERY UNUSUAL IN MID-LATE AUGUST. THUS...HAVE RAISED POPS ACROSS THE BOARD DURING THIS PERIOD.

Don't know what county you guys let your dogs run but Maricopa County has a leash law. Also have been told by LEO's that if you are having trouble with dogs destroying property or harrassing livestock to shoot them. http://scottsdalecanineacademy.com/maricopa-county-leash-laws/
