Got the results of an MRI back and talked to my doctor. My shoulder joint is pretty much bone on bone, torn bicep is hanging on by a thread, labrum is frayed, full thickness tear of the supraspinatus and infraspinatus, and a moderately severe case of osteoarthritis. Guess I will start looking into some of these doctors you guys mentioned. And since I will likely be unable to pull a bow back I will probably draw elk tags in AZ/NM and an archery antelope tag somewhere. I wasn't going to buy point guard but might be glad I did before it is over.

Physical therapy isn't working so great. Just curious as to how surgery has worked for guys that have had it. It is getting to the point that may be my only option.

I am old too. Up until I tore my rotator cuff I had religiously worked out both with weights and cardio most of my life. But as I have aged arthritis has set in and all the dumb stuff I did in my younger days has caught up. I used to bench press about 330 lbs. Now I can't get my arm raised up shoulder high. My metabolism has slowed and I pack on weight quick. It doesn't come off very well either. I have recently gone back on a diet to attempt to dump 15 lbs and even with a bad shoulder and arthritic knees have made a commitment to get in shape again. There are a lot of exercises that I can't do but there are a lot that I can. Anything is better than nothing. It's a bitch getting old but the alternative doesn't excite me much

How hard would it be to have a secondary card on file if the first card ran into issues?
-
Really? There is a guy on youtube that does a great job of explaining rotator cuff injuries and strengthening exercises. His methods have probably done more for me than all other things combined. Form is everything when rehabbing.

I have 13 bonus points going into this draw and that's enough to put me in the bonus round archery hunts in several units. 3B north and south first hunt, 4B, 10, 18A and 21. Private property issues are an issue with me. I like hunting public land. Anyone familiar with access problems in 4B? Are there antelope on public land in 4B? I was through part of the unit once but that is it. I drew 18A years ago when it was combined with 10 and 18B and it had issues in some of the better antelope country back then. It's closer to home but I am reluctant to put in for it. A friend told me that 21 is a waste of good bonus points. Any truth to that? Lots of dumb questions I know but inquiring minds need to know this stuff before blowing 13 hard earned bonus points.

I have had the same issues. I called and they told me to wait for the system to update after applying, usually 3-4 days and then try again. It worked for me. I have been able to purchase point guard for everyone on my applications but it took awhile to get it done.

First time I ever applied for a rifle antelope hunt I drew with only the hunter ed point. There were four of us on the application and we were the first ones drawn after the then 10% pool. I have drawn archery antelope tags with 6 points. Archery tags in NM as a nonresident are easier to draw. It's just a long way from home and getting scouting time is a PITA. Thanks for the input. I went ahead and applied for the 7 and 18B archery hunts. Likely will just acquire another point.

One of my favorite places. I planned on going up there this spring just to look at the flowers.

Going from last year's numbers it took 14 to get into the bonus round. 18B would be my first choice but it took 14 to get into the bonus round last year with it too.

Been hunting desert muleys for 50 years and I have just spent the last month chasing them. I see many more deer bedded down at first glassing light with a full moon. I used to sit water alot and always noticed the full moon affected deer activity around water. IMO a full moon sucks but if that is when you can hunt get after it . I don't let it affect me.

i have owned 2 popups. My last one had a slide out. It leaked cold air much worse than my old one. Unless you need the extra room I would stay away from the slide outs. Another thing I did was duct tape all the cracks on the doors. They leave a lot to be desired. Both had heaters which helped but I carried a champion generator with me and ran space heaters in extremely cold weather. I have since bought a toyhauler but am considering buying a smaller used popup. I can get them into rough places and they have features that are pretty nice. Also have a Kodiak Canvas 10x14 that gets a lot of use at times.

My wife's son stripped out the mounting hole in her Kaibabs trying to keep the Vortex adapter tight. The factory adapter is worthless IMO. I had an extra Zeiss adapter but it is too wide to work not allowing the binos to fold in so she can see through them. I am going to buy a different adapter but was wanting to know what would work well. Any suggestions?

maybe you should before commenting. I don't need to. He isn't perfect and has his faults. He is my friend.

I haven't read the thread that started this. But how many of you know Travis personally? I have known him for many years. He sometimes says things that he maybe shouldn't but the guy is as good a desert sheep guide as there is. Ditto as a person. He's a great guy if you know him and a wealth of knowledge when it comes to giant desert mule deer and sheep.

This has been going on for years by various groups. G&F bust them and another takes over. There was one bust several years ago where they had some kind of evidence of over 30 deer poached. A local farmer had set out trail cameras and has pictures of the trucks. These guys get busted and another takes their place. In a dry year like this where the deer are stacked up in the ag areas poachers take a heavy toll.

42 was closed in Dec because they claimed archers were taking too many deer. IMO that was not the case. In any event according to the way their guidelines are drawn up it should be opened again. It's not going to happen though.

I know what group of people you are talking about. It is still going on. They sell the meat commercially.

Just got her new ones back last week. I am not impressed with the adapter she has now. Think you guys have sold me on the Outdoorsman. Thanks to all for the input!

Anyone picked one up yet? Seems my neck of the woods is almost always the last place to get them.

I have come back to a campsite a week later and found coyotes dug up the outhouse waste burial site. If I had not known better I would have thought it was slobs camping there. Just another reason to kill 'em.

best book about how to hunt desert muleys
creed replied to azdesert rat's topic in Hunting and Outdoors-related books
Not really a hunting book although there are some hunting tips but Deer of the Southwest by Jim Heffelfinger has some great info on desert muleys. Several studies done in units 41 and 42. Read it and get up high with glass and he should be good to go. -
Strings and cables are one of those you get what you pay for things. Everyone has their favorite but in reality most major string manufacturing companies make a quality string. Prestretched is a must. There will be a shoot in period usually around 50-100 shots. Peep sight and nock point will need to be set, unless you are very lucky it will need to be sighted in again. Nock point and peep can be off just a fraction and affect point of impact. If you change the cables timing will need to be checked after the break in period. I use high quality strings and still have had slight timing issues. Also your bow should have the tune checked. That is something I always do after a set of string and cables replace.

What kind of tripod adapter fits them?
