You know I could make a really smart a$$ comment about ASU right now but I thing this sums it up better than anything I could say. Thank god I live in Wildcat country and I don't have to deal with the brain dead scum Devils. All in good fun guys, I could not resist. Sorry you're a wild scat desert dog Must be terrible knowing we ASU folks own you guys! lol but in all reality, I chose ASU over UofA because we have one of top 10 Accounting and Economics Bachelors of Science programs in the country for state universities. And I saw WAY more violence living/growing up in/by Tucson than I have seen in Phoenix. Both cities have high crima rates though.

Me too...never really hunted that unit, so it's kind of exciting to me...the bf is familiar. Best of luck on your hunt!

game retrieval w/ horses any interest?
azhuntergirl replied to tomgobbler's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
If I still had horses, that would definitely be something to look into as a business! Good luck! -
It's no surprise that his solution to the "Healthcare crisis" involves providing for people who bring all sorts of diseases, suck our system's resources dry, and cause massive property damage. Go figure.

I'm pretty sure ya'll know where I stand on the issue. I grew up down there, and I've never had any issues. That doesn't mean there is risk. That just means my cost-benefit analysis has thus far determined there is more benefit to cost in this issue. Caution is key. But that is so in every unit I have hunted. (If you stay away from 36B, I'd be super happy though, because then I can go in and find some monsters with less competition )

What a cute little "jumpy buck". Nice bear!

something fishy in the powder industry
azhuntergirl replied to hawkeye's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
If you're talking about reloading, then it could have something to do with the fact that companies like Hornady, Winchester, Remington, etc. etc. have their own ammunition to produce, so any powder supplies and primers could very well be reaching their factories, but not going any further. -
Lol I totally didn't catch the thing about the mules!!! ROFL.

something fishy in the powder industry
azhuntergirl replied to hawkeye's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Have you checked out http://www.bearmountainsports.com/ ? Hodgdon powder seems to be producing decent quantities. Here is a few articles that may help explain. Run on Ammo/Reloading Supplies Juneau Empire take on shortage Beretta releases June Gun Sales Just a few things I found while browsing. -
Arivaca is indeed a scary area for law enforcement. Still haven't heard of a hunter experiencing any sort of scuffle with the guys you took pictures of. Mules don't usually carry weapons, it's their employers that are the scariest. Never had any problems down there as a hunter/resident.

Humans are getting more evil by the minute. The human condition is rapidly deteriorating. Phoenix has some of the highest kidnapping numbers in the country. I've yet to hear of a hunter being attacked by an illegal of any kind. There is more potential for you to be attacked/hurt/killed in a metropolitan area than there is down south. Not saying it isn't possible. Just saying it's not hugely likely. I'm more afraid walking to my car during the day at ASU than hunting with a gun in the Southern Units. And I've done both! Let me tell you, I've seen more violence on ASU Main campus than I did in the whole of my childhood down South. What really frustrates me is that people who have spent little to no time in those units do google searches, finding pictures to freak themselves and others out. There is ALWAYS danger. No matter where you are. But it's unrealistic to look at those pictures and equate those to a high frequency/potential of violence. Most violence in those areas are contained between those acting illegally, those causing others to act illegally, and the law enforcement involved in the apprehension of those two previous categories. Be realistic. Be cautious. But don't be sensational, or paranoid. It doesn't do anyone any good.

I'm not disputing drug smuggling, and non-farmworker illegals. Didn't I say MOST are farm workers? That is true. Those backpack pictures are from immigrants, not mules. Mules carry those big sacks. You will RARELY run across any sort of trouble. I grew up there. I worked on ranches there. I know people who still live there. There are MASSIVE problems, but violence toward hunters hasn't been a large issue. I didn't say don't be vigilant. In fact, I said the opposite. "Keep your wits about you and your gun on you" is what I believe I said. It's courteous and responsible to not take things out of context.

I'm doing the online class. Maybe that would work for ya!

They do!!! Sportsman's Warehouse in Tucson carries women sizes and you can order on line from Kings in women's sizes. My wife loves them much more than mens cut. cmc YAY!!! Thanks CMC! Next time I go down South to visit family, I'll hit up Sportsman's!

Wow that really sucks!!!!! 3 vehicles stolen or broken into. I have lived in Tucson all my life and have never had a car stolen or broken into. Sorry to hear of your bad luck. Make it four. I forgot about my dad's '86 Jimmy in McCormick Ranch Scottsdale. One was my tried and true Intn'l Scout in the old Home Depot parking lot on Kolb. The others were the white ford I grew up driving across from the home depot, and my mom's truck in Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale. Price you pay for living in a border state, eh?

If only they made it in women's sizes!

Yote's are great fun!! I grew up doing that on weekends, sure makes me miss living in the country. And I'm stoked to see your little girl out there with you! Can't have too many lady hunters out there! As a girl who hunted/hunts with her dad, the some of the best memories of my life are those when my daddy took me hunting with him when I was a little varmint myself. She'll love you more for it.

If I miss a payment on my credit card, fill out a check wrong, or fail to see a red light, I pay the consequences. I'm sad for people that mess up their apps (I have done so in the past, and wanted to smack myself), but human mistake is part of life, and should cause us all to double, triple, quadruple check our apps.

I've had 3 vehicles stolen or broken into, ALL of them in Tucson or Phoenix. Having lived/hunted in a border unit for most of my life, we've NEVER had a vehicle stolen/broken into down there. I know of no one I grew up with/hunted with down there that has EVER had their vehicle stolen/broken into. I'd be more worried about your truck in phoenix than I would down south. I'd recommend you keep all your valuables on your person or hidden. The chances of you having an issue down there is pretty slim.

An interesting question though. just because I grew up/live in arizona doesn't mean I've hunted that whole time. In fact, I haven't, since some years I've been out of state for college, or too young to hunt (that didn't last more than 7 years though...my dad was determined I be the first female hunter in the family. In that case, should I still be given the same benefit as someone like my dad for example, who has been putting in for bighorn sheep without fail for 23 years and just this draw was successful in getting the tag?

Nice bulls!!! Trail cams are genius! Too bad you didn't get more of the lion. From what's visible, looks to be a decent size cougar!
-
I grew up literally a mile from the 30A/B boundary, and hunted in those two units as well as 29. There is always activity down there, but I've never encountered more than a few farm-worker illegals. They've always been nice, and usually just kept going. I know a rancher/lion guide just North of Douglas that says they encounter illegals all the time, but I can't recall them saying anything about being directly subjected to violence. Keep your wits about you and your gun on you. You'll be fine. As a white female, I was never bothered. So as a man in camo with a gun, they'll steer clear. Have a great hunt down there. Beautiful area.

do they meet the 10% cap every year? if the cap isn't a mandatory meet (i'm not sure on the details) then giving az residents an advantage could lower the % within the 10% allowance, therefore greatly affect the revenue from out-of-state tags. 10% is quite a bit when you're talking about thousands of applications.
