What contributes most to harvesting MONSTER BUCKS
June replied to coues7's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
This is a smooth topic and sure to generate interest. I will just relay my honest opinion to the topic asked. It's the trail cam. It wasn't to long ago that you actually had to be in the field to scout your area. You would go up to a water hole and survey the tracks around it. You would normally have to guess how many deer were in there. Most importantly you would have to guess how big that buck was to leave such a big track or even if it was a buck and not some old doe. Then you would spend countless hours glassing and learning the area. But today is a little different. Today we have technology to assist us. We can place a cam here or there and actually see what is coming in. No more guessing or actually scouting. Makes it easier to sit for long hours in one place if you've seen something promising on your cam. I'm still behind the times, I have yet to use a cam. Been thinking about it. But I'm too old school and stubborn in my views on hunting, I guess. I have trouble sitting anywhere for long periods of time anyways. But if I knew a giant was coming in....Well, I might have to get someone to chain me to a tree.. Peace -
That's one Medieval looking Bull. I'd like to have his right side to go into battle with. Congrats and great write up. Thanks

Unit 21- HELP !!!... First time in Unit
June replied to Michael1's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
A few years back on my cousins lope hunt. We saw a very big wt. buck hanging around with some mule deer bucks. I guess that would be around marlow mesa. The only access we were able to get through was a quad track pass a ranch house. Once on top of the mesa's you had good access back to the Mts. I did take the road to the right to Pine mt campground. Wasn't to bad until the very end. Saw some wt. cross the road about 1 mile before the end. The road to the left coming out of Dugas and going to the top was very bumpy and better for a quad. I don't know if it's still there but at the cattle guard along the way. Someone had painted a bull holding a gun on the sign next to the words cattle guard. Thought that was pretty funny. Good luck on your hunt. -
I first want to congratulate you on your success. Got to luv those timber Bulls with their dark antlers and ivory tips. Second, thanks for sharing your story with us. Way cool that your family members were there to enjoy it also. That's a picture perfect looking bull. You can look at any magazine cover and only hope to achieve what you just accomplished. Congrats on your trophy.

Isn't the Thing in unit 32 or close to it? Just follow the signs on the 10. Camp in the parking lot. At least you can get a soft serve after a long days hike. Seriously, the deer are there. Minus 1 from last year. Good luck on your hunt. Oops!! I forgot no access through there anymore. Curmudgen, Did your group have the second Nov. last year. Cause, I ran into a good bunch of hunter's that had a ranger and a pal named Carlos? They were also from Sierra Vista.

Right on!!! Pat Congratulations on your first elk and way to stick with it. Glad your family and friends were there to share in all the excitement. Any elk taken with a bow is a major accomplishment. I would post a pic. Looks like your shoulder didn't give you to much of a problem. Congrats again.

Excellent!! Wow, what a great buck.. You fob guy's are kick'n it. What's next a fobbed Mountain Lion? -
UMM, Diamonds have imperfections and still look nice..I say it looks just fine and has character. I say leave it. Plus your wife wanted to do something special for you.. If you do remove it. A helpful tip on those large and long sticker's is to use real soapy water on the window. The slippery the better. Then place the sticker on it and squeeze all the air bubbles from underneath. When it dries it won't go anywhere.. Just won't have to much character though.. Peace

Here we go again...Let it go hunter72. Peace

I don't even know what I would do if I sat in a blind or treestand. I think I would need to have a barrel of monkey's to past the time though.

Are the Southern Units Really That Dangerous?
June replied to AZMThunter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
SERIOUS YES, I know I tend to joke about hunting down south. But just heard three Game and Fish officers were fired upon. Don't have the whole story, yet. But to answer your question. My experience leads to believe these guy's crossing don't want to draw attention to their business or location. But desperate people will do desperate things. Just be careful out their....Peace -
Nice finds there, Huntingfool Looks like a mixed bag of things. Makes those long walks worth while. Not to sure on your fox, If it had really large ears compared to the rest of his body, Might be a kit? I'm a little leery when I see foxes during the day down south. There is a lot of rabid foxes and skunks for some reason in those areas. An unopened can, The guy probably thought the same thing when he tossed it.. Don't forget to turn that shoe right side up.. We need all the luck...Peace

The Claw: First time test Impressive.
June replied to bobbyo's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Ok, I have seen the light... And from reading the last post. I do owe it to the animals (prairie dogs included)to refine my hunting skills. That way I will be able to take an ethical shot. Why do I need to take a shot over 200 yards anyways? I guess your right. Wouldn't be very sporty. Good bye, claw. But I will still keep in my will. That they unload me from the truck... So I can at least enjoy the campfire...Peace -
Just a heads up. In case, you didn't get out last weekend with the kids or have a special friend that's never fished...Peace

Howdy, I have the Pse drop-away prowler. It is very simple and very cheap considering. Under intense stress the prongs are easy to find with your arrow. I went ahead and glued one of those arrow holding jobbers. Holds my arrow just fine ad has 0 issues when drawing back. Think it costs a few bucks. I also put some foam on the riser. So I don't make any noise if my arrow comes into contact with the riser. Like mention earlier in the post by cooco. It doesn't hurt to quiet the release. I guess when the prongs hit the rest. I think there's more noise from the total function of the bow, myself. Anyways, Cheap, basic, functional, and has helped me kill things... Peace Haven't tried one of those drop-away whisker biscuits yet. But with the current system. They probably work well. If you have nerves of steel and 0 buck fever, when it matters. IMO

AZRANGER, I HEAR YA. I for one did not put in for your home unit 31. But a chance at one of those 165 Dec. tags was still tempting. I've looked up at those mountains and looked down."yep, that'll do it." I wonder how many without an AZ zip code will do the same? I don't get it either. I see it as no alternative hunting. best of luck. Peace Oh. yeah, Wasn't to sure how well discharging a firearm a 1/4 mile from a federal prison would go over.
