    What was Jim Zumbo thinking???

Hard to believe that a guy with that kind of longevity in the outdoor writing business would step in it that bad and be so reckless publicly with his words. I wish no ill will on the guy and hope he can make the best of a bad situation but that will be a hard one to live down and will probably stick to him as long as he's around. If you look at recent history to what happened to Clinton (impeached) for his perpetual lies. Dan Rather lost his job for fabricating false stories. And a whole slew of others for similar mis-steps, they never do completely recover. Although I've never read much of his stuff I have alot more respect for the paid outdoor writer than I do for all the guys that give their stories to Eastmans or Trophy Hunter for a coffee cup or a T-Shirt just so they can see their mug in a magazine. I respect them for their accomplishments and I enjoy looking at their pics etc. but not for literally giving their stories away for free and adding to the publishers bank account. Like 270 said if you work for someone or some company, you represent them in the best possible light or more than likely you're gone. There are many cases where any publicity is good publicity, but in this case where there are so many Hyenas foaming at the mouth to strip us of our 2nd amendment rights, this kind of publicity can't be anything but bad, IMO

Amanda, Just did a little research and the one I am selling has been replaced by a newer model. Bear Basin Outfitters.com still has a few of the older models like the one I have for $449. The newer model sells for $499. There may be better prices out there, not sure.

    Lions

African lions are the only cats in the big cat family that have any kind of social structure and actually like hanging out together, hunt, eat, sleep together etc. within their pride and their territory. Most big cats have a mutual disdane for each other except during their respective breeding seasons. More than likely what some have seen this year is a mother with her young or adolescent cats she has not yet kicked out of the house (so to speak) or siblings that are still hanging out before they split up to fend for themselves. I don't think this is anything new here 15-20 years ago I've seen the same thing a few times with 2-4 Mtn. Lions roaming around the hills of southern AZ. That doesn't mean there are not more lions in AZ now than back in the day 15 years ago, I personally don't know one way or the other. I am saying I think it's pretty common to see a few together now and again.

    Randy Ulmer Hunting Accident?

It all comes down to your own set of personal ethics, you can't legislate ethics. One man's goose is another mans gander and as long as it is legal it comes down to a personal decision. I know and am good friends with a couple of extremely successful chute plane users that many of you know of, I personally hate the things and the guys I know that use them know it. We are still friends in the end but they do know how I feel. In the discussions I've had with them about chute planes - to a man they all say and admit they are a HUGE advantage that can't even be comprehended. When you are looking for a giant buck that may never EVER be found from the ground and you can fly over at low altitude and slow speeds and look into every nook and cranny and scout the amount of country in a few hours, that on the ground would take you a month to look at; and even in that month you wouldn't be able to learn as much as you would from the air. It's all about LOCATING the buck - when you know where he lives you've accomplished 90% of the job. When you can find where he lives in a small fraction of the time and effort it would normally take, then you can see why people use them. It's all a personal decision as long as it's legal, doesn't make it ethical and to me it's clearly cheating, IMO. It takes some of the luster off of what hunting means to me and, IMO, puts hunters in a bad light. Just my opinion.

    Kaibab Success.........

One in the pines and one down in the dirt must be pretty scattered up there. Very nice Allen, that first buck is exceptional - great job as usual by Duwane and his crew. Thanks for sharing.

    Randy Ulmer Hunting Accident?

Wow, I hope that's not true, that would really suk - especially with a Strip tag in his pocket. Hope he's OK.
  11. Bill, this author in his research came up with a conservative estimate of over 13,380 Mozambican refugees were killed and eaten by lions between 1960 - 2005, with a great majority of the fatalities occuring in the 90's. The US committee for refugees estimated that just in the 80's & 90's 1.7 million refugees crossed Kruger and surrounding lands trying to get to South Africa for work and a better life. At any rate its a good book and there is no doubt that alot of refugees got eaten by lions. They have to eat and they do not discriminate between wildebeast and humans, whatever is easiest for them, and people on foot at night when lions hunt the most is one heck of an opportunity. Interesting read.
  12. Those dang lion mountains, they have to eat too.
  13. I just finished a great book called " The Maneaters of Eden" by Roberty Frump from the Lyons Press. I highly reccomend it for a great read. It's about the maneating lions of Kruger Natl. Park and the migrating Mozambicans that have become their dinner. Kind of parallels on some level, the immigration problem that we have here in the U.S. without the lions. Maybe Billl Q. has read this book or knows more about the situation. At any rate it's really interesting stuff, not really realted to this thread other than it is in Africa.

    wish me luck!

After guiding deer hunters here in AZ and throughout the west for 24 years, I can say you must be a little loco to want to do it especially in an area you are unfamiliar with. Hope you deal with pressure well. The best advice I can give you is to be honest with your client no matter what comes up, tell him or her you will bust your butt for him, do your best and let the chips fall where they fall. Have fun and a positive attitude and you'll do fine. Good luck

    Prop 106

Just saw the Cronkite 8 Poll linked from the PBS website. I think the Poll is done by ASU, it lists Prop 105 as 36% for and 34% against. Prop 106 poll results are listed as 49% for and 21% against. Not good news if you are against these. I hope you all vote.

    Prop 106

No offense taken Bow - Usually when someone prefaces their statement with "not to call anyone stupid", someone is about to get called stupid. The same with the preface "No Disrespect" as soon as that preface is uttered - someone is usually about to get disrespected. Back to Prop. 106, personally - "No Disrespect" to Mr. Bruce Babbitt but anything that guy supports, I am automatically against.

    Prop 106

Sniper you admitedly haven't read the proposal yet you call someone who has and is more informed than you "Stupid", that's a little wack IMO. I agree with Diamondback alot of these proposals that sound good on the surface have alot of very fine print that's tough to read and configured and worded to mislead and confuse and most people won't take the time to read and fully understand them. My vote is no, I don't beleive this will be a good deal for the hunting public.

This is whack, I feel bad for the guys with max points that have been applying a whole lifetime and are still waiting. Very depressing
