If that was game and fish, they sure did a great job investigating how the animal died!!!

ya, I am going to stay away from the vanguard. I am looking at the Tikka T3 Lite or a savage.

That was me... hope I didn't cut you off! I was in a hurry to get back to the office. Didn't see any other stickers though. Did you have one?

Good buck! Story???

Love this topic... A few years ago, just after I got married I went up to unit 1 and 27 for an archery deer hunt with my new in-laws. The oldest brother in law was about 18 at the time. He had the reputation of being a bit selfish. It was raining and we were on our way back to camp from spending a few hours tracking a wounded deer. I was up front with my father in law and another guy. We decided to stop suddenly and this other guy and I would jump out and both start running "after a good 4x4 buck" just to see what this brother in law would do. So we jump out and I take off running up this embankment, clawing my way through the mud. My father in law says out the window to my two brothers in law that there was a good buck up the hill and to go around the bend in the road and cut them off. The older boy and the younger boy (about 16) jumped out of the back of the truck and start running down the road. The younger one had already shot and missed on the trip so the older one was already upset about that. The older grabs the younger and pushes him out of the yelling you already had your chance, its my turn... stay here you idiot! We all had a really good laugh from that. Not a selfish bone in that boys body.

Right On! He looks like a happy camper.

Ok. Suppose I take mule deer out of the mix. I have access to an old 243 savage that has been in the family for years. Is a 22-250 a good choice for coues?
-
Snapshot, I can see the NFC going that way but not the AFC. Go Favre!
-
Very cool. Always a good time!

I am curious to know if they end up letting you keep the rack. Keep us in the loop.

I am thinking of getting the weatherby vanguard. I like that it has the interchangeable adult stock and youth stock. What are your opinions on those. Also, would love to hear more about the caliber preferences. Josh

Ya, I think I am leaning towards the 22-250. I don't want my son to learn the whole flinching thing from the get go. I learned with a 243 and it was fine, but I think the 22-250 would just be a fun one to have.

What's the name of the book, and where can one find it? It sounds interesting.

+1. Nice folks and a neat atmosphere. Good food. Try the bison. -
Clay, thanks for the reply. I will look into the NEF. Congrats again on your deer this year. Josh

New to Coues and to CouesWhitetail.com
luvdemcoues replied to ron b's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Welcome Ron! Although I am from Arizona, I didn't start hunting coues until a few years ago. Never thought it possible for me to to be more enamored with coues deer than mule deer, but it has gotten that way. Good luck to you! -
AP News on Bullet Shortages

The article states that this happened when Clinton got into office too??? I am not old enough to remember everything about that, but I don't remember this happening back then... Does anybody else? -
Good times! Congrats. I have killed a cow before, the adrenaline was still there and the experience was still great too! Not to mention, that was one of my more difficult hunts.
-
Hawkeye, you should file a formal complaint with AZGFD about that officer. I don't know if anything would come of it, but at least if they ever got another complaint on that guy they would know something is up. Sorry to hear about your hunt. It's too bad that 30 of goo hunting experience can be thrown away because of some bad experiences on a hunt. Can't say I blame you... it's just too bad, that's all. Hey there's always those Sonora hunts. You know those are pretty regulated, and if you can handle to wait and $$$ for the reservation bull hunts, there are those too. Good luck!

Congratulations! I bet it was just as exciting for dad as it was for son. No better way to strengthen those bonds that tie us.

Desert Bighorns

Nice. It is crazy at how comfortable these things get sometimes around civilization. A buddy of mine in Morenci sends me photos of them hanging around town like its no big deal. Here is the latest he sent me. -
Sounds like a fun hunt! Congrats to all on some fine bulls!

Why does a guy like Tuitama have potentially throw everything away by drunk driving? It potentially cost him a crack at getting into the pros.

Desert Monkeys

The first time I ever saw one was by Roosevelt. I was putting a stalk on a buck and the thing jumped out of a burned tree in the middle of a clearing. Scared the crizzap outta me! I hadn't even heard of those things and later described it to my spotter who told me what it was. Crazy! And congrats to your boy on his first take. -
I love seeing both the deer and elk pushing through the same spot and caught on same trail cam.
