What a great looking buck, Craig. Mind sharing some numbers? He sure looks like he's got to be close to 82".

180+ Coues Sheds --- You better sit down before you look!
Oak replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Shed Hunting
A Coues that size is as rare as Bigfoot, and apparently is just as easy to photograph. Incredible buck... -
I'd maybe check out Stocky's as well. They have a ton of factory and aftermarket 700 stocks. They had a pretty good sale going a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if it is still going. http://www.stockysstocks.com/servlet/StoreFront

It is just a bit short for my Zeiss 10x56. Not sure how the Kaibabs compare.

Nice shots! I think the last one youngbuck posted is a Regal Horned Lizard (Phrynosoma solare). Very cool...I've never seen one before. Attached is a good reference to the horned lizards of North America. Here's a Greater Short-horned from CO. Horned_Lizards.pdf

I've never hunted private before, except Hunter Management Areas that are private land open to the public through the F&G access program. An antelope tag is $286, which includes a $14 app fee. If you want a preference point if unsuccessful, you have to include another $30, which is refunded if you draw. Most areas in the central and western part of the state have ample public land to hunt, but those units typically take at least 1-2 points to draw. You can increase your odds by applying in the "Special" draw, which costs an additional $240. Many units with large amounts of public land can be drawn with 0-1 point in this draw. It seems steep, but I'd rather pay an extra fee to the state and be able to hunt an entire unit, rather than pay a trespass fee in a mostly private unit and be limited to one ranch. If you are serious about giving it a try, you should purchase a preference point right now. The preference point purchase period is open until the end of September. You can log on the WY F&G website and buy one for $30. As someone else said, you can also apply for up to two reduced price doe tags on you buck tag application for $48 each. If there are leftovers, you can purchase an additional 2 for $34 each (no $14 app fee). Here's a handy map of the state, with land ownership and antelope units. It gives you an idea of which units have plenty of public land. http://plicmapcenter.org/pdf/WY_BLM_Antelope_PLIA.pdf Here are the bucks I've killed in WY since 2004. No monsters, but some respectable bucks. 2004 2005 2006 2009 Sorry this got a little off topic.

If you really want to hunt them, go to WY! I'll likely never draw a tag in AZ, and could never wait that long. I try to go to WY every year. My two biggest: CO, 2006, 80"+ WY, 2009, 81" Hope to top him in WY in about a month!

Western Hunting Expo - anyone going?
Oak replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Conservation Group Events
I'm going to try. With a 4-day old in the house, I'm not sure I'll get a hall pass, though. -
Congratulations Zach!

Wow, they don't get any prettier than that...

That's pretty cool. I found a thesis the other day that discusses the genetic structuring of Coues deer in AZ and NM. It also touches a bit on the frequency of hybrids. I'll attach it. May be of interest to some of you. I didn't look to see if Amanda already has it posted, so I apologize if I'm duplicating. LopezThesisPDF.pdf

That's a good looking buck. I'd love to do that some day....
-
Great story and buck. Not a bad last day consolation buck, either.
-
Page 2 of the attached file will show you where you stand with 18 points. I'd stick it out for the best at this point. IndividualBonusPointsTotalsbySpecies.pdf

Heck of a nice looking buck. Congrats!

Very cool...I hadn't seen that before. What's the scoop on the absolutely ridiculous double dropper set of sheds at 9:14? -
Incredible...
