It was a model 88 Winchester in 243,bought at Malco distributors,Phoenix by my dad for 95.00 in 1962.We hunted horseback alot,and he was left handed so both of us could shoot it,since it was a lever action.Still have it.

Great buck,pictures,and story.I especially enjoyed the picture of your son,and the horns.That shot is destined to be a classic!!!!I have been going back to the Midwest the last 12 years, since I retired.I just got home from Iowa,and Missouri last Monday evening.Great stuff!!!

I still have some cousins in the area.I went over and helped them on the archery elk,rifle elk hunts for about a month.My grandparents left that country after a severe drought,and came to peeples valley in a covered wagon in 1920.

Edge,it was interesting to me that you know about the Apache Kid gravesite.My grandpa,and his brother were in the posse that killed him back around the turn of the century.They ranched in the Dusty area,and my dad was born at the old calvary fort,Ojo Caliente,at the Montecello box
