Wonder how Costas would feel if he were being mugged going out to his car ... he'd want a gun then wouldn't he. Or maybe he'd want a bodyguard with a gun. What a D_CK!!!

I have been disappointed so far with the elk hunting this year. Not so much that we are not seeing elk (though mostly seeing more deer than anything else) ... but other things. I don't think I have ever seen so many beer cans/bottles, soda cans and water bottles (mostly beer cans) littering the roads as I've seen in 3C this year. We probably spent two hours of the last couple of days stopping and picking things up. At some point I looked at my Dad and said "SCR_W IT ... we are losing hunting time ... I'll have to figure a time to come back up and do a clean up." My wife has suggested bringing our Church Youth back up to help with the task ... one way or the other my boys, my Dad and I will be back up doing it really soon. The other thing I was disappointed with was the standard "Hunter Etiquette" that I always give and expect to receive in return. Four times my Dad and I took the boys to a high point that we wanted to glass, One that I know is good, and where we surely would have seen elk. All four times, someone had beat us there ... so off we went to another spot. Its only right ... first come first serve. That has always been the rule I live by. This morning, we got there very early. We sat in the truck waiting a bit to start off of the point ... it was still dark and cold, and we thought the boys would feel more comfortable waiting in a warmer spot. Our intentions were pretty clear (at least we thought they were). Just as it starts to get light enough to start out, two vehicles pull off the road past us, and get out and start talking about how they are going to proceed. I turned to my Dad and said "Uh ... did that just happen???" After a couple of minutes of discussion over what to do, I started the truck and we left for another spot (with two disappointed boys in tow). I think Dad was surprised that I didn't get out and raise some he_ _. I have not been known for my patience with rude folks in the past (more like the opposite ... super confrontational) ... but I figured with my boys there, better to just drive away and get some hunting in. Maybe I have mellowed a bit too ... which may be a good thing. What the heck has happened??? Am I expecting too much??? I can deal with tag soup if it comes to that, but littering and BS rude behaviour ... just seems kinda wrong.

Costas is a MORON. Friggin' guy was a Linebacker in the NFL ... he could have killed her with his bare hands and cut his wrists or hung himself. Different method, same end result. I've said it a hundred times ... guns don't kill people ... people WITH ISSUES kill people.

I hear that. Too darned warm. Was hoping for a cold snap last week as I knew that we had a short hunt (work is killing me ... ) and I had not had a chance to do much scouting other than Thanksgiving week (also warm). Had about as much luck hoping for that as I did with the Powerball last week ... NONE. If you are still going out looking, good luck to you. Wished I had more time to spend trying to put the boys on one, but paying the bills had to take precedence.

Driving around barriers ... that is less than weak.

Yeah Coach ... the strip did appear to be cleaner. I hunted 13A twice in 3 years (yeah ... I know ... like winning the lottery), and I don't recall a lot of trash up there. Maybe because there are so few tags, or maybe because the people that hunt there are a little more committed, or maybe because the people that make their living up there are always running the roads up there and patrol it well. Who knows. I know I'll keep doing my part. I know that people on this site will too.

If you reload and want a .338, the .338 Edge (necked up .300 RUM) will give you the same or a little more juice than a Lapua, and I'd wager the brass will cost you a bit less initially (though I understand the Lapua Brass is the Shiznizzle for reloading, and might end up costing you less overall due to more uses). The .338 is a great caliber ... great retained energy and drift resistance, though you gotta be willing to take a beating when you shoot it (unless you like the noise of a brake). Also, at shorter ranges you are gonna waste some tasty morsels. I have had both a 7RM and a .300WM. Both are great. They do about the same thing. Probably easier to get hot rod rounds off the shelf for the .300, but with reloads the .284 bullets have some ballistics advantages. For drift resistance, gotta give it to the .300 though. Guess it depends what you are shooting at. I have a .300 RUM that will someday become an Edge and be my dedicated Elk and larger gun (or ultra long range mulie, sheep, etc.) The 7RM that I have right now is probably going to be my go to mulie rig. I have a .30-06 that is going to become a 6.5 something or other, which I will use for Coues, Speedgoats and the like. What the heck ... get one of everything. All that said ... coues7 has some great words of wisdom there. If you are shooting far ... better practice far and be darned good. Great glass is a MUST. Get your wallet out. -
ttt pictures added. It is really in great condition. Has only 4 boxes through it, was carefully broken in, and has always been cleaned with a one piece rod and Lucas Bore Guide. Shoots as well as anything else I own using Federal Premium Ammo with Barnes Bullets.

If you win the powerball, what is your ultimate hunt destination
sjvcon replied to deercrazy's topic in The Campfire
Don't fret too much over "Mrs. Douglas" ... my bet is she's a PETA supporter anyway ... -
How about someone in the Valley who specializes in the more difficult actions ... CRF Winchesters????? No intention to hijack ... just askin.

I got hit with Cancer, reaching out for Prayer
sjvcon replied to apache12's topic in Prayer Requests
Prayers for you and your family. Glad you got to make the hunt with your boys. Now do yourself a favor and get geared up for that Chemo. Stay strong mentally and spiritually. Your body will have some reactions to Chemo, and that can suck, but use your mind and spirit to power you through it. The tougher you can hang with aggressive treatment, the better that treatment generally works. Friend of my Dad's had a 25 year old son with a VERY aggressive form of Lymphoma. When he was diagnosed, they said it was likely terminal (gave him a single digit percentage chance to last a year), but he toughed out a treatment they didn't think he could handle and he's still going strong 15 years later ... Cancer Free. I'd say Good Luck, but I'd rather say Strong Faith ... that is what will pull you through. If you ever need anything, give a yell. -
Big enough to mount and be really proud.

Wal Mart is generally the cheapest you will find for kids. Off season you can get shirts and pants for around $7-8 when they are clearing it out.

I guess I'll just be a criminal and not register then ... What a bunch of fools ... Chairman Mao, Stalin, Hitler ... they all did the same thing before they subjugated the masses. I guess Obama was right ... he will have "more latitude" after the election ... latitude to declare himself DICTATOR AND CHIEF.

What kind of bear is this? Nutrioso, AZ
sjvcon replied to Norteno's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Cinnamon phased Black Bear??? Looks just like one I saw yesterday afternoon in Torreon on the golf coarse. He went about 3 bills ... maybe a tad more. -
news from the AZ Republic

heck Snapshot ... my wife says worse when I am right next to her ... The Liberal mind doesn't think ... it just speaks and demands to be heard, even when what it says makes no sense. -
I have heard that about the two stage triggers as well. Not sure what I am going to put in mine yet, but that is definitely a consideration. I have a two stage in my varmint rifle ... it is pretty nice.

Okay ... I've caught the Black Rifle Bug. I just bought a SIG 716 Patrol so I'd have something in .308. Now I want to build my own AR15 in .223 for something cheap to shoot and something my boys can shoot without a lot of recoil. Question is this ... I've read a couple of posts by some guy that said if you aren't a qualified gunsmith and haven't taken a armorer's course you should not waste your time or money trying to assemble your own. I was under the impression that they were pretty modular, and that if you bought good mil-spec parts and had decent hands on skills you could build a pretty nice rifle. So which is it??? I haven't done much work on rifles, other than installing some Timney's that needed to be hand fit, and putting together a nice 10/22 from very high end parts (which I don't mind saying is an absolute TACK DRIVER ... obviously it was the parts and not the assembly). So is this something I should tackle, or should I just buy one somewhere? It is less about the money and more about getting good quality parts. I like working on guns, so I don't mind a little challenge. Thoughts?
-
Well that settles it ... I'm building my own.
-
Anyone who has built one had any issues with part fitment ... that was the one thing this guy who posted said ... something like "if you don't know what you are looking for in fitment, you will screw it up".
-
Good guide. Kinda want to do my own upper too ... I'll have to look into how tough that is.

Is that Mark X the same as a Interarms?
