Nitto terra grapplers or Big O bigfoot A/T's
sjvcon replied to hunt4horns's topic in Other Hunting Gear
Well ... if you hadn't already bought, I'da thrown a wrench in your works. I've run Hankook All Terrains in Load Range E on my 2500 Dodge Diesel for years. First set I got 70K out of. Second Set I got 65K out of. Current set I have 35K on and they are wearing like iron. My wife has them on her Yukon in a lighter "E" (still an E though), and she has about 45K on them ... still looking good. Anyone looking ... I'd really look at these. -
You can't go wrong with a 500 Mossberg or an 870 Remington. 1300 Winnie is no slouch either. But I would caution you on the "take the kick" part of a 12 Gauge. You don't want him to develop a flinch. Better to go 20 Gauge if there is any doubt about a 12 Gauge. Better to buy a 20 and sell it later than develop a severe flinch.

Oh yeah ... and now that you got off your butt and signed up ... go over and post about yourself on Family Values. Just a short blurb about who you are and what you do and all that stuff.

East Valley Gunsmith - shotgun won't cycle
sjvcon replied to kidso's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I used to just spray cleaner in the action, spray some lube, clean the barrel and call it good. Now I take it down to parts every time I use it. Pain in the butt, but pumps that won't cycle aren't worth a crap, so its worth a little bit of work. -
Bump for a good guy. Hey Jim ... did you end up rekeying 170 at Building 1 RST yet??? Give me a holler tomorrow. Anyone needs a great Locksmith ... or a gun safe ... Jim is your guy.

HAHAHA....I know the feeling. I hate selling stuff. Always wished I had it back. Then again ... I get buyer's remorse every time I buy something new and feel like I should get my money back out of it. Seriously ... talk to 1Shot on optics. He's selling a bunch of stuff for a neighbor who fell on some hard times so that the guy's wife will benefit from the proceeds. I know he's got some 15x Swaros and a bunch of other stuff. I don't think they are the HD's though, but I'd bet the price will reflect that.

I've done it every which way. I have a laser that works well in my larger rifles. In the smaller ones (that are bolt) I just look down the bore at about 30-40 yards like was discussed prior. Both ways work. One costs money, the other doesn't. Laser might put you a little tighter, but not overly so.

Man ... you're selling my lower???? I'm hurt. 1Shot is a newbie, but I've known him for about 15 years. Great guy. He's got quite a bit in the way of Swaro stuff he's selling.

Yes. 15x's. Fat fingers on a pda.

23N killin time in my tent and can help some1 w Elk tag.
sjvcon replied to Rifle2Bow's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
Bear in 23N opened Friday, so the first call in is this week. -
Hopefully you now have an idea what follow through is all about. When I get into a shooting slump, it's because I forget my follow through, which causes me to pull and shoot inconsistently. For me ... follow through is like tunnel vision. My focus never shifts from that tiny spot on the target I am looking at ... even when the bow falls away from my hand. That kind of focus prevents torqueing the bow. Aim small ... miss small.

Used them a lot. FOV is good ... smaller than low power glass, but good for 15x's I think. For the money its good stuff. Still wished I had Swaros, but I don't lose sleep over it.

Yeah ... they probably did ... just didn't want to advertise it. Obama loves racism ... I'm sure the guy is getting a bump up the ladder.

lower quality 6x20x40 or higher quality 4x14x40?
sjvcon replied to apache12's topic in Long Range Shooting
Always better quality glass vs higher magnification. -
Just for the Fun of it

Jackson might qualify as the biggest RACIST SCUM on the planet. Do us all a favor Reverend ... go drown yourself. -
What a joke.

what would you do? i need some advice!
sjvcon replied to KILLDEER's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
See that ... alls well that ends well. CWT members can play nice. Too bad many "hunters" don't have your attitudes and ethics. -
I was in the market for Swaro's and my AC crapped out. Had about $900 to spend. Looked through Kaibab's figuring to put the rest on credit. Didn't feel right. Got Minox 25x58EDs for around $700. Great decision. Love 'em.

To Biscuit or not to Biscuit? That is the question.
sjvcon replied to Scooter's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
I'm just wondering who said they shot a recurve with a WB? Wasn't me. Saw a guy spoil one with a TM Hunter once...I use a felt shelf. Truth is I thought about a drop away on my new rig. Reputable tuner on AT said if I never had issues with a WB before, why switch.?Good rest. Fool proof. What's not to like? Fact is that if one item has 51 mechanical parts and another has 50, which has the statistically greater chance to failvgiven equal maintenance? -
To Biscuit or not to Biscuit? That is the question.
sjvcon replied to Scooter's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
I just bought a bow from a guy regarded as one of the best "tuners" on Archery Talk. Spent a lot of money on it. When I asked him about rests, he asked what I shoot now and I told him a Whisker Biscuit. His response was "Great rest. Absolutely no downside to sticking with that, especially if you mostly use the bow to hunt with." Basically, the conversation that followed was that there is NO downside. Not enough speed loss to worry about. Not enough tuning issue to worry about ... even with a helical on the fletching, as that is the way the WB's are tested anyway. He is not the only one who has told me this. Yes ... I shoot a compound with LOTS of mechanical parts (I also shoot a recurve with none). But this is one less part to fail, and I never have to worry about an arrow dropping off the rest if my spot and stalk turns into a run full bore, stop quick and shoot. -
McCain SUCKS!!!!!! PERIOD!!!!!

Where are you located?

Had a Mausersmith build a Custom on a JC Higgins Model 50, which uses a FN Mauser Action. Want to put a 20 MOA Base on it, and have asked the folks at Farrell if their FN Base works for this application. In case it does not, I know I can get an undrilled base. Any suggestions for who can accurately drill one of these for installation? I don't trust myself to try it.

Yeah ... no high hopes for that. We spent about an hour combing the area we hunted, but we could not find the exact trails we hiked in or out on. But maybe someone will stumble on it, or maybe someone found it along the road where we parked. Never know.

UP in 23 behind Workman's Creek I lost Monarch Rangefinder today. Our starting point was this location.
