Impeach Obama petition online
sjvcon replied to brian390's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I think most of the politicians in DC need to be shown the door. The career Republicans like McCain, Flake, Boehner, etc. need to be ousted and replaced with people who don't "toe the line" and do "business as usual". We need people who are committed to spend less and reduce the size of Government. -
Anyone have anything they want to trade for a pack??? Factory Ammo? SR 20 Magazines? Etc.? I am open to trades.

Winchester M70 270wsm VS 300wsm: Conflicted and need insight.
sjvcon replied to deserttacoma84's topic in Long Range Shooting
I'll answer what I can 1. Uh ... heck yes. The main reason people build on the Remington and Savage Actions is that they are tubular, and therefore easier to chuck up on a lathe. There are less 'smiths who take the time and money to make a jig for the Winchester, but it is a heck of an action. Some argue that the flat bottom is actually better to bed ... I won't comment on that one way or the other. Personally, I love the CRF Actions ... grew up on Mausers, and the M70 was the next step in that line. 2. Between the .270 and the .308, I'd lean toward the later. But if you are doing a custom build, you could repipe it for 7mm, which is a heck of a round for BC. 3. That is just a matter of retained energy ... check out the charts. That is affected by the bullet used (grains, BC, etc.) 4. A new stock or pillar bedding is always a good start. Shortening the barrel to 20" will affect the velocity (negatively) and thus the range. Loss is variable, but on the order of 50 fps per inch I think is what I have heard. Might be wrong on that. Bottom line is that the longer the barrel (to a point) the more complete powder burn you get ... so the more energy is imparted on the bullet. 5. Probably less these days than in the past, but they had their following. Again ... a lot of it is due to more 'smiths focusing on the tubular actions due to the ease of working on them. 6. IMHO you can do that if you want an inferior rifle . I personally love Winchesters ... specifically the CRF types that were called Classic and are now the ones produced by FN. Again ... all just my opinion. Certainly there is more aftermarket support for the Remy and it's clones ... but why be like all the other guys/gals??? -
Payson. It's not even close to a debate. Seen a lot of brakes smoked in SRC.

My boys started with a 7-08 at 10. It is a great caliber that can be loaded for deer or elk. I have one if you are interested in letting him squeeze off some rounds. I think I have a couple of boxes of 120 grain (though they may be 140.....my memory isn't what it used to be). .243 is good for deer ... but I think it is light for elk (similar to a .223 for deer ... it'll do the job with the right shot, but will the shot be right???). Good on you for stepping up. Hope the old man gets a bleeding ulcer and has a rotten year. What a D _ CK.

All I know is that I get HOSED on Elk every year!!!! It's broken.

Chuck Norris sold his soul to the devil for his rugged good looks and unparalleled martial arts ability. Shortly after the transaction was finalized, Chuck roundhouse-kicked the devil in the face and took his soul back. The devil, who appreciates irony, couldn't stay mad and admitted he should have seen it coming. They now play poker every second Wednesday of the month.

Chuck Norris doesn't breathe ... he holds air hostage.

My only concern with this tent is the canvas. I'm in an apartment and don't have anywhere to set it up should I need to dry it out once I get home. Set it up in your apartment. These are easy to set up and well worth the money. I can set mine up by myself in under 10 minutes at a relaxed pace ... 5 minutes if I am pressed. Got mine for $300 or so from Cabelas Bargain Cave. Was a steal at that price.

1 word for you AZ Phoenix Locals .... TIMNEY. Customer service is awesome, and they build a really decent trigger for the $$. Don't waste your time sending it back to Remington ... at least I wouldn't do it.

Note to self ... Venison Roast that is brined, injected with Apple Juice, rubbed with Sweet Bourbon Rub, peppered, basted with apple cider vinegar/olive oil and bbq sauce/yellow mustard mix, then smoked and wrapped with bacon is DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Smoked it at 300 for an hour, wrapped it and cooked in a puddle of juice for about an hour, then wrapped with bacon and went to 145-150 degrees. It was like butter!!!!! Now I am getting a beer and relaxing.

You will see better accuracy out of a non-belted case (the 7mm is belted), or so they say. If you want a hot rod, you will pay for it with less longevity. The 6.5/284 is nice ... like Nut said, less barrel life than a .284. I like the Ackley stuff if you are going to hand load. You get a little more juice than the standard round, but not too much more powder getting there. As to actions, you can certainly look into Stiller, Surgeon, Badger, McMillan, and some others. All based on the Remington, but with all the tweaks already done (true/square/lapped/M16 Extractor/etc.). You will pay for them though ..........
