I made that exact point in another topic thread that deals with the same issue. Other predators, despite heavy hunting of them, have flourished, and are, in fact, problematic in some areas despite the hunting. The wolf was not suited for survival here ... plain and simple. And like Lark pointed out, they didn't even exist where they are being released. There is an agenda, and it is insidious at its core.

On Pistols, you will get holster wear if you pull them a lot. Very few finishes will not have that issue (hard chrome/stainless/etc.). Even Robar, from what I hear is subject to that (though I could be mistaken). But for the most part, Cerakote seems pretty durable to standard use.

My pasture in Gilbert looks like I irrigated and overdid it ... amazing. I have been up since the storm rolled in at 1AM ... pretty heavy all night. If we'd have irrigated on our Tuesday schedule instead of asking to pass I'd have water in my doors right now.

Depending on the terrain, I'd hunt with a .30-30 anyday. Love lever rifles with open sites.

It's funny ... I've bore sighted quite a few rifles, though I am no expert. I have yet to encounter one that didn't hit the paper at 50 on the one's I've done ... even my muzzle loader. That said, I've experienced the same thing with some of the bore sighting from other big boxes ... won't hit the paper past 25 or so. It's like they don't take their time or something. It really isn't that hard. I guess you could always get a stinker in the bunch ... but I've seen more than one from the big boxes.

At first I was pretty jacked on the idea of building one. The more I read, the more I think I am better off with a 6.5 that eats less powder. I'll change my mind again tomorrow I am sure.

The people pushing the wolf agenda are just like the tree huggers that prevent selective deforestation. They claim to be positively affecting the balance of nature, when actually they are severely negatively impacting it. It's all a bunch of "Greenie" college kids with all book smarts and no real world experience. Reminds me of when Janet "Aunt Bee" Napalitano went against getting rid of the Lions in Sabino who were stalking people. Took the word of a bunch of no nothing "educated" eggheads instead of listening to real world Zoological experts in the species who said the cats wouldn't stop the behavior once started. Typical of that side of the aisle (which I think I can say since this is actually about something that affects hunting). Bottom line is that Wolves were not fit to survive in AZ. The Coyotes did. The Black Bear did. The Mountain Lion did. The Grizz didn't. The Wolves didn't. It's just the way of it. Had they been fit to survive, they would have. Period. No matter the hunting ... all those species have been hunted hard. Arizona has been just fine without the two that didn't make it ... and the ones that did are actually having too much success despite hunting them hard still. Just my opinion. Any lurkers who don't like it can feel free to throw darts ... doesn't affect me any.

Yep ... real close to the venerable .41, but I'd hesitate to use it on anything but smaller game ... coyotes, javelina, etc. Hard to get an accurate shot at any distance with such a short barrel.

I'll put $5 on the cricket on the left....unless this falls under the same cruelty to animals that dog and cock fighting do, in which case I retract my bet and head for the hills. Yeah ... more chatter when we were talking about events of the world that either directly or indirectly affect hunting, but in any case are part of who we are.

Not sure I am in the Grizzly camp, but I think that I am 100% behind what Snap says on this. Hybrids aren't wolves. The program is a HUGE failure in terms of dollars spent per "DOG" released into the wild. This is about decreasing hunt opportunities more than anything, at least in my opinion.

Take off barrel would be the way to go if you want it "original". If not, there are lots of ways to go. I wonder if the pitting could be dealt with with a light media blast and then some kind of a "bondo" type treatment with Dexcon Steel Putty or similar. A good gunsmith would probably know, and even if no one has tried it, it could be worth a try while looking for the take off barrel.

Great story. Glad to see someone getting out this year and having fun with a successful hunt ... note success does not mean tagging out, it means getting out with nature and having some therapy with God. I am looking forward to that when my back heals up.

We have a half blue / half border collie. That ought to be a SMART dog ... and he is smart, but not near as smart as our Aussie. He is actually calmer than our Aussie (who is nearly 10 and still hyper) though.
