Grizzlies found to be actively stalking hunters
sjvcon replied to BeardownAZ's topic in The Campfire
Never hunt alone in Grizzly Country ... and everyone carry a .454 Alaskan for quick dispatch ..... -
Last roast I did was injected with apple juice and smoked for an hour ... then covered for most of the rest of the cooking with some apple juice in the pan. Kept it really moist ... and man was it ever tender!!!!

That is friggin brilliant!!!!!!!!!!

Performance of solid copper ammo or lack of
sjvcon replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I used the TTSX on the buck in my photo. Didn't walk one step. Hit the ground immediately. Bullet went in though the front shoulder quartering toward and buried in the ribs. Bullet mass was nearly 100%, and mushroomed well ... Guess it depends on the hit. -
Would not surprise me if they started planting already. Rules don't apply to the other side of the aisle ... just ask the outgoing DOJ head.

Bummer. Did you have any identification in it? Hopefully someone will be responsible and turn it in.

Most of what you read will tell you they get in the sun in the AM and they get in the shade after morning. In the evening they move toward the sun again, but can really be in either. I kind of follow the logic, but I glass it all ... never know where one will pop up. I also tend to glass a lot of the fringe feed areas and areas I know they come from to get to the feed areas and water.

Well ... since I could not go (due to Surgery), my son and I donated our Tags though a worthy charitable organization (thanks to Edge for the tip). Don't know who ended up with our tags, and never will, but good luck to those folks that got them. Hopes and prayers for some monster Mulie Bucks in their very near future. Good luck to the rest of you headed there as well. I'll be there in spirit rooting you on.

Yeah ... my dad said yesterday winds were around 50mph in some areas up top.

Going in on the west side of the unit has gotten more and more restricted. We used to hunt the unit out of Mammoth, but that is a lot more difficult now. The one rancher (can't remember the name) was selling access passes the last time that we went, and that was okay, but the locked gates were a pain. Used to be a lot of mines up in the higher elevations there ... active small claims with guys working them. Not sure if that is still the case or not, as it has been about 7 years or so ... but back then you wanted to steer clear of those. Not sure how the east side is. Lots of people used to talk about going in that way and having success. Used to be some great bucks in there, and I am sure there still are. I got on a Coues buck in there several years back that likely scored over 100" ... just couldn't close the gap enough to take a good bow shot at him. Good luck.

Thanks Snap.

.280 AI. Loaded right it is fast, has the great ballistics you can get in .284, and is non-belted. Kind of a 7 Mag Lite. -
Some people should stay home.....

heck....I had guys shoot toward me when I was in a Blaze Orange Vest and Hat! Some angry words were exchanged that day.

This forum sure is quiet these days.

How the heck could the NRA back a guy who tried to close a gun range? That is ridiculous. If they don't want the other candidate, endorse "None of the Above". -
Doolen was right ... nice Coues buck!!! The mulie is a great one too.

Oh...I know why. Sure changed the activity level though....
