If they've started to gobble heavy, they'll respond to just about any sound, even a car door closing. You can use owl and crow calls, they're a little more natural sound, evenings are a good time, if you can locate and roost them, you'll have your starting point for the next morning.

All good information above, key is just to get out and shoot as much as possible. Personally, I'm now using Triple 777 powder, I've used pyrodex and Jim Shockey's stuff in the past as well, but IMO, 777 is the cleanest shooting powder out there. As red rabbit pointed out, you'll be doing a lot of cleaning, not only at the end of the day but in between shots as well. I like butch's bore cleaner solution/swabs when I'm at the range, regular hot soap and water when you clean at the end of the day, followed by a good lub of butches bore butter or t/c bore butter. The t/c platform is a very good, you'll really enjoy it. You're also going to want to get your possibilities bag set up, I'll use that at the range when I'm practicing to get in the routine of working with the gadget's and supplies I'll have when hunting. I'll set up 3-4 speed loaders and use those from shot to shot, then reload them and continue. You're going to have a great time, and you have a lot of time before your hunt, get out to the range and enjoy!

Jeep, I'm in the same boat. I'm planning on putting in for NM elk and deer with my brother and nephew and some friends, it's a little expensive, but I sure do enjoy the hunt and commadery regardless of the outcome. The application dead line is April 8th if I remember correctly. I'm also planning to head over to NM for Turkey as well, it's still over the counter. Other then that, I'll be doing a lot of fishing as well, still get to get out, can have some fun with the trail cams, and just enjoy nature. And there's always the deer draw this summer. Best of luck.

Nice set of videos, I need to get mine back out! Karl

Hawkeye, How high did you have it mounted? might want to move it higher, also, it's best to have it pointing north/south, with north being the best, as the sunrise/sunset can trigger an event. Also, it's best to clear brush, twigs, tall grass, etc., that is close to it, if the wind moves these in front of it, it will trigger. Remember, these are motion detectors, try to set them so you have a long lane of view to trigger the camera. You might want to post one of your video's, suggestions can be made based on what the video shows. Karl

I've fished it before, not lately though, it's kind of hit or miss, you can walk in at the parking lot/pic nic called Phon D Sutton (not sure if I spelled it correctly), which is below the dam. Depending on when the last stocking was, typical wet flys work good, like pheasant tails, az peacock lady, etc., or try out a few streamers. Karl

As cramerhunts indicated, best thing to do is to keep the camera pointed north/south, and perferably north. The sunrise/set (east/west) and cause triggers with lots of white out. Aslo to Amanda's point, try to locate the camera where it can cover 40-60 feet of area, picture a cone out from you camera. Also while you have it in test mode, walk out in front of it to see if you're able to trigger it, you may find that you need to raise or lower the camera to ensure it'll trigger when you want it, you may also need to pistion the camera so the top is pointing down or the bottom pointing up, use a stick or something to get the angle. Best thing is just to get out and use it, you'll find out what works or not. If you're not using a bear box and python cable, I'd strongly recommend using one, I've had several cameras messed with, and I feel the only reason I still have them is because of a little bit of security. Now that you have 1, you're going to want more, it's very addictive! Good luck going forward. Karl

My brother and I drew out for a December off range hunt, really looking forward to it.

Seems pretty clear that they could apply this very broadly, makes you wonder how the bullet allowing animals to protect cattle got in there, but nothing around hounds or bird dogs!

I have the encore prohunter .50 cal muzzleloader. Seems to be a very good platform for a modern muzzleloader, very accurate, easy breakdown, but was pretty expensive. I've wanted to get a couple other barrels for it, but haven't done so yet. Karl

Bear Carver, from what I've read/remember, if you state has a similar setup, say like New Mexico and their OHV sticker, then you don't need to worry abour your vehicle as long as it has a current sticker from your state. And I believe there was a time limit as to how long your could be in AZ with out getting into issues, but I honestly don't know how they would track that. There is a lot of informaion regarding this on the AZ Game and Fish web site, and I believe this is covered under their FAQ section. Hope this helps. Karl

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but there was a post a while back (maybe a week or more) about a hunt up around kingman, the title of the post was "1st Annual Calling for a Cause Hunt", it had contact information in it, and I believe it's this weekend.

Couesforlife, I can relate to your experience at Ben Avery, just seems to depend on whose working as to how you're treated. The process is the same at the Joe Foss complex, but much more relaxed, different set of people operating the lines. I think you'll find it's a much better experience. Some else asked if they'd be extending it beyond 200yrds, I don't believe there is any immediate plans, the range used to go out to 650 yards, no sure why then went with a shorter range, probably had to do with cost.

I had the same experience as TJ, took me about 5 minutes and found a section on there that said to mount in the upper left corner and disregard the wording about putting it in the right hand corner. Take a look at it again, you should be able to find the section that has it.

AZMEATHUNTER, if they're still available I'd be interested in both of them, I'll see if I can figure out how to send you a PM with contact informtion. Karl (Rio)

Thanks for the info Red Rabbit, just ordered one, these are nice packs.

bchoitz, I completely agree with you. Very nice complex, smaller crowds, and just all around a much more enjoyable experience. I was out there today as well, we may have been next to each other, by chance were you the one using a set of vortex bino's on a tripod? I was sighting in a 22-250 next you if you were.

I have the HCO Scoutguard which is basically the same thing. I echo all of the comments mentioned so far, the size is great and makes it much easier to conceal. I'm not sold on the remote though, it's very easy to use, but I'd like to be able to change/modify the settings through buttons/toggle switches. I'm prone to forgetting items when I head out in the field from time to time... If I could make suggestions for enhancements, I have 2 of them. I'd like to see is a longer time frame before the camera goes active. I always use a bear box and python cable, so after I've turned on the camera, it's takes a few minutes to get everything locked up and adjusted, so the first several pictures are of me or the camera moving. I could compensate for this by having a longer delay between picture burst, but I prefer little to no delay between pictures bursts, just my preference. The other enhancement would be a no flash IR system, the red glow has spooked a couple of deer at night. But overall, I think they have set the bar high for other companies when it comes to size, settings, and options (Pictures and video).

Rio posted a topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Spent this past weekend out looking for mule deer, after spotting a doe and 2 fawns, ran into this guy! I didn't see anything else the entire weekend, but seeing this ram was a special treat, I'll give the deer another shot next weekend. -
Great buck, congratulations!
