Hard to tell on the wood, I'd just go down to one the local stores that sells wood for wood working, like Woodworkers Supply if you have one, find a type of wood you like and go from there. I beleive some carry wood from Afirica as well. On the copper, to get the dimple affect, you could use a shock filled with BB's, small pebbles, etc., and slap the copper with sock. To get the antique look, or oxidized, a solution of water and muratic acid sprayed on and left over night will give you the look, use less if you don't want too much green. If you do a search on google for "antique copper" you'll find all sorts of recipes.

Great Buck!!! On NM hunts, if he hunted the 2009 January archery hunt, that was part of the 2008 draw, and I believe is part of the 2008 season, as NM's license season is March to March, not on the calendar year. So if he drew out again for 2009, that should be considered a new year. I'll email a warden I know and ask for clarification. -
I have kind of got out of that habit, but not completely. I stick with the same hat from hunt to hunt as long as I'm successful, if not, the hat gets changed. But other then that, not much in the way of superstitions.

Scottyboy, I was out at the range as well today, tried the BH209 powder, and was using 250gr Barnes tmz. The accurracy was great at 100 yards, both with the Barnes as well as the T/C shockwave same size bullet. What I'm experiencing though is that the Barnes are almost impossible to get in after the first shot. Almost seems like a crud ring is being formed towards the tip of the barrel. When I switched to the T/C, they went in much smoother, seemed to get past the crud ring. I'm going to try the Barnes T-EZ next week. Are you experiencing anything similar with starting the Barnes bullets? Oh ya, very nice group there. Thanks, Karl

Jim, I'd be tempted to set up another camera pointing at the camera in a new location to get a picture of the scum bag and/or find some time to hang out around the camera until they showed up!

Great, now if I can locate some BH209 I'll give it try. On the second shot, if you're using speed loaders I've found it doesn't make much difference, pour vs dump, or dump vs pour, I'm always in a hurry to reload and the speed loaders really make a difference.

I drew a muzzle loader mule deer hunt this year, and was going to head out to the range to sight in a new scope. I had been using 110grs of Triple 7, with 250gr T/C shockwave, but I'm now really curious about the Blackhorn 209 powder. Scottyboy were you able to work up a load that work for you? I have the T/C prohunter encore like TAM, so was thinking of trying his load, but maybe going with 250gr bullet instead. Karl

Kind of depends on what you're looking for, like trigger speed, flash vs no flash, and how much you want to spend. Here's a couple of links that can help you out. The first one is a shoot out between various cameras: http://www.trailcampro.com/2008trailcamerashootout.aspx This next one has a ton of information about all sorts of cameras, good information: http://www.chasingame.com/ I have reconyx's, they are great, very fast trigger speeds and reach out there really far, but they are really expensive and with all the camera's being stolen I'm not going to buy any more of them. I also have 2 HCO Scoutguards, and just recently ordered a couple of the DLC Covert 2 from this site. The HCO and DLC are essentially the same, their trigger speed is ok but a lot slower then the reonyx, but they are incredibly small and very easy to conceal. They also have the ability to take pics or video. Good luck, once you start you won't want to stop.

Congratulations, way to go!

+2 on colemans. Especially the extreme or 7 day coolers, I forget what they're called. But if you keep them in the shade and don't open them up too much, they'll keep ice for 5-7 days, best cooler I've ever used.

Drew 1168, muzzleloader mule deer, not my first choice but at least I'll be hunting.

Nice job on the boxes! But I have to agree with gamehauler and nextolast, if they want it they'll get. With all the thefts posted here lately, I strongly suspect that there are folks out with bolt cutters in their back packs looking/waiting for the opportunity to take what's not theirs. It'll provide you a sense of security for most scenarios, and keep most from taking it, I'd do what I can to keep it out of the common areas.

We always try to have a ribeye steak at least one night, with either lawry season salt or montreal steak seasoning. Here lately we've been doing a lot of fajita's, meat marinated in just about what ever you want, or get the pre marinated from Walmart, and any veggies you want to add with fresh made tortilla's. If we have any left over meat from the previous year, we'll typically make a batch of venison stew, with turnips, potatoes, celery, carrots, onions, meat wrapped in bacon or if no bacon add some pork salt, flavored with salt, pepper, and any other spices you like. Finish off with a little sour cream to think'en up the juices. I'm getting hungry now!

As I understand or have heard, since you were not served the notice/citation in person, it's not valid. They trying to guilt people into just paying the fine, but unless you are actually served it's not suppose to be valide. That's why if after you the notice you don't pay or show up in court, they send out folks to serve you, as long as you don't answer your door or talk to the person and let them serve you the citation, I've been told you are not liable for the fine. At least that's what I've been told, I have not received one of these yet so I have not tried it.

Catclaw, what type of tripod and head are you using with the CLAW?
-
Definitely a gopher snake, more commonly called a bull snake, as TLH indicated, they are great snakes to have around, we had them as pets growing up.

Red Rabbit, Last night I was looking at the info Zeiss had for their scopes with factory loads and the rapid z reticle they have. It'll be interesting to see if it matches up, it's pretty neat, I'll have to take a look at the links you posted as well.

Looks great, mind sharing how you did it, type of sponges, paint, etc...

When possible, I try to set them up about 6ft off the ground angled down slightly to try and get critters up close as well as a way's out. I try to point my cameras north to north east as much as possible to avoid sunrise/sunset triggers. I like lots of pictures, so I typically go with no delay between picture burst, and I typically set them up for 3 picture burst at a time. I also try to set the camera up in a way that most of the aninals will be caught coming to the camera or going away vs having the camere set up where the animals will walk left to right in front of the camera, this is particularly important for slow trigger speeds, say 1 second or longer, or with cameras that take more then a second between pictures. A bit of more information, I will not place a camera unless I can use a bear box and a python cable for security. This will deter most folks from trying to run off with them, but as has been said many times, if they want it they'll take it. I'm also in the process of camo painting my bear boxes so that they blend into the surroundings a little better.

muskeg, that's the version I remember, although I like GameHaulers better.

Jamaro, no problems with the 08 turbo's, but there were issues with the 04 turbos. There was a problem with the 08 models throwing flames out of the exhaust, this was due to the particulate filter system that they now have on them, it was literally throwing a 3-4 foot flame on some trucks. This was corrected with the addition of a dual tip exhaust with flame retarding vents on it.

I have the '08 6.4l, if you're looking for mpg around town, I wouldn't go with this route, but I'd also have to say that the 6.0l is or won't be much better. Having said that though, the 6.4l will tow just about anything you want. If you're looking for good mpg while driving with out a load, the duramax is probably the best on the market right now, I have friends that say they're getting any where from 18-22 mpg. But, once you add a load to both, you're not going to see too much difference in my mind. If you're hauling a 5th wheel or bumper pull trailer, 6-10k lbs, they all going to get around 10-12 mpg pulling at around 65 mph on the highway. At least that's my experience.

My Dad had similar experience when he was a young'un, but there was only 1 bullet hole in it. Since he saw that his shot downed the buck, the argument went something like "if you can find another bullet wound I'll let you have it". I think you were very generous in letting her have it, if it were me, I would not have felt like the kill was mine if you had seen that your shot dropped the buck and the only other wound was a grazing shot.

Seems like the link is no longer available, must have been a great deal!!

Very Nice, hope to have the opportunity at a trip and success like that one day.
