Crossing the San Carlos a bow and a handgun??? Confusing
Rio replied to jamaro's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Jamaro, Here's a recent link that might help you with just the passing through, not sure if anything changes if you have a bow or handgun with you. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...4&hl=carlos -
The Parker is a very classic gun, and the trojan, depending on the actual model and condition could be worth a lot of money, did a quick google search and the price range was any where from $1500-$6k. They were manufactured from the late 1880s to around world war II, remington bought Parker but discontinued production in the 1940's because they were not profitable. Parker and LC Smith were the American side by side's to have during their day, my great grandfather would only buy LC Smith or Browning shoot guns. If it's in good condition, it would be a great addition to anyones gun library.

Congratulations, nice muzzy buck!

RR, good point, had forgotten about the NR caps. I'll ask a couple of wardens if they have any info on the increase.

It's interesting and frustrating to see how NMGF makes changes from year to year, seems to be a knee jerk reaction each year. As an exmaple, the rule they had last year about applying for Q/HD hunts, if you were successful in drawing a tag in one of those units this year, you were supposed to have not been able to apply for a Q/HD hunt this year (for that species). The feeling was that this was driven by non-residents, thinking they would have a better chance on the draw. There was such a strong/negative reaction to this, that they pulled that rule as of the 2010 year. I think the rule was stupid, and should have been pulled, but in my mind they should have let it run a 2 year cycle. RR, I can only imagine on the Res vs Non-Res fee difference that there was a strong Res contigency that put up an arguement that Non-Res were over applying, and this might help reduce the blanket applying for all hunts. Also tied to that is probably an argument over land owner tags taking away from Resisdents. The fee's upfront for everything will probably be the biggest impact on that, and I think it's a good change.

For uploading and downloading of waypoint and tracks, it should work fine, I do it all the time with my garmin 60csx. I actually prefer it over the garmin software most of the time. The Nat Geo software should be able to recognize your gps unit. If you truely need to know before going that route, I'm sure Nat Geo has a customer support center you could ask or send a question to.

Was out today chasing quail and scouting for deer for the upcoming deer archery hunt and found a gun in it's case in Unit 39. If you lost it, you can contact the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, they picked it up a few minutes ago.

Sitka Flash 32 day pack
Rio replied to TREESTANDMAN's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Mike, I liked the Sitka as well, but not for the price. I ended up going with the Eberlestock X2 and like it alot, plenty of room for a day pack, areas to store tripod and spotting scope, 2 pockets for camelback water systems, and if you want you can get the gun holder to add to it. It was about $100 less then the Sitka, and had similar adjustments on it as well. It's a little heavier then the Sitka, but was a better bargin in my mind. Karl -
Until you get a grood group, I would stop using pellots and use loose powder. The reason being is that each gun is different, and you'll need to see what load works with the bullets you're using in the gun you have. As an example, I just recently got my T/C encore shooting consistently at 100 yards, 1 inch groups, 2-3 inches at 200 yards. In order to do this though, I had to drop my powder load from 100 grains to 95 grains, prior to doing that, my groups were 3-4 inches best case. I clean after 5 shots as a general rule. The load I worked up was Blackhorn 209 powder, 95 grains, and 250 grain Barns T-EZ, using federal 209 shotgun primers. I would strongly encourage you to go to loose powder, it'll take some time, but start from around 90 grains and progress up in 5 grain increments. Good Luck, you have a good gun, and it will shoot very accurrate, just need to spend the time with it. Karl

Coues'n'sheep, Posted this over on TAH as well, this might help. Try this link: http://cowgirlscountry.blogspot.com/200 ... it_19.html Karl -
Great pics, thanks for sharing. I don't think too many folks can say they have got a badger on a trail cam!

Great mule deer guys, way to go, the Burro's are a very special place.

Went back to a travel trailer and don't have a need for the 5th wheel hitch any more. It's a Pullrite Superglide 14k hitch, rails, mounting brackets for a 2008 F250, and the capture plate. The hitch plus the rails/mounting brackets/capture plate run any where from $1300-$1500 from what I could find online, I'm selling all for $800. The hitch is 2 years old, used 4-6 times per year, I'll also throw in a can of slip plate, used for coating the rails with a layer of graphite. PM me if interested. Karl

White Mountain Apache Tribe Elk Hunt
Rio replied to Coueser's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Up around Holly lake and Horse Shoe Cienga there have always been a lot of Elk in the Sept/Oct time frame. Holly is at about 9000 ft, so by Nov. it may be a little colder and full of snow, and the road up may even be closed. Good luck. -
Nice mount Arthur, looks great!

Congrats on the new job Mike, glad to hear!

I used the hunt maps for hunt in NM last year, since then I purchased the national geographic software. I feel that the Nat. Geo software comibined with the garmin topo has provided me just as much as the Huntmap. The nat geo software has a ton of info on it, more water then the garmin topo as well as the Huntmap. The only advantage that the Huntmap can provide from time to time is private property, but if you have the BLM maps you'll have that. What I've found very useful, is to the make way points on the nat geo software, load those to my gps, and then I'll print off sections of the Nat geo that I'm interested in. I'll put those in a ziplock bag, and make them up with notes and commentary on certain areas.

Sorry to hear that Mike, I sent you a PM with some information.

I'd be interested as well.
