Frustrated Archery Elk Hunter Any advice, words of wisdom
elkaholic replied to RoughCut's topic in Elk Hunting
Sorry you lost a great bull!! Always tough to lose a bull - if you will look at the anatomy of the elk there is actually a huge - none vital zone just behind the shoulder 3/4 way up. these animals are "super" tough - clippin this or nippin that doesn't get the job done! That's not to say this bull didn't die eventually. i've seen shots that I thought - Noway that hit anythin vital - i was wrong obviously - elk was dead I wrote about the impossible shot - a few yrs back- long story short - guy shot the elk archery said he made a great 50 yrd shot- we found elk - It was way after dark - we loaded it up - hauled it to camp- I couldn't see a wound hole !!?? we found the braodhead while butchering - it was embeded in the front brisket - it never penetrated the body cavity- he had cut the main artery in the neck - the bull never went 50 yrds . How is this possible - i can't explain it but it happened . Thats Hunting! -

great bull --especially for a first- as far as weight a mature bulls will average 700- 800 on the hoof - with great habitat upwards to 900--- we had a very good rain just pior to huntign so he probably was in and around the 800 - very nice bull hangin weight is usually about .60 of live weight

OBUMMERS PLANS FOR OUR MIITARY AND VETERANS GOP COULD EXPLOIT TO VICTORY Exclusive: Joseph Farah identifies BHO policy proposal GOP could exploit to victory There’s an issue out there that can ensure Barack Obama is defeated in 2012. It’s not Obamacare It’s not his religious views. It’s not his commitment to socialist and anti-American causes. It’s not even the birth certificate and his eligibility issues. I believe the issue that will take Obama down if Republicans make it an issue is his administration’s proposed budget cuts for active-duty military personnel and military retirees – but not civilian defense workers. Do you get the picture? Obama has tipped his hand. He’s showing the entire country what he thinks about our military service people – the people who risk their lives for their country are worth less than civilian defense workers who push papers around in Washington. Chances are you don’t know much about this story. There’s a good reason for that. The Big Media don’t want you to know, because they recognize the political radioactivity it represents. This is the Death Star for Obama’s re-election campaign. If Americans know about this – Republicans, Democrats and independents all oppose him. Here are the details of the story broken by the intrepid Bill Gertz: “The Obama administration’s proposed defense budget calls for military families and retirees to pay sharply more for their health care, while leaving unionized civilian defense worker’ benefits untouched.” “Several congressional aides suggested the move is designed to increase the enrollment in Obamacare’s state-run insurance exchanges.” “The disparity in treatment between civilians and uniformed personnel is causing a backlash within the military that could undermine recruitment and retention.” “Significantly, the plan calls for increases between 30 percent to 79 percent in Tricare annual premiums for the first year. After that, the plan will impose five-year increases ranging from 94 percent to 345 percent – more than three times current levels.” Think about this – and imagine how you would campaign against Obama on just this one issue. U.S. military service people don’t get the equipment they need to do their jobs. They don’t have the manpower they need to complete their missions. Their families scrimp and sacrifice financially so they can serve their country. They risk their lives and give their lives for their country. But, according to the Obama administration, unionized civilian defense workers, sitting behind their comfortable desks in Washington, deserve better treatment than our heroes serving overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan and elsewhere. It’s almost unbelievable that Obama could serve up a slow-pitch softball like this for Republicans to knock out of the park. It’s even more unbelievable that none of them has. Which is THE REASON FOR THIS this column. Obama needs to pay for this. Whether or not he backs off, whether or not Congress throws his budget out the window, whether or not these cuts are ever enacted, Obama needs to pay a big political price for showing his cards. Republicans need to remind Americans every day that Obama is the guy who wants to cut medical care for soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen – all while preserving the goodies for Washington bureaucrats. Men and women who put their lives on the line, who risked their health and well-being, are treated like second-class citizens in Obama World. He signaled his absolute contempt for the U.S. military – not just the institution of the military, but the active-duty grunts on the front lines. This is an easy one for the American people to understand. So where are the Republicans? Where are the talk-show hosts? Where is the blogosphere chatter? Obama has stepped in something very smelly here. Why aren’t more Obama critics making hay of it? Can you understand it? Ben H. Willingham Association of Naval Aviation Bald Eagle Squadron P. O. over the years I've been told more than once that I couldn't camp in a spot or hunt in an area . Sad when a few think they own the forest or the game animals One elk season were were told to move our camp as this was where the elk usually cross to go up the mountain - i just thanked them and told them we'd be hunting the trail in the am - as we didnt have to travel far to be the first ones there in the morning! Sporstmans rules- first come first serve - but as we all know some people aren't sportsman Az far as the new camping road rules - it's something we do not want or need in OUR NF but they got the rules in place and we need to try and cooperate and see if we can change some of these ridiculious new rules! camping should be a MINIMUM of 30 ft from a road for safety purposes who's to say when the 72 hrs start - most hunters aren't in camp duiring shooting hrs but then agin it's not hard to tell if someone has been around a camp!! like i heard - LIVE WITH IT - till we can get together and change it!

Commissioner Pleads Not Guilty
elkaholic replied to bonuspointjohn's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
you got to understand - he knows how the game is played!! turning ones self in -and gettting a citation should be admission of guilt!! - to plead not guilty is the ONLY way for him to avoid possible charges/fines from either the judge or the commission . one dove - one fish -one frog , lizard whatever praire dog - if he broke the law and admitted to it and recieved a citiaion - where do they draw the line !! a lesson to remember - !! -
the 16x50 pcf are a much better fit of glassing offhand - 20's are for tripods to big to handle stay away from the xcf's cheaper variation in my opinion My 15 yr old pair are my go to binos and still work great - for distance glassing-easy light and work great off a tripod quality glass for the price used ususally less than 100

did i miss read something - where does it say we will have a new law on no baiting ?

we all know the computer selects random #'s for the draw - most likely the names are drawn on a n alphabetical type system like the first 2 letters of the last name -- whole families have been drawn putting in for the exact same hunts on different applications!! case in point - the family from showlow - (i think ) a few yrs back all applied seperatly for buffalo - they all drew the exact same hunt! like 4 of the 5 bull buffalo tags - astronmical odds!! they had to rent a refrigerator semi for the meat!- maybe someone else can verify. the g&f has never changed the programing of the draw as far as we know - time for a change !!!
