there is hardly __NEVER leftover civilian tags other than the dec cow which equals no elk they are gone
-
if you read the regulations you have to be retired or active national guard to hunt in the limited area - the buffer area is for the civilians - you can only apply for left over tags if you are national guard or retired military in the second drawing- exmilitary means nothing - you are a civilian anyone is eligible for the 3rd over the counter tags if any are left! thought you quit hunting the depot Don - quit tellin your friends - lol remember there are very limited # of civilian tags-- I applied for 4 different depot hunts #'s - I applied for chance at a total of 10 tags - my whole elk season was limited to drawing one of 10 tags available to civilians - I applied archery rifle and muzzleloader- I was unsuccessful - though ive been drawn before- i'll not make this mistake agin - I prefer better odds!! there are approx. only 25 civIlian tags split between the 2- archery seasons the 2- rifle and the muzzy hunts-- that is for both bull and cow if you draw there are lots of restrictions - remember you are a civilian on a military base!! their rules period! you basically have a mile wide strip around the base to actually hunt - on basically 3 sides - each approx 5 miles long - that's it ! 99 % of the elk population beds in the limited area and you have approx. 1-2 hrs in the morning to catch them coming off 6b-rogers lake or garland praire- same thing in the evening leaving the limited area - that's it! I appied an drew and was issued a leftover second drawing national guard tag last yr - I had to give it back to g&f because I was ineligible to apply for it - my mistake - they also kept my 121 $

be prepared for lots of hunters/ guides - one of the most sought after tags is bull unit 9- expect lots traffic -you'll find every water source has a trail camera or stand /blind. find water and then backtrack to bedding areas -if possible or ambush at a fence crossing close to water pray for rain as this helps to get isolated patchs of water - find a hidden wallow along a little creek some where - use google earth to get an idea of possible spring areas off the main drags great tag!
-
don't forget water sources - they almost DAILY come to water - not telling anyone to sit in a blind by a waterhole but proven successful- especially archery scouting is the key!
-
its not hate but cant understand how people draw repeated hard to draw early elk tags with no bonus points- I got friends who have drawn 6b archery bull tags 4 out of the last 5 yrs like others with repeats - I've been lucky on a couple of tags but hard to swallow the samo's getting tags every year. sure luck of the draw but when was the last time G&F actually changed the draw prossess ?? different number of hunters every yr crap but it has to be a computer program CHANGE THE PROGRAM G&F

guessin scores- dont really matter - tapin the rack does! over guessin - just makes the hunter/ client have dreams of success and a big rack of a lifetime over guessin - just gives the rest of us a good chuckle and a head shake

yep ;lots of guys use cabelas---- only they arent as quick to post charges - and even harder to check if you were charged anything -
-
the best shot was would have been when you first started filming but right at the 43 second mark, as long as i was less than 40 yrds hopefully my the arrow would fly true and I'd be celebrating an awesome bull down
-
what are you calling - the only one who got close to the actual score ?? within an inch?? i've been on most of the contests on Az hunting sites and if i get within 3-5 inches thats a good guess. telling it like it is - are we talking gross or book score - my coues grossed 119 5/8 but officially booked 108 - so do tell everyone its a 108 or a 120 a shed antler on another site was just up for guess the score - at least 80% or better underscored the antler to many important things going on in our world today , to worry if someone shows a rack and you disagree with the stated score - be carefull what you bet - its easy to lose!

I'm sure everyone heres is praying for a fast recovery for this youth. my closest - out to target practice yrs ago freind took his dads 30-30 i had no knowledge of them then - he claimed to know it all he loads the tube - goes to lever a round - gun goes off the bullet hits 2 ins from my boot - it was time to unload and get back in the truck and take this guy home! -
be glasing the eastern slopes - north and south -- this time of year the sun is inthe southern hemisphere so this side of the hill will warm first - i've found pigs on all ranges of a mtn - the bottoms to the tops etc . it was cold - rainy- mist - windy weather - we opted to hunt the draws and canyon bottoms thinkin they be out of the weather - freind comes over - Gary I see Piggies - they were on the very top of the mtn behind us. they will be where ya find them - good luck --- we found 2 differnt herds scouting - never seen them in either spot hunting season - go figure!
