1st time quail season
elkaholic replied to desertotter's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
More than once I've actually called quail back after a flush - if they do not fly a great distance down in 29 where the grass/scrubs are thick and can be over 3 ft high they tend to drop back in pretty quick if they haven't been spooked a lot we flushed a group - there was an old plow in the field we sat to take a break - started to hear the calls - so I mimicked the sound and tried to be the loudest - after about 10 minutes a small bunch actualluy came back to within less than 20 yrds and we thought WOW they wlked to within 10 still calling back and forth but now you could see the movement of several birds - this flush we were ready and got a couple I never go quail hunting without a quail call they are handy on your deer hunt also as sometimes you can fool the deer into thinking your noise or movement was something way more natural to them - quail in the area -

crappin on threads ? cute pups would love to have one - sorry if you are offended CP I just gave my reason for not takin one! wasn't meant as a crap on thread if your a dog lover - nothing of what I stated is untrue and you know it ! and it won't matter cuz you'll grab one of these cuties . and make it a family member . - nothing better than a LAB in my opinion - all I've ever had - 8 over my life time Anyone wanting or needing a pup - don't look any farther - go get one of these they are gorgeous -
-
I'm very sorry to say - NO more ! I've always had a dog - up to 3 at a time "BUT" it is time to try to go places and do things where a dog isn't a reason for not going. young pups - great but still need lots of attention 2-10 yrs olds - great companion's- fun to be with, for most of the time 10 till ? -- family that you have to take care of - can mean lots of different things / problems always wanted a deep chocolate lab - others always showed up first - lol our ole lady is pushin 11 and hates to be alone and often thought of a pup for companionship but then we are starting the cycle all over agin - just like everytime before her cute pups - they'll all find great homes

the law is different in regards to deadheads and sheds option 3 which is probably the most frequently used ------- pickem up - don't tell anyone

mtn lions average 1 litter every 2-3 yrs through its breeding life a young mtn lion will normally stay with its mother and leave to establish its own territory at about 2 yrs of age and they will not look like a kitten probably why you were able to get pictures - as the youngn had no history with humans it may have been crying for its other siblings as well - the mother probably has a new batch of cubs your lion looks to be a young 2 yr old - small skinny youngn its generally not breeding season now but cub season
-
cool pic -story and video- just one comment - chances are this is a juvenile that was run off by it's mother mating season is generally dec-march - chances are this youngn is still calling for mommy

It's what ever you are confident shooting - I prefer a fixed blade - less chance something going wrong over the yrs shot Zwickeys- old Bears - Bear chisel - Thunderheads - Muzzy- Slik Trick and probably a few I do not remember I do not remember ever using a mechanical when taking a killing shot if you take your time - get within range- pick a spot and place a confident shot in the kill zone - It should DIE a friend has told me he's stuck on Swackers for his upcoming elk hunt - I've expressed my opinion but told him if you are confident then use it - it's your choice and nobody else's

could have been favoring that leg for some time - learned to live with it earlier accident / injury could cause wierd rack and deformaties sometimes soft or wet conditions can cause elongated hoofs in animals over a long period of time in those habitats as normal wear and tear of hard / rocky surfaces usually wear them down

Hi-Point 380 biggest waste of money ever - never loaded smoothly always a hang-up and you never knew if it would fire - pull trigger nothing - then when you expect nothing- 3-4th pull - it would scare the crap out you when it went off never made it thru a box of shells before it was gone out the door - hope the next guy had better luck- he want a gun to dinker with in training for gunsmith - well he got one definitely was the worst gun I've ever owned
-
there is a lot of really good loper country that gets over looked each yr in 8 most will spend too much time looking in the obvious garland praire and drake areas
-
your on short time now - expect wet weather - rough conditions - just have fun

someone is always getting paid on a guided hunt and some unguided hunts too it happens even with governors tag when an animal is taken - especially if it is true "trophy class " animal It may be a bonus or under the table or whatever - cash or merchandise - that's the way the game is played you can say some guys are lucky than others or we can just say some are committed to the hunt- which includes scouting - hunting- and dealing with all aspects of harvesting an animal and satisfying a client - including getting it to the final mount. just like anything in life - you basically get what you pay for - if your cheap - you get cheap and you know it the rest is up to you . if you can get paid for information - you probably earned it! lets just say -- for most guides - for what they get paid - they earned it It ain't all glamour and glitter ! so grab a camera and hit the woods your big payday is out there
-
no = I think the last photo of the "young" 7x7 is the potential monster in a couple yrs when I get a tag!! the second from last -- only about a month of growth to go from when the picture was taken - hes barely gonna go 320- got 2-3 yrs before he's an awesome bull won't make it - lol
-
buy cheapo cameras if you are willing to leave them on known hunting spot- mineral licks old feeders etc its a chance you take - or you should at least expect it to happen thus the cheapo cameras I'm not saying its right or fair but a good probability ! especially after being on CWT an reading the tales of others

from what I understand about a buffalo hunt in the general area of grand canyon state park pretty much all the known waterholes have blinds - guess its like 20 - all have permanent pop-up type blinds each is assigned a hunter and you sit 15-16 hrs a day waiting for the buffalo to come out the park and you hope they run by your blind now that's not to say you can't hunt where and how you like but this is the norm from what I've been told if you want to hunt water you'll have company
