well not the hunt I'd like to be on wife is still horizontal for most of the time - deep rumbling chest coughing sometimes light sometimes it doesn't seem to want to stop hoping meds start to work soon she woke this am and just said - I'm not going! hope everyone has a great hunt - At this point I just hope it subsides and a trip to the hospital isn't required. Kinda a bummer cuz this is really a good tag but hey her health is more important than this hunting trip!

just want to thank all who offered some great information and help on my wife's hunt - which starts Friday. still not sure where we will start or go - a lot depends on if her recent -several days of hacking /coughing which causes headaches will pass. hopefully in the next couple days . we will still go hunting but not sure if any real physical hiking / hunting will be possible if she's not 100 % we all know trying to hunt when feeling ill - is not a lot of fun weather looks to be real cool and clearing by season opener lows around 30-- highs mid 50's good luck to all whom will be hunting this hunt! hopefully pics will follow later of this her first bull elk hunt

oh I bet money there are some out in this weather freeezing their little dodads off- being unprepared for some of these quick winter storms can be deadly - those out in some of the remote BO areas may not have know exactly what to expect. hope all are safe - warm and have a successful fun hunt should be easy tracking with a blanket of rest snow - though most likely be gone by Friday morning thanks for the carbon dioxide tip but with several windows cracked and the top vents on trailer cracked - I'm sure no carbon dioxide buildup is going to happen - its not like I leave it on all night - just long enough to warm things up before bed and in the morning doc prescribed some medicine about the same as stated above - only problem its suppose to be contagious - --- by the time she'll get over it - the hunt will be over too - oh well as long as we can get out and hunt a few days- even if it is driving and sitting water - better than laying around home

just the way they want it - depot never wanted civilian hunters to begin with - whom were not employed kinda giving them what they want negative civilian feedback so less numbers will apply next yr. I lost my money one yr when they started enforcing leftover rules - kinda whom ever the new commander is at the time gets to make changes as he sees fit, some are and have been anti hunters I couldn't even get g&f to give me an OTC tag to make up for the fact I paid for an elk tag and they had my money and it wouldn't really make any difference on the hunting areas not like I was asking for a refund- lol you might try to speak at the next meeting and get an OTC tag but I wouldn't hold my breath

Rental in Payson/Star Valley, spring turkey, spring bear in 22.
elkaholic replied to JLG's topic in Classified Ads
it opens up a whole new area for different hunts - quit hunting most of those listed as not always possible to camp out way to go offering your place - just need a few tags and a vacancy sign up - lol -
the question would be if they canceled just the civilian hunts but allowed the others

pictures off I-40 first is by crocton exit - second going from ash fork to Williams -third is williams all taken 30 minutes ago wife has acute Asthmatic Bronchitis - not good - going to have to delay opening morning and hope one more day in bed will help do not think this weather would be too good for her right now most will be probably be gone by Friday but expecting more thru the night be safe out there people

hunter kills a deer opening morning local hears shots up the valley from his home and finds hunter with dead deer local helps identify the species as mule deer and the hunter has a whitetail tag hunter states he didn't know there would be any other deer than whitetail in the area since it was whitetail season local gives hunter 2 choices turn self into G&F or he'd be turned in hunter calls G&F G&F shows up and takes the deer and gives a warning to hunter - no citation local pissed where is the warden whom gives citations for shooting an illegal sparrow when you need him
-

I do own some acreage in 10 with a trailer on site - I'm already filling the butane bottle and plan on heating the trailer with an attached element . I know due diligence in having windows cracked and enough draft to not worry about suffocation from lack of air. it would be nice to have a chance to actually harvest an elk on my own land but know it may not happen , due to the lowered numbers of elk in the areas around my area of unit 10. the elk may not have traveled this low yet, plus on this hunt we only a few days , so pick a spot or two and give it our best . spending an extra hr and a few extra miles traveling back and forth to the trailer is something I'm willing to do . Normally camping out is the best and way easier but with comfort a few miles away and my wife is still hacking - the trailer seems like the best choice. plus even a few hrs in a nice warm bed is better than a sleeping bag on the ground. thanks agin to everyone! I hope the 10 degrees cooler will keep the elk out longer in the mornings and come out earlier in the evenings days are way to short this time of yr. keeping a pad and sleeping bag in the truck so she can rest in the afternoons .

if you lived in the area and know all the problems that can involve unethical and illegal practices by hunters and others yr in and yr out- one might appreciate seeing a citation or 2 handed out .
-
here agin you are ASSUMING it was hunters and not poachers
-
great bull great write up
-
POACHERS not hunters!! big difference ! not all poachers are after the meat if it was in fact hunters - that's about as low as one can get! 3+ first thing your buddy should have done was call G&F to report it

AZGFD Special Meeting
elkaholic replied to Flatlander's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
shouldn't your statement say ---- he then ****ILLEGALLY**** left his tag with another AZGFD employe to tag his elk ?? -
which one would you shoot ----- gotta love fall strutting toms -- gobbling every morning
-
i'm pretty sure they mean "retired veterans" as they can get clearance for restricted areas too. i dont think any veteran will get preferernce before active enlisted --i'm a vet and doubt i'll get preference lucky to even draw when i diid
-
regular hunting civilian tag holders have never been allowed to go into the restricted areas .to hunt-- you still need a regular background type check to hunt the depot as a civilain seeing how they reduced the number of civilain tags - i highly doubt they will ever change the rules and allow civilian hunters into the restricted areas now if an wounded animal gets into the restricted area from the buffer zone ,they have allowed a security escort to recover the animal pretty sure that now civilians hired to work on the base do have access to the restricted areas for work and are usually monitored by base security but not for hunting-
-
have drawn depot tags before- will never apply agin though I did fill two elk tags and staying in the barracks is way cool -- lots of rules/ regulations can cancel any hunt - area without notice- closed so a birfull bird could use rifle range to qualify - then he doesn't show - lost a days hunting time reduced number of civilian tags so now not worth the hassle in my opinion --working base civilians and active or retired got it made almost a guaranteed tag especially in second chance draw most put in general hunts and if not f drawn always afew leftovers and few people able to apply sorry jack but you do know how the game is often played on the base!!
