Big Boquillas Ranch Threat or Leverage or Both!
elkaholic replied to SirRoyal's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I'm sure there are few of the guides and different outdoorsman groups whom might have a little pull with the BO rancher , since they've been involved with hunting or the ranch cleanups for many a yr. just like asking permission or helping out any rancher who has private land in the off season- it often opens gates that are closed normally for everyone else lots of the " who ya know" gets ya an advantage!! just like around my land - I have the local cattle ranchers # and call if I see a cow or calf in trouble - he's in the field a lot more than I can possibly be and he remembers stuff like that and when asked where the deer or elk are - he doesn't mind giving the latest sightings -
I guess if you like sitting in a blind by a water hole - basically everyday you hunt - from pre dawn till dusk waiting for the possibility the herd will drift or run your way - have fun

heard of 2 to one family -- they also had a tag last yr but were unsuccessful so all you need is 2 bp loyalty and hunter ed to draw

Big Boquillas Ranch Threat or Leverage or Both!

I'd like to know if they are just reworking the damaged roads - etc or actually trying to solve the problem by actually building an all weather road - this is where most of the complaint / problems were first started I believe a good road which will benefit the rancher/leasee and the hunters - knowing access is actually improving , should be the priority of all parties . just blading / dozring old roads with the samo dirt accomplishes nothing come bad weather -
stuffed up in a bag and wrapped in a canvas tarp isn't as desirable as it once was - lol been there done that - more than once - in all kinds of weather - never worse for wear either

well when you want him to carry some real heavy stuff - let me know i'll give him a try - lol need a different saddle though - and a ladder make for packing out those big bundles of meat a whole lot easier - plus all the gear needed on a pack hunt

if I had the proper equipment on hand or in truck and could get to the tank - I'd do my best to at least remove it . just drag it of far enough so not to pollute the tank take pictures first to show exactly what you found .

that's why they have trailers - right - just got a new trailer - 5x9 approx. - easily loads up a quad and several big ice chests + a lot of camping stuff

plan your hunt during the opening of dove season - never fails that the snakes are out and about easy to find just glance at the bushes where your fallen dove landed.

Rifle hunt during Dec archery hunt
elkaholic replied to northAZarcher's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I've been approached during a dec rifle hunt by archers whom tried to tell me I was hunting illegal and wanted me to leave the area even though I was just sitting glassing and they were the ones whom showed up after me - they didn't know there were rifle tags during an archery hunt -till I showed them my tag and told them that this was my rifle hunting area , that also had an archery season I told them to please go ahead if you want - I could use couple bird dogs to flush out the big bucks - if he runs please know I will most likely shoot, so you might want to get down as low as you can get I guess they learned a few things that day and decided to leave the area where lead might be flying. I've hunting almost every dec archery season even if I didn't have a rifle tag - never bothered me and have been nice enough to try to direct archers onto deer if they were non - shooters during some of my rifle hunts in my younger days I'd pack both rifle and bow - long before hunters starting carring all the extra weight like -- range finders and tripods and spotting scopes - 2 pairs of binos etc. hunter orange isn't included in my camo -
maybe next yr we can try to get a few veterans CWT members to meet to eat - so to speak as sitting by oneself isn't always a lot of fun . even if its for a single meal or place Dennys always great but thought of ihop but red/white blue pancakes didn't seem all that appetizing to me - lol Sizzler - or chilis for lunch? famous daves or olive garden for dinner ?
-
THANK YOU -- AMANDA for your more than generous discount at CWT . You are always doing something special for the Veterans - I for one - greatly appreciate everything you do - even though I can't always get to go or benifite from these offers

kinda need to remember that there are a lot of hunting seasons going on right now - with all the tags available in 10 -that means several THOUSAND hunters have been pounding the same general areas as you - driving the same roads- lots of hunters chasing elk all over the place - being 3rd- 4th to get a chance - means tougher hunting as the elk are getting more conditioned to turn nocturnal - they may be coming out later and going in earlier than normal its hard to say scrap everything and start over - I'd say give it a day or 2 in the areas you've seen the shooters and look to find the bedding areas as these elk are getting tired of running so much - they will most likely be held up in the deeper thicker stuff nothing is frozen yet - water everywhere with more to come - they may still be coming to tanks - but at night good luck on an added note - this time of year they seem to like the edges of canyons and ridge lines find the trails dropping off into these canyons edges

first off - open country - desert hunting isn't as easy as some types of hunting that you maybe familiar with second any desert/ lighter colored camo will work great - older the better cuz its a 99% chance it'll get ripped or torn desert is full of wait a second type plants - most call it catclaw where theres not catclaw almost every plant will either hook - tear or catch your good camo - its that or your not leaving a rode or trail I usually carry one of those little sew kits in my camping stuff - saved many a set of camo from early disposal . you do not have to buy expense stuff - very few days of really cold weather dress in layers and take on and off as necessary thru out the day into the evening 21 has no deer left and by the way 22 a much better area to hunt - lol
