3 blade tri-verters testers
elkaholic replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
hello - got a chance to fire a few rounds this evenin - I shot the tri-verters side by side with muzzys and razor tricks - they all seemed to fly accurately out of my bow - a pse shark dual nrg cams 60 lbs- 30 in vapor pros - no complaints out to 30 yrds - good groupings - they basically all had about the same penatration depending on location in the target- sometimes if they hit a soft spot they got a little more- the only thing I can come up with so far is blade sharpness i took a new -repalcement blade and tried to shave my arm hairs - did alright the first pass- it wasnt as clean as i thought it might be - and then it didnt do to good - maybe the angle i was holding it. Now I know this may sound stupid but i actually tried to cut my thumb on a new blade and it was kinda difficult untill i applied a bit of pressure - Maybe its the type of metal the blades are made out of - Is it know to hold an edge? I'm just giving an account of what happened to me. Over all so far I think these are a great broadhead ! I really like the tip - its actually 4 sided insead of the normal 3 sided chisel point on most broadheads of this type! Still having fun shooting the tri-verters - I unscrew the broadheads each time before removing from target - I did notice the O-ring slides back about 6 in. After 30 some shots no problem with the o rings- While comparing the size of the holes the tri-verter leaves a notably bigger hole than the other two- which are both 4 bladed - thats about all for now - gary -
Field Judging Coues
elkaholic replied to Coffeeman's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I'm was just giving an idea - sure you may never really have a lot of time to score a deer but the 5-8-6 or 5-6-8 is pretty easy to remember - as far as mature deer - rarely does a buck weigh much more than 100 lbs anyway - and yes if hes bigger than the does has at least 4 or 5 points on each side and as wide as his ears - SHOOT who cares what he scores - ! chances are hes a mature buck ! gary -
Field Judging Coues

hello most people got the idea that 100 is the magic # of coruse anything over helps - here what a kinda need to look for g-1's - 5 in = 10in ---- the eyes guards g-2's - 8 in = 16in ---- the first point g-3's - 6 in = 12in ---- the second point mb's - 14 in = 28 in---- length of each antler spd - 14 in = 14in ---- spread- insides greatest width mass - 10 in = 20 in---- mass in 3 measurements - (4 1/2 )(3)(2 1/2) 10in --- total mass 20 approx ---- 100 for a perfect score of 100 on a typical 3x3 coues -
go buy a jar of ZESTY italian dressing - any name brand even the low fat - i pull out a large piece of aluminum foil- I actually use a butter type spread directly on the foil about he size of the fish and pour a bunch of the zesty - lay the fish on it skin side down - then pour more zesty over the top --roll - up foil and then the ends - pop on a heated -hot - on high - grill for at least 5 minutes- depending on size of fish fillets - halibit chunks take like 10 - a side - serve as you like - or just eat it !- quick easy and tastie ! we never need a tarter sause when done this way! we've tried all kinds of fish this way its great - and we've even used the Zesty on most game meat as a marinade though I've never used it on a salad - lol Gary

DONT PUT ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET!!!
elkaholic replied to arizonaelitefreak's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
hello - I'm not sure how to react and i dont want to say something to offend someone but cameras are a tool !- they let you know what kind of bucks are in the area - sorry the bucks don't play candid camera for everyone to know exactly what days and times they visit the waterhole or the salt pile or the corn pile - but at least you know there are nice deer in the area - but to kinda blame the darn rain for making it difficult to get pictures at one spot and spoiled your chances at the bucks showing up - ????? so instead of sitting on one or more "baited areas" GO HUNTING ! no offence meant towards how people hunt - Gary -

3 blade tri-verters testers
elkaholic replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
hello - Got mine in the mail today-- I want to thank Steven Ward for this opportunity to see how the new 3 bladed Tri-Verters work - A very intersting design - kinda like the old Koplin heads from the 80's. , the way the blades come off the ferrule at an angle. Just from playin around - hopefully no bandaids will be needed - the O rings seem to work flawlessly to allow the blades to open even if just pullling on one blade - to simulate a 45 angled shot - which i hope to do later - not at plywood or anything but an old target. Once the blades flip open they seem to protect the O ring from being damaged or torn off the broadhead -- the blades being sharpened on both sides allow more cutting if the arrow is pulled out or moved around inside! I'll be checkin out how they fly out of my bow tomorrow - Thanks agin Gary -

hello - never sat in a pop-up but i can't even count all the groundblinds I've built in the last 30 yrs. some are still around and will be used agin this year . I've gone into a tank at noon and dug out a spot - brushed it in and had turkeys - deer and elk all show-up and walk with-in 10-20 yrds of the front of blind - that same evening . One of the main items some people may forget is which way the wind is blowing - in the evenings it usually blows the same way dday in and day out --just like hunting you need to be set-up down wind of the general direction from which you expect them to show - now I know thats not always possible - so while in the blind I crush the needles of the pine or the juniper or oak or sage and rub it around and on my camo's to help mask the scent - it may be back a ways from a tank or on a fence line crossing or along a travel route - each hunting set-up is different - sometimes right in the berm of the tank ! have fun this season - let the little guys walk - drop the biggen's - hunt safe - gary

hello - i like frozen milk jugs - they can be arranged in variuos ways - I'm sure 16 oz water bottles would work really good also ! they also provide extra water if necessary- always rember to crack the drain plug when transporting meat in a cooler with ice- you do not want any meat soaking in water - or a blood brine !- Gary
-
hello - in and around Parker canyon lake - whats nice is you can also do a little bass fishin on a scouting trip -- the lower foothills of this area usually hold a good number of deer - or the mustang mtns. Gary
