    Pentax 16x60 PCF WP

To all you hunters/ sportsman out there : I'm sorry i din't see this earlier - ther are a lot of outstanding youth hunting camps goin on every yr. When you have something like the pentax binos - you do not really need and will probably never use THINK OF THE KIDS most these camps have raffles to give prizes away to the young guys and gals It doesn't have to be nib with tag etc. bino's - spotting scopes, tripods -camping stuff - back packs gps - knives - 2 way radios etc. any and everything you may have upgraded - what better way than to put a smile on kids face . we have one comin in unit 42 - a lot of people donate thier time and experience to help these young hunters . So if you can find anything , it'd be for the kids. we do a table raffle - evey kid gets a # and when drawn they come and pick what they want - last yr one kid wanted the folding camp stool , had just talked to his dad that day while scouting ,how'd he like one - when his # was drawn -it was stil available- you'd of thought he won the lottery , the way he acted! So go thru some of that hutnin stuff - if its the first time you've handled it in a couple yrs, or you've upgraded and it hasnt been on a recent hunt - PLEASE DONATE to a YOUTH CAMP!!!! Gary I got a box of stuff here now - osprey range finder , a brunton outback compass, some new camo belts and hats -a packable varmit cassette caller - a eastmans sausge-jerky kit / with rack and spices ---I shop estate sales and usually can get some great deals Now picture a young hunter , their # was drawn and they won a pair of pentax 16x60 bino's

    Bringing dog to hunting camp

guess thats a question to ask the others in your hunting camp! if i'm camo'd - dont want no dog jumpin on me actin freindly depends on dogs obedience train'n! yappin -barkin dogs got no business in camp. well mannered and dogs that can be chained up and stay put quietly aren't aproblem- usually

    Cattle and coues

my take on this topic- cows are pretty much anywhere - one yr here another there depending on grazing rights. cows can really move around a lot - deer do not - you can find deer in the same general area yr in and yr out. a few cows are not gonna move the deer out of their home turf. Deer /cattle/ elk get along - i've even seen young elk playing with cows/calfs while mom's feed peacably the only real problem is the water source - a lot of cows can turn a stream/seep/spring/water tank into a stinkin pie hole - in a matter of days deer / elk do not like to drink out of a stinky/ urinated /crapped in cow tank - they will move and find someplace else to drink thus changing their habits .

    Has anyone ever seen this?

displays of dominance is nothing new to the animal world- probably happens all the time - sparing is normal - these two may not like each other - sure during such matchs their hormones- glands get activated- and the young spike probably has never smelt it before I'm kinda guessin but seems normal !- lol

    How Long Is Too Long?

Kinda a funny story - i had taken a lion and really wanted to get it mounted- I had the hide tanned and had to wait a yr or so to figure out who to use for the mount. - Now I was fairly known to a few taxi's around town I'd drop in occassionally and see what kinda work they were doing.I picked a guy to do my mount and put down a small deposit to get the wheels turnin- i was to make payments. I only made 2 and then due to no work really could not make anymore-i just let it go. about 1 1/2 yrs later i dropped in - the guy says hey i'll have your lion done fairly soon - I was took back cuz i hadn't made any payments and i still had the hide in my freezer at home - no way he wa workin on it! Moral - they get so busy it's easy to skip or forget whats on the books - they are involved in several projects usually -- so unless you've been buggin this guy - regularly - the squeaky wheel- he may have over looked your mount!- time for a i need asap or ask for full refund and start someplace else agin - or hang around his shop the next few weeks tellin every new customer your story !!

    Stolen

Bummer- I will pack -up most of hunting stuff the night before but usually have a seperate hunting /ammo bag for the bino's,rangefinder, more exspensive hunting gear - it's packed and ready next to gun or bow by the door - last thing to toss in. I get parinoid when i have to make a last minute stop at store. try to cover everything up. hate to say it's someone close/neighbor but these are the people who know you are a hunter and see you packin the truck - even some kids from the local school - don't know if ya have hunting decals on truck but most of us do and its a giveaway - they see camping gear and ice chests . it's an easy sign, this guy is going huntin I've been lucky so far but hate to hear this stuff-

    20B Muzzleloader hunt

as far as coues - if there is a pocket of whitey's nobody is gonna tell ya - second if you have already located a few good bucks - spend your time getting to know that area and try to pattern them - instead of runnin all over lookin for mr. big. 20b is huge - the area north of pleasant always has bucks but the farther up the hill ya get the better - find those hiden water sources - bingo lots of deer in and around bumblebee too

the good -the bad - the ugly

well- Just got back from my elk hunt- it was actually a hard hunt for early elk - the buglin was very sparatic- never any screamers that we all dream about, who don't know when to quit. Some hunters gave up after 5 days of never seeing an elk. My standards had fallen to anything. I need meat in the freezer. So this morning I dropped a fat young cow at about 6:30-- I did miss an off hand ,150 yrd shot in wainin light, at a herd bull on the 5th evening of the hunt, guess I got a little excited, as these were the first elk I had seen! the good: the highlight of my hunt came on the second morning. After an unsuccessful morning outing. I was on my way back to camp. Still looking around, as you never know what you will see. I spotted a downed, dead, elk on the hillside. It was anice 6x6 300 class bull, with a small hole just in front of the back leg, about 5 inchs down. I guess someone had shot it the night before. I called it in, and no one had reported a hit bull. I then called G&F and reported the bull and asked for someone to come check it out. The bull was not yet ripe - but was on it's way. It was gettin stiff but not yet bloated. I got a call back fron G&F , I guess a hunter had reported a lost bull. this bull was over a mile from where the shot was taken and there was one little hole that i had to pull the hairs apart to see. It never bled a drop. There is no way in heck that they would have located this bull. It would have been very easy to have just tagged this bull and not said anything! I was so happy with the outcome - The hunter was a elderly-( not sure of exact age, though i did hear some thing about just retiring) Lady on her first elk hunt - You should have seen the smiles. So was so happy to have her elk- I think she was even happier that she didnt have to go up and down anymore hills- lol the bad - Actually seeing a 350 + class bull standing in a meadow last night and not beeing able to shoot- spotted at 6:00 pm at 500 + yrds - and my limits on my 06 is 350 ish, if I have a good rest or shooting sticks . There was no way possible to approach this bull , with 15 minutes of shooting light left. Kinda made me want a 300 winmag with a 6x24 leupold scope- lol i just enjoyed the show , while it lasted. the ugly-- I'm not one to condemn someone who doesn't know. A first time hunter kills a 6x6 320 ish bull opening night. I check it out the next morning - nice bull it's hanging from a tree - skinned. He shows me his recovered bullet - 100 gr, 243 - nice little hole in leg- shattered the heart. Great shooting. His (experienced helper) friend told me he was gonna hang it for 5 days. I'm like --WHY. - I told thats how he does it. Ok - No game bags one it - its soon to be in the direct sunlight- It's not for me to say anything. - Stop in the next day - its still hangin, looks like its got a sheet wrapped around to keep flys off - I ask why is that thing still hangin - the helper just smiles- I guess that day to keep the sunlight off the wrapped the whole thing in a GI colored tarp, it basicall hung in direct sunlight for 4-5 five hrs for 2 days.don't know if that changed durimg the night Now it's The third day and they are leaving to go home Benson. Not an early start and they did cut up the elk and put it on a trailer. I'm at a lost - They were advised several times by experience hunters to do something to take care offf the elk - Flag is 10 miles away to a processor- get it cut up and on ice - something- The helper just smiled. I wish them luck but truly know they had no clue as to how to take care of meat here in Az. And nothin anyone said mattered . SAD I hope the hunter learned a few things on his first hunt! Well got to go clean up- my 8 bags of elk meat- iced down since 10:30 and pop in the spare ice box - for at least one more day - lol

Whats going on in 10 this yr.

well heres another story - just makes one wonder - what the heck has happened to hunting in Arizona I do not know if this hunter is a member here but since 10 is havin problems heres a few more issues archery hunters are facin in the woods. Unit 10 Archery Elk/EARLY RIFLE" Just got back from Unit 10 Archery elk after ten days of hunting. I still have a few mornings left to try and get it done! Overall it's been a fun hunt with a lot of interesting and bad situations along the way! Here's the unlucky experiences we've had during our hunt. 1.) Brother hits bull, other hunter finds it and cuts the head off. Don't know who has the head. It's a bull with really good bottoms and royal with slightly shorter 5ths. Not many bulls were harvested during the 5 day rain storm and horrible rut for the first week of the hunt on the west side of the unit. If anybody knows who has this bull I would really appreciate some info by pm message or on here. Game and fish was called, if anything shows up of it.--More detail posted on this after the next two situations. 2.) Friday evening, the 8th day of the hunt. We glass four bulls up, two exceptional 380+ type bulls. Also an awesome 360 and 350 type bulls rutting and bugling good with only one cow between them. Saturday morning I set up perfectly on them. The bull is coming in extremely hot. Crosses a meadow and is now coming into archery range and on a direct path to me. All the sudden I hear somebody on the ridge next to me YELLING trying to scare the bull. Bull stops coming in and shuts up. Cow crosses the clearing scared to death. Guy slams his door, starts his truck and goes full speed away and onto the next spot. This guy was also going full speed in his truck that same morning just farther away from me, making noise with his truck and trying to shut the bulls up. I'm assuming this is a guy out scouting for the upcoming EARLY RIFLE UNIT 10 elk hunt this Friday. I'm also assuming he has these bulls picked out for his clients and didn't want me to have a chance at one of them. So yes he saved that bull on Saturday morning but I'm LOOKING FOR A UNIT 10 EARLY RIFLE BULL ELK HUNTER TO HUNT THESE FOUR BULLS. It's going to have to be somebody who's serious and can be able to scout these bulls from a glassing spot days prior to the hunt. My brother will still likely be hunting these bulls on the archery hunt, but these bulls seem to be staying in the same isolated spot so I'm confident they will be in there on Friday morning. I'm not the type that like to cause conflict, but these guys that are messing other people's hunt up need to be taken care of; especially after I possibly could have had an opportunity of a lifetime. I hope the guy that did this will also read this and understand that this crap needs to end!! 3.) If I sit a tank I'll usually put a sign saying I'm at the tank ahead just to let other hunters know I'm on the tank. I don't mind if people drive by the tank, they have places to go hunt also. What I didn't like about this hunt and in unit 10 is the guy who drives past my sign at 5:00 p.m. on a dead end road. Then he drives back by the tank at 5:40. Then he comes back by my sign at 6:30 p.m. and drives back by at 7:00 p.m. Not only that but he decides on his last trip to slam his door just after passing my tank. Just a lot of careless disrespectful people in unit 10, and I hope the people doing this will read this and start respecting the archery hunters in the field. I know you've got the early rifle tag coming up, but the archery hunters have a tag also and they don't come that often either!! Here's more detail on how the tracking and finding of the bull went. 1.) Brother hits bull at 20 yards in the chest. After 1 1/2 hours of waiting we track blood trail with a ton of blood. Blood starts to fade to drops after .30 of a mile. It's now getting dark so we decide to come back in the morning to finish tracking. Next morning we track blood to two beds where he bleed a pool of blood in each. Continue tracking with good blood and then to drops again. Finally after .50 of a mile drops and tracks had run out, with no sign of a trail. We looked hard in the direction of travel and everywhere we could but the bull had just stopped bleeding. End up finding the bull with it's head cut off by another hunter several days later 1.60 miles from where he had shot it. Same ridge and direction of last blood trail we had, We just missed getting to it before someone else found it. Good luck to whoever has the antlers, I'm sure you have a good story of how you harvested a dead bull! Other than that I had a great time even with all the rain. Usually I wouldn't post, but after all that's happened in that unit I'm was pretty diss-appointed with how other hunters are acting these days!

    does anybody know this person?

At least we got the other 1/2 - no real comment other than , what happened to the bull? if trully a really high above the lung shot - he'll be back in action quickly. Can't see a bull that was really wanted, ignored and passed over. oh well - off to my hunt hope everyone got home safely. sure there are a ton of untold tales of woe hope mine is a freezer full and not tag soup.

    What would you do?

""I know if G&F just placed a paper plate at 40 yards and said put 4 out of 5 arrows in it before putting your app. in the box I would get a tag more often! "" we all should know Bryon Ferguson , the famous trick archery shooter - shoots aspirin tossed in air - shoots thru a wedding ring - famous for all types of trick shooting. did you see his most famous moment - missed an elk at 30 yrds didnt even come close - it was televised on a hunt show once - even the greatest archers in the world can miss - hittin plates a 40 yrds dont mean jack in the field lookin at a live animal, doin his thing. sure practice and skill is a good base but it aint real huntin and we all know it -

    Law vs. Ethics

one way to look at it! really rather simple- act like you have your 10 yr old son, brother ,sister, daughter, nephew ,grandson on their first ever hunt. what are you going to teach him about hunting. law and ethics tend to bend and even break in the excitement of the moment! then theres just stupid left to deal with the mess! of course this does not apply to a family of poachers!
