Durate64 is correct. saying the deer are small is an understatement when they are bedded. These deer in the picture have good antlers. I too am not a great field judge but I would estimate the one looking at us is 90+ and would have to see the other from another angle but it too looks high 80's and above.

Plenty of deer. You shouldn't have a problem. When in doubt fine the Ocotillo's.. Putting binos on a tripod will help a bunch.

The 530 are no longer in service. Garmin will not service but will offer a 20% off if you upgrade. save about 100 bucks. The 530 works well. I just called them about this and i have to upgrade my system. Very interesting.

This is true. What i remember about them is they climb trees. Jump up in low branches and eat the leaves but that could be a different deer but still interesting though. I have multiple friends that would still miss them just the same

In my opinion the quality of MD bucks down south have gone down. As you all have stated, you say more mature bucks. What i commonly see now is people referring to a big buck or mature buck but in the day it was a normal buck. That is all in the eyes of the shooter. I'm perfectly content witht he shooter being happy. Everyone has their trophy. With that many more tags, more pressure, less water at times mother nature has a turnover. Currently i'm seeing good bucks. I can't kill one but I'm seeing them. I would love to see a branched antler rule-as way too many spikes are being killed. I also wouldn't mind seeing the youth hunts go to any deer. The alloted number of tags currently would not hurt a deer population.

I know excatly where that tree and shrub is at. JK. Killing seems to be the easiest of the hard part for sure. Packing is definately the hardest. For all who are putting in for elk. I suggest unit 10 only. No need to worry about other units as the drought, the cold, the sun, the moon have depleated all the other units. Save your money. Gas is going back up. Do not seek the the treasure.

I have never hunted 19A but if I did, i would first scout the areas closest to unit 8 and 6B if possible. Both units have a larger numbers of animals. Find water--- hot during archery season. No reason not to share some basic hunting info to a young new hunter. And I do agree with everyone one else, hunt somewhere else. 19A very tough

35A and B seem to have dropped. IMO it was due to that storm. probably washed them out.

I had the pleasure of helping out with the SCI youth hunt this weekend. Always a good time. So far I have been able to get 4 out of 6 tags filled. Nov wt hunt, my wife, dad and Iammac have tags in 33. Opening morning we get out and I have a buck at first light. Since IAMMAC is on his first hunt, we give him the opportunity. Fire and a miss. Shot was a little longer than needed. Buck runs off and we make our trek to where i want to be. About 8 or so I glass up 4 bucks feeding together.they are just out of range. After a little sneaking we get in position, and low an behold two bucks laying down and another standing. Not sure what happend to the bigger of 4. We get a chance at a double opening morning. Didn't happen but we did get one. IAMMAC gets his first buck. Next morning Wife gets her deer. Great. On to SCI/Youth hunt. Greg's son is holding tag. 36A. We hit the area i want and as day breaks we spot deer. I put horns on a little one. at that point, Christian and I take off to get his deer. After two hills we jump the deer and can't get a shot. I go over one more hill and glass up a bigger deer. cant seal the deal so we go back to truck and move around hill to get a better position. AS we work up the canyon, I glass the deer coming our way across the canyon, 218 yards. I blunt, he stops and Christain seals the deer. Back to SCI camp. Get paired with Mark and his son Ryan. We meet up the next morning. Go into a little area, and day break brings another herd. Small buck spotted. We make a move without luck. Head back to truck and IAMMAC and Christain stayed on origianl herd and found 3 bucks. Took Ryan up the road and another animal down. Two hunts, four deer and 3 are first timers. It was so cool. My hunt starts Friday on I hope i have something else to share.

I have talked with other G and F people about the this. The commissioners are not going to lower the tags. $. What i would like to see is any deer for the youth hunt. 100 tags is not going decimate the population but certainly in 36B and 36 A taking a few mule deer does wouldn't be bad.

this is very interesting. Growing up my dad, brother and I hunted mainly by brush beating. Work the canyons together. No scopes iron sights. Shooting a moving animal was comin. Today, I still try a running shot. I won't waste 9 or 10 shots that is for sure but what i think Bill is getting at is if you practice at 100 (which is not far), you can make that successful shot. A great point he made is making sure to keep the crosshairs moving forward. Shot through your shot. I now do more glassing and bedding. this is fun as well. The next thought is this. How many take an ethical shot and make a poor shot? Practice, practice, practice is the only solution. Know your abilities. Know your gun, know your distance and know your comfort zone and that will increase your success..
