Howdy welcome to long range shooting. Right before the hunt is probable not the best time to start shooting at distances farther than you are comfortable with, it takes some time and understanding and alot of practice to consistently range and shoot at farther distances, in actual field conditions. If you have time read up on it and watch some videos ( gunwerks has some good ones on there website ) Learn to use a ballistics calculator and practice practice practice. If there is not enough time before your hunt I would probably sight your gun in for 250 yards and limit your shots to 300 max. I hope you have a fun and successful hunt.

I have that scope it is very clear and dials accurately each and every time. Great setup you have. If you can swing it I would try to get some reloading equipment not just for mor precise loads but for the cost of ammo if your going to shoot very much. Also there is much satisfaction the comes with making your own ammo Tailored to your setup. Good luck and have fun.

Howdy I would get a scope good rings and bases Burris has some excellent rings for around $50 and cameraland has the Vortex Viper HS 6-24x50 demo right now for $499. A very good scope that should suit your purpose very well. Good luck on your build

Howdy I used both the 10x42 and 12x50 for several years they are very good glass and I did not have any trouble with fogging. They are worth the money and I think you will be very happy with them.

I just got the scope last week and put it on my 257, and this week my wife and kids surprised me with a new Zeiss scope. I did mount the scope and fire about 40 rounds( It tracked perfectly). The scope is in like new condition. I am in the north phoenix area. Asking $675

I have a rifle railz and lockjaw in good condition (check them out in the CW Store). Asking $100

I have had both the 10x42 and the 12x50 they are excellent binoculars very good contrast and brightness, not quite as crisp to the edges as swaros still very nice they are worth every penny. If you are on a budget you might want to check out the zeiss conquest HD they are very nice as i'm sure the new meopta HD's are also. I did buy a meopta scope from cabelas but it ended up not holding zero so it was returned but the clarity and contrast of the scope was exceptional.

Nixon Monarch 4-16x50 BDC or Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 VPlex
AUminer replied to rossislider's topic in Long Range Shooting
If you are going to to be dialing in for yardage I would say definitely go with with the viper. If you are just going to zero the scope and forget it then I would go which ever one you like better. The Nikons are good scopes but i have had a 3 monarchs and none will dial in yardage the first time every time. -
Howdy all Just wondered if any of you guys had any experience with vortex vipers and the viper pst. I am looking at getting a couple scopes with custom turrets and I was wondering if the standard viper dials accurately and repeatedly or if I need to step up to the PST.

Sorry guys I probably should have posted this in long range shooting.
