  1. I am going to sight in my .30-06 this weekend. It is a Savage 110 with a 3-9x scope. Gonna be using 150 grain bullets. What should it be sighted in at? Was thinking 1-2 inches high at 100 yards, but that is cause what I think I have heard to use. WHat are y'all opinions? Let the fighting commence.

    Sight in question

Good tip, thanks for the reminder. I was gonna sight in at 25 then 100. then check 200 and 300. But may switch to 25 just to make sure i'm on paper then sight in at 200. This will be the best bachelor party ever! On my bachelor party I sight in my hunting rifle during the day and drink and shoot the stuff around the fire the night before.
  3. I was planning on hunting tomorrow, since its the last day of deer season. But of my 3 friends that like to hunt none are free and I am not motivated to go alone this time, specially since I don't have a truck anymore. So it looks like my first deer season will end empty handed. Close two weekends ago. Got to 70 yards before a cow busted me. Oh well thats hunting. There is always rabbit season.

    CWT BarBQ

If I can make it I will! All Saturdays in January are for deer hunting, or until I tag out.
  5. Got up at 4:30 this morning in a borrowed F150, my truck got totaled on Christmas day, and got everything ready to go to my blind. Turn on my GPS to double check the blind location, says low battery and dies after few minutes. I thought I had just changed those! Oh well I know the general area. I get it to work one more time so I can narrow it down and make it in my blind by 5:50. At 6:15 something big is splashing around behind me to my left, but its too dark. No clue, I figure a deer or other decent size animal. By 8:30 no sings of anything, I think there is just too much water now. They don't have to use my water spot. I decided to glass and still hunt, cause I still suck at glassing. (see glassing report below). I tried to take a picture of me before I left to glass to show off the beautiful country, but both batteries were dead, I got one good pic and then nothing. As I was leaving my truck to the hill I was gonna glass from I spotted a doe 250 yards away with my naked eye! Get over there and can't find any deer. Only glass up 2 blue and white football shaped birds. No deer after an hour, I was impatient and wanted to check a new spot. But it was a row of tanks, and didn't show much sign of activity. Took a 45 minute nap around 1230. Then headed home around 2 after driving to try to find some new places. I need to learn to glass better and to go out with someone who is good at glassing. If anyone is ever interested, let me know. Good company is always welcome. Now for the one pic, my first pic attempt......

4 dead batteries, 0 dead deer

Care to tell me what it is I should have learned? What kind of birds were they? They were chasing each other around. I glassed that area a lot more after I saw them and got saw nothing. I know I have a lot to learn. This my first time hunting since mid high school and the first time where I am doing everything my self. So I have almost everything to learn prolly. But that's part of the fun right! I am loving being out there, but would love seeing deer even more.

awesome!! congrats! Can't wait till I fill my first archery tag.
  8. Off work in one hour. Then up Mt Lemmon to have BBQ with some friends. Then out to my spot, sleep in the truck and be in the blind before sun up! I am so stoked. Trying to ge tmy first deer ever! I have been waiting for months for this Saturday!!! Deer, here I come!!! Good luck to all you other hunters out this weekend, pig/deer/whatever! Hope you stick a good one!
  9. Yup, I was hit in my Dakota on Christmas morning and just found out yesterday it is totaled. Just waiting for insurance. Right before the 09 deer season!!! grrrrrr! I got a truck to borrow for this Saturday if I am not out buying a new vehicle. I have a blind option or the usual glassing, spot and stalk. Not sure which way I'll go yet. It can never go exactally like you had hopped. Instead of hunting I may have to be buying a new vehicle. oh well, that life right?

    January 1 is almost here!!!

No kididng. I am ver greatful that my fiance and I are ok. The impact was all on her side. only a bruised elbow and some stiffness and soreness for her. God was watching out for us for sure. No I gotta decide between an new 4x4 hunting rig, or a car for the gas mileage. leaning towards 4x4 but I found a killer deal on a very nice car. decisions decisions.

    I'm off!

Well I'm off for a quick trip to our area we found while scouting. Gonna do a little more scouting and try to set up a couple blinds on water and or heavily used trails/trail intersections. Wish us luck is seeing the deer! January 1 is getting here fast and I am so stoked for my first deer season in years!!!!!!
  12. Went to my friends parents where we shoot yesterday to try to broadhead tune and also set my 50 and 60 pins. It was very gusty with a slower constant wind. The wind was at our backs except for the gusts. It made for some good practice but bad tuning. I started at 20 yards with a BH group. Great group just low left. I went to move my rest up and right, following some advice I read here, and found that I could move it up fine but it was already maxed out to the right on the lateral adjustment. Plus, when I draw with the BHs many times a blade will touch/bump/nick the riser. Twice it did this enough to knock the arrow off the rest. Very frustrating! Not sure how to fix that, I need to move my rest left to adjust for this nicking, but right to bring my broadheads in with my field points. I may just sight in with broadheads for the season and get everything to fly together later. I thought about trying a different BH but I just can't afford it. I have good BHs, Muzzy 3 blade 125grn, and they group well and fly well. Not sure what else to do at this point. I'm gonna try BH tuning one more time when it is not windy, but may just have to sight in BH and only use them through January. Any thoughts, or anyone in Tucson wanna go shoot with me and help get in where it should be?

    Accuracy with broadheads part 2

I know sight moves to the shot (opposite direction shots need to go), if i tune rest then to get arrows to go right then rest would go right correct? Just waiting for a calm day that I am free now. I have a PSE Nova, 29", 63# draw, Easton Game Getter AL arrows, don't rememeber spine. A guy in the archery dept at Sportsmans who i know knows his stuff very well told me they were the right ones. 125grn tips, field and bh, also recommended by sportsmans guy. Does your Nova shoot well mine has problems with consistency every now and then. My nova is at 28'',57# draw so far it has been very consistent and accurate. any inconsistencies have been traceable back to my shooting.
  16. Do muzzy 3 blades usually give good accuracy and fly like field points? I was practicing last night and adjusting my pins after a rest adjustment. Got my pins back in good and tried the muzzy a few times. I am getting excellent groups out to 40 yards with field tips. but at 20-30 yards witht he muzzys i took 3 shots. one low left one dead center one low left but not as bad as first. I was using the practice blades, not the sharp ones. Besides obviously needing to shoot more, which I will do tomorrow or Wednesday, is this normal for these broadheads? Almost everyone I talekd to before buying these said theirs shoto liek fieldpoints. All hits were in kill zone but the two not dead center would near the edge. Just looking for insight, thanks!

How far away form the bow and target should the paper be? Should the paper be on the target? And do adjust the rest to correct for what the paper shows is off?
