Ya I've seen that b4. A guy from Payson found it a few years ago. Howd you know the scores Mike, did I send you pics of it b4? I don't remember it being anywhere near that wide though. I'll look for better pics of it.

GET THOSE COUES ANTLERS OUT OF THAT TREE!!!!!!!!!! PUT THEM SOMEWHERE SHADED AND PROTECTED, THAT'S JUST SACRELIGIOUS!!!! Killer pics dude, congrats on all your success!!

Now come on, I do believe you made it out of the truck with at least one nose hair left! Jeez!
-
So did you like it BASS?

No wonder they transplanted some of those sheep over here to 6A this year.... JEEZ!! Great story and pics as usual man, thanks.

The only stink hog in 8 is when I'm up there!

There's no javvies in 8 you ding-dong! Sounds like you got taken by the G&F. There's a reason they call those tags "left over tags". One of these days you'll learn..... or not.

Oh man......... That just totally hurts to look at! Bummer............

Coues trophy for Sale
GRONG replied to hunterofcoues's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I'd give them $20 bucks for it..... but that ain't no Coues. If that was killed in '03, the taxidermy looks like it was done in '73. I'd get my $ back from the taxidermist if my mount came back like that rip off job. -
Oh man that was a fun hunt! Tim was a heck of a sport too. Tracker, we don't hunt bears with them anymore, just lions. Dad used to hunt bears A LOT back in the 60's thru the mid 80's but it was always too hard on his dogs so he gave that up and stuck with the lions. He never did the "rigging" thing, always just cold trailed on the edges of canyons, big drainages and always come up the bottoms of canyons. Funny story.... One time in unit 8 in the early 80's we were all camped on the side of a main road with a huge dead bear hanging in a tree, (this is at night) a group of bear hunters stopped on the road to have a chat with us. These guys had the whole "rig" set up with the dog on the hood and all. We all talked for about a 1/2 hour and none of those dogs barked and that bear was hanging 30 yards from them. Hope they didn't pay too much for those dogs.... LOL! I think I like lion meat better than deer meat too.

Holy crap dude that is way too funny!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought you guys and gals would like to drool over this hunk of bone!!! Wish I could call it mine but it's not. The guy found it last year while elk hunting here in northern AZ. Check out all that trash!! I measured the shed at 61" even!! It's got some serious rodent and elk chewage on it but most of it is there. Most of the damage came to both of the huge drop-tines. I'd guess at least 2" is gone off the first one and about a 1.5" are gone off the 2nd one. I've seen thousands of Coues sheds and this one blew my mind! I've never seen one with the length of cheaters off the back 2 tines! It's rare enough to see one drop-tine but this sucker has two! And kickers..... holy crap! This one has two enormous cheaters off of the G2 and G3. Hoping that the match to it is somewhat similar and giving it a 13" spread the buck would be in the 130-135" range!!!! This buck is probably still walking around somewhere too, that is the cool part!!!!! I'd guess the shed was dropped in '04. I'll add more pics in another post.

Tracker, my dad is the "dogman", I don't know much about the breeds I just try to keep the dogs going in the right direction. az4life, they're my Dad's dogs but that's a real nice compliment. I did get video of it but from quite a ways away.

Tracker, plots, walkers, redbone mix and a couple others. Never heard of Dawson but I bet my Dad has.

Ya my first thought when I saw that pic was BS! heck of a deer but the antlers look photoshopped to me. And the measurements listed are totally bogus if you pick them apart. Those deer in TX aren't a whole lot bigger, bodywise, than our Coues deer(depends on what part of TX they come from though). Would be a heck of a deer if real that's for dang sure!

I talked with Scott Richey, the guy who found the shed, today and he was asking me about trail cameras and stuff. He seemed to be pretty excited about trying to find the deer this coming summer/fall. I sure hope he does, that deer deserves a good honest effort to find him. It'd be tough but the rewards of just getting him on a trail camera would be unreal!

Sounds awesome Bill!!!!

FREAKIN MORONS!!! Field tips on the beak shot goose?!?!?! Good grief!
-
We can only hope that deer is still running around!! I'm gonna try my best to pump the guy for the whereabouts of the deer cause I really don't think he's gonna try to find him. We'll see...... I can dream can't I?

Check out this muley

I'd be launching some carbon his way if I could hold it all together! Dang nice deer.... jeez! -
Keven, All I can say man is just get out there and walk A LOT of miles and watch where you step. From what I've personally found is that finding a Coues shed is quite random up here in the northcentral part of the state. Down south it may be different. Just pay attn and imagine an antler just about everywhere you look. If you find one in an entire day I'd say you're doing ok.

Hey Bill, no that's not me but I know who you're talking about. I usually sit just north down the road, back toward Springerville on the west side of the road. It's a big open area, seems as if they were just building a big building on the south end of that lot I sit at. Sound familiar? I drive a tan 1/2 ton quadcab Dodge and usually have a small 8' trailer in tow. Love to meet and chat with you one of these days.

That's just freakin nuts!!! Congrats!
-
You crack me up younghunter!! CG, no man that's actual 61" of score!! I'm guessing it was probably around 64" or so whole, it's just hard to say how long that 1st drop tine was. SCH, no man I couldn't say if anyone has seen him or not. If I'd seen the buck I wouldn't tell a soul and I'd have 10 trail cameras set out there! Hopefully he hasn't been processed by a lion yet either. Here's another look at those cheaters......
