Well when you're out in the woods with yer offspring you gotta throw them some bait every now and then to keep em interested right? I'd seen this shed shortly after leaving the truck but didn't pick it up cause I wanted ol Isaac to find one. On the way back to the truck after checking cameras I walked him within a foot of it and he still missed it. Called him back and he nearly stepped on it. LOL! You're not gonna catch me admitting how many times I've walked by a shed. Seriously, that's a sensitive subject and I'll never fess up He thought it was pretty awesome. It's a 140+ muley I would guess and was dropped this spring. We made a super small loop and gave up quickly. After all, it's only a muley right? "Wait, what are we lookin for again?" "OH YOU MEAN THIS ONE DAD?!" Last Friday I went out to check cams again and ended up nearly stepping on the match to Isaac's antler about 400 yards away. Went to step over a fallen tree and there it was. Squirrels got to it and chewed some of it up pretty good but luckily they didn't eat on the 10 1/2" flyer off of it!! Pretty sweet!! How ya like the shade I hang out under? I know, total trend setter right?

A longtime dear friend of mine named Rick Corven has a 22yr old daughter named Lauren that has some serious problems with her head and in 20 days of being hospitalized in Phx at Barrows the doctors have absolutely no idea what is wrong with her. It's extremely sad and I just thought it wouldn't hurt to put her in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks for your time everyone...

My buddy and I were out archery hunting in late December and we watched these guys absolutely GET WITH IT!!! They fought for close to 10 minutes as hard as they could fight, it was awesome! Here's a couple minutes of it.

Sure looks like it to me and the last picture is what we call a "lion scratch". A tom's way of marking his territory so to speak.

Photos from 2nd Annual AZ AntlerFest!! AMAZING collection!
GRONG replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Shed Hunting
Yup, what a great time it was!! Amanda, both of those GIANT sets of elk sheds I measured were both right at 430" without a spread and would've been 470+ with the spreads. Simply disgusting amounts of bone! I think this year's fest was better than last year's. It was great seeing other cw.com'ers there. Sure was nice having some after hours kickback time with the few that stayed! Awesome porkchops you had Amanda! I'll post some pics soon as I get em on the 'puter- 16 replies

Come join us again this year at Alan and Shelly Ellsworth's house! Last year was a hit and we're planning on doing it all over again May 11-13th. Last year we just did a one day event but this time we're gonna make it from Fri thru noon on Sunday. Lots of barbecuing, antler showing and BS'ing going on so come join us all! I'll be there to score some antlers and you all can bring your antlers to sell or show off. There's plenty of room if anyone wants to make a display of their stuff and/or sell merchandise too. Here's a few pics from last year Heres a huge muley that was brought in to be measured by Amanda for the B&C record books. I think it scored over 230" Don't miss out! It's a great way to meet other cw.com'ers too. If any changes happen I'll keep you posted and if you have any questions email me or shoot me a text. Josh

It's in Linden just a couple miles west of Show Low on Hwy 260. Go north on Pearce Ln and he's at the very end on the left. You can't miss it!

Always fun takin kids out rackin. Wind was crankin so Isaac hid in his sweatshirt while I glassed for sheds. His eyes lit up when I said, "There's 2 of em!" Two different bull's single shed layin less than 10 yards apart. After takin these pics we walked a short distance away when I spotted another laying below us about 15 yards or so. I stopped and got my camera out and Isaac kept on walking past me and spotted it finally. It was cool that time cause he had no idea there was one there so he technically found that one on his own. He got to steer the quad for about a mile ride on the road in and back out so that made it all the better for him.

First of all I just gotta say that Jim Reynolds is the man! I consider him a good friend and I feel fortunate to get to hunt with him yet again! We had so much fun down south this year, it was amazing. Opening morning my buddy Dave Mathews and I tried a spot I hadn't been to last year and it paid off bigtime! First buck we saw was a big low to mid 90's 2pt!! An absolute stud of a buck for sure! Once at the top of the hill we started seeing deer immediately. Some as close as 200 yards and many many bucks out to a mile. Around 11:00 we watched as about 3 bucks were hot on a doe but one was the biggest for sure. As he ran sideways both Dave and I looked at each other as if we'd just seen a 120" buck. The deer were about 3/4 of a mile away but from the look we got we knew we needed a closer look somehow. The deer were rutting in some really low country with no real way to get any elevation to shoot from. Dave chose to sit on a rock knob about a half mile away and I decided to see what it was like up close and personal. Once I crawled into position into the edge of a big pasture that was about 450 yards wide and about 150-180 yards across and mashed down a 6' square area to sit where I could look both east and west across it and strait to the south less than 200 yards where most of the deer action had been that morning. I hadn't been there a half hour and a buck walked out of the weeds and to my left at 130 yards. I had my video camera set up and was taking video of it. To put this spot into some sort of perspective, it was nearly exactly like sitting on the edge of a field in the midwest somewhere. Not one bit of obstruction to block my views and I just had to sit and wait. Dave radio'd to me and said I bet that big buck comes out right at dark. Needless to say, I had deer activity out in the pasture nearly the entire afternoon. There was a few button bucks, a couple does and the bigger bucks just kept cruising thru. I had bucks from 50 yards as close as 10 yards many times. Here's a few pics to show what what was going on. This is the view I had looking SE across the pasture. All buck pics were taken thru the 15's. Even at 30 yards I was able to get fantastic pictures thru them! This buck just posed for all sorts of pics. So as I'm taking these pictures Dave is callin me on the radio flippin his LID!!! He asked me if I had time to run about a half mile to another clearing because there was an absolute MONSTER of a buck, that he swore would be in the 130's, standing there watching it's doe take a drink. I'm not kidding you when I say he was losing his mind! I couldn't do anything about it cause it was getting dark and I had bucks less than 20 yards from me at the time. What an evening! So it's getting dark and I just had to start packing my stuff in my pack even though I had one buck staring at me from 30 yards away. As I'm nearly done packing and about to leave I catch a glimpse of something across the flat. I snap my head over and here's the big 3x4 from that morning standing there looking around. I threw the gun up on top of my Outdoorsmans pack and held steady. I looked him over for no more than 5 seconds and made the decision to shoot not really even knowing how big the buck was. One shot and he never moved again! This the heaviest buck I've shot at 30 1/2" of mass. It grosses 109 3/8". Here's a pic of both Tim and me with our bucks. We saw lots of bucks in the 105-110 range and a couple in the mid teens we should've shot but didn't or couldn't. COME ON NEXT YEAR ALREADY!!!!!

I'm tellin you all, it was flippin awesome watching those guys go at it! Gonna try to have all of the 5 minutes I got of the fight uploaded by next week. Once the fight was over the big buck finds the doe and runs off the small 2pt. After the fight both bucks stood around for at least 15 minutes exhausted. The big buck was a real heavy 3pt with short points. The lesser buck was a thin horned 2x3. The 2x3 ended up gettin the snot whipped out of him and we could see blood on his lips from gettin horned or from all the brush they plowed over in the process of fighting. The small 2pt that was there ended up getting rattled in and shot at 20 yards about an hour later. I posted pics of my buddy Jimmy with that buck in the archery section a couple weeks ago. I'll post up the full fight soon as I get it back. Here's the other post I referred to Jim's buck
