    Georgia Hunting December 2011

My son Garrett was invited by his girl friend Geneva to hunt on their family's Georgia plantation during the week between Christmas and New Years. On the evening of the 27th he took his first Eastern Whitetail, a nice doe. The morning of the 28th was crazy. Rut crazy bucks were chasing does everywhere. Soon his buck ran by, and he put it down with one well placed shot. Here is a picture of the buck all ready to make the flight back to Tucson then the drive to Stacy Tompkinson's taxidermy shop in St. David. Unfortunately, this was the last mature buck they saw and Geneva was not able to fill her tag. Now Garrett owes her big time! Garrett wants to thank Geneva, her mom Patricia and step dad Ruken for letting him tag along on this trip, and for always treating him so well.

    Hunters find 100k in Pot!

I saw that. They were posing with it like they had just shot a huge deer. With facial recognition software, other technology, and just the network of people who know each other, they should be very concerned. Cartels have killed, on this side of the boarder, for much less.

    advice needed

Go with your gut, but take your cameras with you. That way if the big boy walks by, you won't know.

    Hunters find 100k in Pot!

I know a guy who stumbled into a small camp with several bails of pot in unit 35 B. There was nobody around, but they left a small fire burning and were not far off, probably watching. He was very worried about being shot as he back trailed out of there. Ever since then I have carried a pistol while archery hunting.

Economic impact of mining on forum members

I sure wish I could get some of those scraps for my yard, that stuff is expensive. When I went to buy some, everything I could afford looked like scrap to me.

They never had any hogs come into the stands. The place was thick with them in years past, but the manager has been working hard to bring the numbers down...guess it is working.

There have been deer and pigs throughout those tailings for years. I remember chasing deer in the Anamax property while a friend watched out for the security guards. I also remember a night we packed a beer cooler to the top of the tailings pond to party under the Christmas tree, only to be scared off when a lion was spotted. This was back in the early 80's, I still hear stories of big muleys living on the tailings. I guess they like whatever was planted up there to keep the dust down.

    Lobo/Hybrids

If you divide the cost of the reintroduction program by the estimated number of wolves ( x dogs) you will find each of those wolves is worth almost $200,000. That's an expensive dog in anybody's book!

Economic impact of mining on forum members

According to my dictionary mining is, "To extract (ores, minerals etc.) from the earth." Based on this definition even the gas fired plants rely on mining. This reminds me of a bumper sticker on my dads work truck when I was a little boy. It said, "If you can't grow it, you have to mine it". These are the only ways we can get natural resources in this world.

    2012 pig

Congratulations TJ. I know you love hunting those stinky pigs, and you are very good at it. Glad to see that this year your story of success did not include recuperating for a few days before you head back out.

Thanks for the gift of excellence

We all love this site and many of us spend a lot of of time on it. So many of our members have expertise in different areas, I am starting this post to acknowledge some of those members for their contributions. First is Amanda for creating the best hunting site on the web. This is not an easy task. She has to balance the interests, and emotions of members to promote an effective forum without allowing a few to blow it up. Red Rabbit. Doug has a real gift for photography. He openly shares this gift with us regularly. I often wonder if he has ever taken a bad picture? Chef. Hector is a wealth of information about cooking. He is not just a collection of recipes, but really understands the science behind the taste. Bill Quimby and Tony Mandile. These two have not only experienced decades of Arizona hunting, but they have recorded it and often share with all of us. They serve as the unofficial historians of this site. Lark. Some of the posts get pretty involved. Lark has the ability to state what many are saying in a way the rest of us can appreciate it. These are just a few of the havens of excellence on this site, I know there are many more. Please give recognition to them.

    Traditional Javalina

It amazes me that anybody can hit a live animal with traditional stuff. I would have better luck just trying to stab them with an arrow. Congratulations!
