That kid has a lo of motivation to back up his smarts. -
Stay in the blind dark to dark. Bring food and drink. I repackage food from original noisy wrappers to ziplock sandwich bags. I do use a pee bottle. If your blind is in an open area with lots of opportunity to see the animals coming in, reading a book is a great way to pass the time. However, if you are in thick cover, with limited sight and limited shooting lanes, stay ready all the time. Coues will just appear and then disappear so quickly you will wonder if they were really there.

That's a beautiful, matched buck. Let us know how it goes. Good luck.

That is my problem, I love food.

I have been doing the 30 Day Shreader program with that horrible lady Jillian. She must be married, always talking, always yelling...never shuts up long enough to listen. She is not even nice about it. Stand up...get down ...stand up...it was like the worst Catholic wedding ever! But it works -
Wow! That's a stud buck!

Chap, great story. One thing you will learn as you grow as a hunter is neverNEVERNEVER, tell the story without having pictures! Can't wait to see them! Congratulations on bagging an archery goat!

Thanks for your well written post. Although I don't agree with all your points, I appreciate the professional and respectful tone you use in presenting the information. Other parts of your post, such as the idea that as we become more efficient in killing animals threfore opportunity will be limited, I do agree with. However, I don't see limiting opportunity as the worst of all options. Bull elk hunting opportunities are very limited compared to coues, but they are still great hunts. I believe this is in part because the chance of killing a great bull is very good. Welcome to this forum, I hope you will continue to share your knowledge and experience.

Quite a spot you have there. Thanks for sharing.

Dale, thanks for reminding us to prepare for after the kill.

How exciting...calling in a lion. Congratulations!

Young ones herding cows this early is a good sign. The big boys have played this game before. They will let the young ones do the herding work, then walk in, kick butt, and take the ladies. Might be a good rut!

Would like to see a pic that shows his width. Looks like he might pass the 110 mark.

This would be hilarious if it were not true. They are not illegal immigrants, they are undocumented democrats!

Whitetails are found in most of the unit. Much of the muley habitat has coues in it. There is not a part of the unit where you do not have to be careful and make sure of the species.

Great looking buck, congratulations.

Access is only a problem if you want to drive everywhere in the Mules. If you are willing to take the "foot shoe-leather express" there is plenty of areas to hunt. Coues are found in most parts of the unit.

Our elk hotspot has a lot of relatively small pastures with cross fencing. There are always a lot of cows in the area, but also a lot of elk. The frustrating part is when the rancher schedules a round up on opening weekend. These roundups usually have 10 to 20 riders pushing cattle throughout the area. This has happened to us twice during the archery season.
