Jim is correct. There are a lot of bulls in easily accessible areas, however, there are a lot of hunters also. If you don't mind hunting with company, you don't need to walk too far. However, if you get a mile or two from the roads, you can be all by yourself. Last year, I hunted 10 days, all day long. In that time, I ran into one other hunter in the field. I was working a bull in some thick stuff and the hunter came to see what was going on. He walked into the open at 25 yards, and then saw me. He waved and said "hello". The bull I was working thundered off. It was within about 50 yards. This hunter did nothing wrong, but I just don't do well in those situations. I am willing to hike past some bulls, and some hunters to have a place to myself. The post Coach made on this thread is great. He has captured the essence of the hunt, not just the kill and the score. Good luck on the hunt. You have drawn the best possible tag in my opinion. I will be up there for part of the season, just enjoying the experience.

Get good boots. Plenty of area in 1 to get away from people, but you will have to work at it. You might also want a good pack to haul him out.

Checked my cams this morning, 4/1. Nice whitetail. Happy April Fools.

And just what is a $90 permit??? I was a little worried at first. I had this mixed up with a $50 youth tag. I was thinking ...cradle robber!

My son has found quite a few sheds this year. This one looks a little different. It is a medium size typical 6. It was fresh, whit some blood on the base. Also around the base of the pedicel is a line of some kind of metal looking material. It looks like foil. Has anyone ever seen this before? This picture does not show it well but you can see the ring running all the way around the edge. It is shiny and plyable.

What is the most efficient way to learn a new unit?
Pine Donkey replied to SHeap's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Nothing beats boots on the ground, elevation, good glass and patience. -
Thanks for the info. This is the first I had seen, but this one is also fresher than most I have found.

It is where the hide meets the antler, but it is definitely metallic.

Smallest deer ever!

If you get a closer look you would see the only have one horn. They are not coues, but actually are dwarf unicorns. -
Come on WW, let's keep it clean.

That looked like one of those pretty "city" trucks. This may have been the first time he took it off road.

It seems that riots based on sporting events have become part of our culture. It happens across the country and even world. When it happens those idiots involved get a slap on the wrist and 15 minutes of fame. This motivates idiots to rationalize the need to riot...now they are rioting over an elite 8 game...where will it stop. I say lock up everyone that was arrested and fine the heck out of them. Also charge them for all related costs; sorta like the stupid motorist law that charges those who get caught in a wash. Hit a college student with a $50k fine for being caught while being stupid. Pretty soon, rioting would not be so cool. It's a game you juvenile idiots! This is nothing compared to the realities of life outside of college. Grow up and become a productive part of our society!

Good Rifle For My Girlfriend

Dagnabit...I had a couple good rifles I would have traded for her! -
Current projections have Gordon going 16 and Johnson going 36. Johnson is pack 12 player of the year. One more year will not raise his stock much. Gordon could rise higher with another year, but there is not a huge difference between a 16 and say a 6 or so. One knock against Gordon is his age. He will not be 19 until September. Most kids his age are seniors in high school. I think they will both go this year. Hopefully the new recruits will be like Gordon and Hollis-Jefferson rather that the highly touted flop that Josiah Turner was.
