Tractor supply is a good store, so is Cal Ranch. If those places sold groceries I wouldn't need to shop anywhere else.

Rare gray wolf seen at Grand Canyon may be dead
Pine Donkey replied to down2hunt's topic in The Campfire
I am willing to bet that at least one more wolf will make this "incredible journey" to the delight of many fruit cakes. The article mentioned that biologists had been trying to replace the wolf's collar, but we're not successful. I wonder how many tax dollars were spent on this effort? The hunter should receive an accomodation because now it is easy to replace that collar...it will also be real easy to track this wolf. -
My thoughts: McCain is a D-bag. I have little trust of either party in congress. This is another emotional based, one-sided, biased article by the liberal Star. What land is this being swapped for? Our state needs to strengthen the job base in wealth generating industries such as mining, logging, manufacturing and ranching. Many of the tribes who are objecting would not hesitate to put a casino on this land if they had the opportunity.

Both my wife and daughter drew November Bull tags in 27. Since the fire we tend to find elk the same way we find coues...sitting behind a pair of 15's. My wife Chrystie had a heart attack a few weeks ago so I was not even sure this hunt would happen. Last week, her cardiologist cleared her and even thought the hiking would be good for her. I don't think he had any idea of the mountains she was going to climb while carrying a pack. Friday morning found us amongst several bulls, but things did not come together. During the midday we glassed a decent bull bedded near the top of a mountain. Laurie took off with her brother Garrett, boyfriend Charles and his dad. The climbed a peak across from the bedded bull. After some glassing, Charles spotted an antler amongst the dead trees. They set up the 7mm mag, dialed in the turrets and waited for him to stand up at 634 yards. After what seemed like forever, the bull stood up, two well placed shots and Lauries tag was filled. The rest of the day was spent quartering and packing meat. Saturday found us glassing a high ridge that held a lot of mature bulls. At about noon Chrystie and Garrett headed up the ridge trying to get above a group of five Bulls that included a nice 6 point and a real stud of a bull. Two hours, and 800 vertical feet later, they were standing above the bulls as they fed across the ridge. The big bull was not visible so when this bull stepped into the open, Chrystie put two .270 bullets into his boiler room. The pack out was a rough one, but thanks to the help of several friends we were done by 8:00.

Great bucks! Sounds like you all had a great time. Thanks for posting the video. -
Each year I re-read this post before cooking our Christmas prime rib. This is sort of a gift from Chef to all us wanna-be chefs, so I wanted to bring it back to the current posts. Merry Christmas everyone!

It's been a long time since I changed a tire in the field. Do whatever is needed to limp it in and take it to a tire shop. I keep slime, a plug kit and a foot pump under the back seat. Those three items will usually get you going again unless you just destroy the tire. One time I put a rock or something through a sidewall. After looking at the hole, I decided my best option was a mesquite stick wrapped in a piece of t-shirt soaked in slime. I drove the stick in with a rock, aired it up and let the tire shop do the rest. It held for the fifteen mile drive to pavement and 10 miles to town. This was during an August hunt in the desert. Driving a bit slower in air conditioning is way better than changing a tire on a mountain road.

It all depends on the situation...terrain, time of day, other deer in the group, rifle or archery, which rifle I have in my hand at the time (if rifle hunting), etc. In general, if I am going to move on a deer bedded or feeding, I try to put a ridge between us. If archery hunting, I usually watch them bed then make a move.

Please pray for TJ!! He was in a bad quad accident!
Pine Donkey replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Prayer Requests
The thing to remember about TJ is that he has eaten so much Javilina that her is as tough as those little critters. Neither mountain nor quad are tough enough to keep a man like TJ down for long. He might take his lumps along the way, but mark my words, he will soon be chasing pigs with bow in hand. Peg is the only force of nature that might be stronger than TJ. -
Very nice. Congratulations!

Great buck Colleen! Thanks for posting the story and pictures.

Dang, I was too slow...great deal!

Wow, congratulations on a serious stud of a bull!

You need to post a picture of your wife before people will decide if they want to trade a pistol for her! Haha

Yep, those are from your neck of the woods. We taped Chrystie's bull at just over 320. Check out the video I just posted on another thread and I am sure you will pinpoint where Lauries bull was taken.

You have again outdone yourself! Merry Christmas to you and Peg.
