My parent's place made it through without damage, just needed a good cleaning to remove ash and soot. The meadows around Nutrioso have a lot of elk in them right now, including a lot of babies. One afternoon, about 1:00 I saw over 300 elk within a five mile stretch. Many of them have been staying in the meadows all day long rather than bedding in the timber. I guess it is just easier for them since there is nothing left to eat as they walk through the timber. I think the heards made it through without too much loss, now they are congregated near anything green. The rains have started, and soon the grasses will grow. Place will never look the same, but with rain healing will begin.

NTS, That first picture is pretty typical of the areas I saw around the burn; they dont look real bad if you look straigt ahead, but if you look up, theres not much left. Glad to see your dad's place made it. I am amazed at all the places that were saved. A lot of dedicated fire fighters worked hard to bend the lines around the structures.

We gave it to him for Christmas 08 when he first bought his 300WM . Shortly after that he upgraded to a Vortex, this scope has sat in the closet ever since. Now he is buying a new rifle and needs a smaller scope.

Lark, So were you trying to get pictures of a whitetail?

Great looking mount!

Mark, That turned out great. I knew it would with Stacey mounting it. I am sure glad you shot before Garrett, that saved me a couple grand. Many are impressed with Jodi's Buck, but you failed to mention how far up a very steep rough slope she was when she shot that deer. Not to mentioned the cold! Not many pregnant women would do that.

dang! I still did not get drawn!

Not hard to see that a 16 year old kid who likes in the woods has much more understanding than the feel good enviro-terrorists from the big cities!

My parents had to evacuate their home in Nutrioso due to the Wallow fire on June 2nd. No problem, they just returned to their other home in Ramsey Canyon outside of Sierra Vista. Now they have been evacuated from that home! Lets pray for rain!!!

Brian, Thanks for posting these pictures. They are heartbreaking, yet it brings some optimism to see that not everything was nuked. From what I saw in Alpine on the 2th, I can't believe there is anything left, especially the houses. Many thanks to the dedicated professionals on the ground who were able to salvage a little bit of God's country.

The forest sevice is in their 45 day public comment and review period for their draft environmental impact statement on the use of fire retardant. This is mandated out of a US district Court in Montana...Yes I said Montana, not San Francisco WASHINGTON, May 13, 2011 -- In response to a 2010 court decision, the U.S. Forest Service released a draft environmental impact statement today that will help inform the agency's decision whether to continue aerial application of fire retardant and, if so, under what conditions. I can't tell you how pissed I am to read this with all that is going on Please go to the link for public comment: http://www.fs.fed.us/news/2011/releases/05/fire-retardant.shtml This is no joke!
