Pine Donkey replied to Couzer's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Those are a couple of studs...i am referring to the deer, not the brothers -
Ever since I raised the amount of life insurance I have, I have been real careful to keep my wife happy whenever she is around weapons! I would never temp her by standing infront of her when she is holding a bow:D Great costume!

Sunrise found Mark (MJE1) and I sitting behind binoculars in the top of the Dragoon mountains. This area has produced some studs over the years. It is rough but beautiful country. Mark has a tag for next weekend.

30B might not be the greatest unit, but it is the unit we live in. We have done pretty well each year by putting our time into it. We scout year round, and have multiple cameras out. Here is a sampling of what we are after this year. The problem I have with shooting a deer like this is that I have a hard time keeping my finger off the trigger when a smaller, nice racked buck stands up.
-
You do recognize this area. It is Slaven basin as seen from Soren's pass. There have always been lions in this area as well as the entire unit, but there are some good deer here also. The secret to hunting this unit, as with many southern units is glass, glass, glass. Remnants of the old wooden chute can still be found, but it was not a water chute, it was an ore chute. It was used to get the ore from the Abril Mine, off the mountain. The Abril was a lead/zink mine that was last operated in the early 50's. Once the ore was off the mountain it was trucked out through the Slaven Basin. The base of these mountains are always popular with hunters who want to stay close to the road, campers and hikers. This tends to push the deer to the rougher country.

My son Garrett is always taking poeple out hunting. Last weekend it was Jonathan, a friend from school. Jonathan had never shot a deer before. Garrett put him on a couple other bucks, but Jonathan could not seal the deal until Sunday afternoon.

278 yards. This was off of Garrett's tripod mount he and a friend made.

Kind of a spooky looking lion.

Great shot! -
Our wild game animals are a natural resource that is managed through sound conservations practices (ideally). One of the tools of management is to HARVEST animals. How do we harvest them, we KILL them. Harvest is a conservation term, killing is a hunting term. I use both depending on the context of the conversation. What I do not do is attemp to make some tree huggin vegan fell better by hiding, sugar coating, or makeing PC comments. I have a passion for harvesting, killing, and eating wild animals. If someone has a problem with that; tough!
