What I read was "Shiflet faces three charges, each of which carries a maximum penalty of six months in prison and a $5000 fine, if convicted. I too got away with a lot at that age, which could have been a disaster. But I also learned some hard lessons and had to pay the price. This is one of those hard lessons. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, or killed. No homes lost. I feel for the rancher though. He's a good man. He had a lot of cattle in there. Hopefully he didn't loose too many.

Looking for good binoc system and rangefinder holder
Viper replied to Coach's topic in Optics and tripods
This bino harness posted last night. I've seen this at Sportsman's and looks like a good product. I would consider this one. You can leave your binos deployed, hooked up on the safty tethers, or wrap them in the cover for protection. Either way, they ride against your chest. The one issue I have with the Badlands pouch is when I leave my binos deployed, hanging on the tethers, it rides on the pouch, way out in front of my chest. Kind of in the way when stalking. Leaving them in the pouch when you need one hand operation doesn't work well. Minor issue, but something to consider. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=33634 -
We saw them from a vantage point, at the scene when it first started. We waited for them to drive out and stopped them to find out what was going on. While I talked to the driver, my buddy got the plate number. They didn't stick around. We waited for the USFS to show up and gave them the info.

Vortex Ranger 1000 Rangefinder
Viper replied to Jay Scott's topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
That's good info...thanks!! Anyone have experience with the Nikon Rifle Hunter 1000? Similar results? -
These are the guys me and my buddy stopped that morning and got there plate number. Glad to see the investigation ended with an arrest. I'm sure he'd prefer a kick in the nuts instead of what's ahead. Probably hasn't had much sleep since that morning.

Not yet in Mesa. Just a few "spits" on the windshield.....soon.

+1 I just got the Vortex Ranger, and love it. A range finder without Angle Compensation is a thing of the past, true horizontal shooting distance is what your after in the field. Whatever you buy, go angle compensated. Any chance that you could post a review of the Vortex. Not much online yet. I got my hands on it Sunday at Sportsman's....they finally got a few in. The read-out is really bright and the size is compact. I am interested in whether you can range a deer at 600 yrds, hand held. And if it will range a black object, my Leupold won't.

Looking for good binoc system and rangefinder holder

I have the Range Snap too. It's great! I have my range finder in it's pouch, attached to my pack, until I get into hunt mode. Then I snap it to the Range Snap, which is attached to my Badlands Bino pouch. The pack may be left behind on a stalk, but the bino pouch is always on me, so I don't forget the range finder. The Badlands Bino pouch is great!! It is rain proof and dust proof.....but not affardable now. They were running $60, but now are $130!!! The optics guy at Sportsman's told me that the China manufacturer is screwing Badlands over the magnetic closure so the price doubled. -
Vortex Ranger 1000 Rangefinder

Anything more on your review? I got my hands on one yesterday at Sportsman's. Very nice, compact. Very bright display. I am eager to dump my Leupold RXII. It is inconsistent at what it will range, sometimes has trouble if it is windy. Will not range a black target. I am interested to know if the Vortex can range a deer at 600 yards, hand-held, and will it range a black object. Thanks, Brad -
This is a kit-type computer desk in an oak finish, good shape. Has slide away keyboard/mouse tray, PC tower closet, two drawers and file drawer. $50 obo. Located at Val Vista & Southern, Mesa area. If interested, reply to this add or PM. Thanks, Brad

Wow! Awsome and unique! Looks like some spike bull elk in the gene pool. -
The map helps. So the north Mazatzal Wilderness is open......but the burn area is most likely still closed (southern portion). Barnhart should be open then. I need to get my camera from the burn area...what's left of it. Gonna have to wait for rain.

I would like to load 24k topos onto my Garmin 400t gps. I am interested in the free topo maps at gpsfiledepot.com. Anyone tried them? They appear to be more detailed than the Garmin upgraded 24k maps for $100. Any issues with them? Brad

I have my eye on the Vortex Ranger 1000. IMO angle compensation is a must. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=33338

the USFS may cite you for pounding nails or screwing pegs into a tree. They are getting serious about this. We have used ladders that assemble in 4' sections, strapped to the tree with ratchet straps and one chain wrapped around the tree/ladder and pad-locked. It is harder to carry to your spot, but a little safer than pegs. I am considering the ladder stand which is all one unit....or just a pop-up ground blind.

I could bring it into work, at Chandler Blvd and Rural.......does that help?

I got my Oct 2011 coues mount back a couple weeks ago, from Mogollon Taxidermy in Payson. Clay did an outstanding job! I don't see any flaws/fixes anywhere on this mount. I am very pleased. Thanks Clay! Brad

Looks like a short barrel...maybe the picture? Will it take 3" shells? What choke? I am interested in a turkey gun.

What choke? I am in the market for a decent turkey gun.

I gross scored it at 111. The SCI scorer at Sportsman's Warehouse scored it at 113 2/8. It's by far the best trophy I've taken....I can't quit looking at it.

We drive threw there around 11 am and 5 pm and there was no fire at the base of the peaks or any where I was able to see. I will be following this one as well, I hunt those hills where the sunflower fire is burning. From what I could see yesterday there was 2 sections of active fire. The heaviest was moving maybe a mile north west of the mt ord turn off moving north east. I hunt those hills too. As a matter of fact, my buddy and I was there Saturday morning to check his trail camera (on the way to Payson to pick up my deer mount). We drove down the Sycamore Road to 201 just as the fire looked like a good size campfire, but dark smoke and high flames. We drove down the blacktop to get a look up Sycamore Canyon and saw a vehicle parked at the scene with 4 or 5 guys out scampering around, then they jumped in the vehicle and tore out of there up the 25 road. We drove up 201 to the junction and waited for them. I stopped them and my buddy got the vehicle description and liscence #. It was 5 young guys in their 20's. They said they camped there last night (Friday). We asked if they put out their fire, and they claimed they did. Then they took off to the highway. We waited for the Forrest Service Ranger to get there and gave them the info. There was also two other witnesses that saw another vehicle with the one we saw. Within 30 minutes of reporting it, there was already a slurry tanker, hellicopter/bucket, and Hot Shot crew on the scene. The fire was already across Sycamore Creek and headed NW up the ridge.....maybe 10 - 15 acres. We went to Payson and back in 2 hours. The wind had shifted to a west wind (blowing east) and looked to be a few hundred acres. It's a real shame! This area wasn't affected much by the last fire (6 years ago?). It had a lot of mature junipers, pinions, and oaks. hopefully they can hold the 201 and keep it from running to the highway. It's a dang shame one careless act is going to cause a lot of damage. You guys did all you can. From a hunter to another from those hills thank you for doing what you guys did. From last glacé of the fire maps it looks to be running west now as well as moving pretty good north. Hopefully they can get some lines at pine mountain. Yup, It's up on top and west of Mormon Grove, in the wilderness area. It burned over the AZ Trail, up to Saddle Mountain and to the south, southwest through Sheep Creek and up onto Black Mesa. If it continues south off of Black Mesa it will get the power lines. I have a trail camera a couple miles into the wilderness area...that I probably won't be able to get to for a very long time.

I am looking at the 450t as well. There are several negative reviews regarding the screen being hard to see in sunlight. Is this an issue with older versions, or is it not bad enough to be an issue? I like the idea of a touch screen and a bigger screen. Also, I understand the pre-loaded topos are at a useless scale. Purchased 24k scale is much better. Truth?
