Passing of Olga Campos from Broken Arrow Archery
Viper replied to BowNut's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Oh wow, that is sad to hear. They are good people. Our prayers are with Robert and family. -
If you apply online your license # will pop up after you enter your info and get into the process. Good luck though...the site kept crashing on me last night. I had to do it at 4:30 this morning.

I don't know much about AR's but I was thinkin'....No wonder they have some available!

I have 2005 Arctic Cat 500 quads that are carb'd and have no issues on the rim or in the White Mnts. They start right up and run great. You may have to re-jet if you take them to Colorado...above 10,000 feet, but you won't have any trouble in AZ. Arctic Cat is a solid product. I am looking hard at this deal, as I am thinking of going to a side x side.

Flatlander, Thanks for the info! Very nice of you to take the time to help all these folks. I hope I have the chance to buy you a beer sometime. I put in for 1) 5B-S early archery bull, 2) 22-S Nov archery bull, 3) 22-N Nov archery bull. It will be a big change hunting elk out of the rut, but maybe I will be hunting elk none the less. Both those Nov hunts had a 90% draw rate.
-
Yeah, and I believe 22N late archery runs in the mid-90%....hummm. Just can't imagine hunting elk with no bugles
-
Question: Do the draw odds posted in the regs account for the bonus pass and 1st/2nd choice pass combined? Wondering what is the best pick with 3 bonus points. I prefer early archery but may consider other options...rifle, muzzy, late archery...

Looking to get a new spotter... Need pointers

I started with a Nikon Prostaff. It was useless, especially with heat waves or low light. I found a Zeiss 65mm on Craigslist in the west valley for $950. It is much much better. Resonable weight/size too. Sometimes I just carry a doubler for my Leica 12's. It works well if conditions are right (clear, decent light, little heat waves). With glass, you get what you pay for. With the $500+ scopes you may not be able to count points, but you can at least tell if it's a buck and whether it has a decent size frame....move closer for a good look. -
Wow! This is a great post! God works through us in ways we don't know. Coach, you have stirred a lot of hearts with this post. I for one have not searched my heart in quite a while. It caused me to reflect a while before replying, as I have been "down in the valley" for a long while. Obviously your heart is in the right place and the Spirit is prodding you to draw closer to God, or you wouldn't have laid your heart out on this public forum. It takes guts to do that. I like the hunting senario posted previous. We put forth great effort to get from valley floor to a special glassing spot high on the mountain. We strap on all the gear, we hike for a mile or more, stubbling over rocks and obsticals, getting scratched and tangled in cat claw. But we keep climbing, nearly busting a lung, to reach our prize....the best glassing point in the area. We feel a great sense of accomplishment and enjoyment. Eventially, we must return to the valley and back to our daily grind. But we dream of doing it again. We condition and excercise more to make the next trip easier, maybe upgrade some gear. Then we do it again. It's not much different in our spiritual life. We seem to give a lot of attention and effort to our physical life...work, entertainment, sports, hunting... and when we don't get the results we hoped, we make adjustments....more cardio, work out more, better gear, further education, more batting cage.... But for some reason we have our spiritual life in auto-pilot, and when things aren't going well, we blame God. Reading the bible, praying, gathering with other believers, etc. is spiritual excercise. If we don't "work out" we will fail to complete the race. I love that poem posted previous. It's all about staying the course and finishing the race. I may be bruised, banged up, and torn up by cat claw but by God...I have the best glassin' spot in the area!! Amanda, I truely believe God blesses what a true believer puts his/her hand to. Most likely you had no idea how huge this CWT following would be when you created this site. I sense there are a lot of believers/good folks on this site. It feels like family. There is some good ministry going on here. This post is a case in point. Thanks Amanda, and the others that make it happen.

Believe me, over 30 years of marriage I have tried everything. And over 30 years of marriage she has developed less of an interest. It aint happenin'. She likes her "me time" (shopping) when I'm gone.

No pack ever created will get my wife out on a hunting trip....unless it has built in massagers....maybe.

Way to go Rob! What a great looking buck! Long beams and great mass. Cool that you have pics of him too. Clay did a perfect job on mine...can't go wrong. Brad

I only caught the last 5 mins of it. When is it on again?

I hunt across the highway. I've seen all sorts of vehicles go up the Mazatzals.... BMW (ripped open tranny on cattleguard), Mercedes (got stuck in the deep snow, had to be towed off by chained up tow truck), Lincoln Continental (with four drug cartel looking dudes), various other passenger cars. I just scratch my head and think WTH. I've had trail cams in the area with no trouble (other than having one burn in the fire), but they are way in off the beaten path. I only spend $100 on a camera + $30 box. If I left a ground blind out there, I'd hide it real good...not leave it set up. There are all sorts of folks in those mountains, mostly along the roads. I've heard from several sources that illegals poach a lot of deer in that area. In this tough economy people will find all kinds of ways to make money....not necessarily hunters stealing cameras.

They work well. I have the big fingerless with mitten fold over and the mid-weight ones. Both work well, but the mitten style is a bit bulky. Be sure to practice with them on to find out any issues before you get into the field.
-
The boxes will fit the covert 3.0 and 4.0 cameras. Just have to stuff something behind the camera to fill the space. I use a 3" piece of radiator hose. And cut off the plastic loop on top of the camera.

Got it....Droid X. I had to go to Settings - Applications - Unknown sources (check this).

GoPro to Spotting Scope?
Viper replied to AxisWorks LLC's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
You should still be able to get a higher mag image with it, but may still have the circular image, as the camera zoom elliminates that. GoPro is wide angle, so the image may have a fish-eye effect. Let us know how it works out.
