What is recommended rings/bases for Vortex Viper 44mm on Rem 700 LA?
Viper replied to Viper's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I went with the DNZ medium height 20 moa. Pretty easy mounting. They claim it doesn't need lapping, but I did anyway. It appears it needed it. I had to slightly grind the rail end under the magnification ring for good clearance. I haven't shot it yet, so the jury is still out. (Can't figure out how to flip this image with my tablet) -
Sizes please. Mine are worn out. Thanks

I love my Trinovids...and their over 10 years old. I can't imagine that Vortex is better, but I haven't looked through the Razors.

I sent you a PM

I put in for 4B...I think 3rd choice. 5B-S and 5A for 1st and 2nd. Only 5 points, so I'm not making any definite plans.

They work great for me. The subscriptin saves you money. It's 10% off, free shipping, and you choose the delivery frequency.

It looks like the sides are open on that one too.

I also use the Kuiu for my Leica 12x50s. It is lighter weight and more compact than my Badlands, but doesn't keep debris out, a little bit gets in. The other thing I don't care for is the lack of upper attachment to the compartment when you unclip the binos to put on a tripod. I may make a modification for that. The Badlands is great in every way except the weight and bulk. It is excellent for keeping the dust/debris out and storage of extra, small items. It dependson what you want in a harness system. It's kinda like trying to find the perfect concealed carry holster....you`ll end up trying several.

^^^That's what I use ^^^. It is multipurpose. I use it as a walking/glassing stick, fully extended, and it is ready to go for a standing shot. I also use it as a rear rest, fully collapsed. December I used it this way, sitting position, with my upright pack as the front rest, polecat for rear rest. It was a little too tall so I had to lean it rearward a bit. It was very steady....enough to shoot my buck bedded at 375 yds.

They'd be great for clearing brush around your trail cam ;-)

Regarding the DNZ, I like the idea of the double scope mount screws (4 screws per ring) Tactical model, but they are kind of hard to find...maybe not as popular. Is it necessary, or is the single screw design (2 screws per ring) more than adequate? It is going on a .270, so not much recoil. -

Thanks! This looks like the simpler way to go. Should be a solid setup with less attachment points. They also have a 20 moa version. -
A 405" pose The taxidermist should have customer's mounts to use as examples, or a picture book.

So, is aluminum ok? I would think if you have steel rings, you would want a steel base to prevent damage to the softer base. Also, is the different expansion/contraction properties (CTE) of steel receiver vs aluminum base/rings worth considering? I do want to keep weight down, but how much weight difference is there between steel and Al?...ounces, right? I would like to keep total cost under $150...preferably under $100. But I don't want a weak setup either. The options are mind boggling. -

Thanks for the replies! I only have this one rifle for hunting and probably won't be tinkering. Once it's set up to my liking, it stays put. Will a 20 moa rail vs 0 moa rail change my cheek/eye position much?....(showing my ignorance)....or is it the ring height only. -
I am seeing coues and pigs on my salt this winter.
