Viper replied to Viper's topic in Antelope Hunting
Thank you all for the advice/recommendations! He will be scouting it this weekend, then heading back up a couple days before the hunt. -
^^^ this is the simplest/quickest way to go.

This is what I use with my Samsung S7. I scroll through my pics just to check them out while I have a snack. I swap cards and bring it home for download. I use it on my laptop to download as well. I got it at Sportsmans for $8. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Stealth-Cam-Memory-Card-Viewer-for-Android/2205702.uts?productVariantId=4513125&WT.tsrc=PPC&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=04377372&rid=20&gclid=CjwKCAjwxJnNBRAMEiwA8X_-QeFIKuHVYGuSrUGzOJSiFPPlf7cGg3awlREkcoBOp9bB5bz5sG0nLhoCbGMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I have a Zodi...larger model. It fits across a double burner Coleman stove. It has copper tubing coiled inside the housing the water runs through. The pump was D-battery operated, but didn't have enough power to push an adequate flow up over 6 feet. So I use a RV pump with alligator clips to a 12v RV battery...very good pressure. It's great because you can turn off the head and the backpressure stops the pump...so you can regulate how much water you use. Only one PROBLEM. When the water stops flowing through the heater coils, pressure builds up and will blow off a hose. So now I recirculate 3 or 4 gallons in a 5 gallon bucket until it is the desired temperature, then turn off the stove. Takes about 15 minutes to heat up a few gallons. Setup time is about 10 minutes. I also use the same 12v battery to light my tent with a 12v trouble light, instead of a lantern.

A couple weeks ago I watched a bear bust a coues doe out of her bed. Seemed like he was hunting her. He ran after her for no more than 50 yards and gave up.

For pants, on the rifle hunt, I usually wear Carhart double front. Not light weight, and you have to be careful to not get them wet, but very durable and catclaw proof.

The kuiu road show semi truck will be in the Phoenix area middle of October, I think. You can try it on and buy. I have some of the kuiu stuff. I'm in Mesa. You can check it out if you want. I'm 5'11" and 170 lbs.

I have set up my 12x12 alaknak by myself several times. Takes 20 to 30 minutes. The time consuming part is driving all the stakes...good workout though. It's worth it for multiple days. The wood stove is nice to have, but I don't use it much. You'll need the roof protector if you use the stove. I also have the vestibule, which adds a lot of room. I also have a kodiak for 1 or 2 days...much easier to set up. They are both great, quality tents.

"And I'm still in the market for a pad...." If you are going with an inflatable, be sure it is insulated. Even a good bag won't work well on an uninsulated air pad...at least not for me. But I sleep kinda cold. If you're only taking one change of cloths, you better have decent rain gear. The technical "mountaineering-type" clothing is best (Kuiu type). It is light weight, wicks away your sweat, and dries fast. Most good stuff has a DWR (water resistant) coating, which works well in light rain. It aint cheap though.

The only experience I have with the new version of PW is my sis-n-law's. Her's is a 2012 I believe. Great truck. Gets around 12mpg. I wish they offered it with a diesel...but apparently there isn't enough room, with the integrated winch...and that would incresse price. I think it is way over capable for what the average hunter needs. You get into stuff it's capable of, you'll probably beat it up. My 2014 Ram diesel handles pretty rough obstacles as is. Regarding the seat comfort, get the luxury package upgrade...it makes a difference. I've never been a dodge fan. This is my first. I must say, I am impressed. Back in 1979 I drove a freinds 1960-something PW for a while. Now that's a piece of impressive machinery...tank, tractor, chuckwagon all in one truck.

Another option....rent. REI rents backpacking equipment for pretty cheap. It's a way to try before you buy.

Best Frame Pack For A Backpack Mule deer hunt
Viper replied to Coues Archer's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
I have the older Outdoorsman pack. I've packed out 50 - 60 lbs with it. Great pack. Very adjustable. But it's 7+ lbs and I have trouble keeping it on my narrow hips. Maybe if I tried their lumbar attachment it would be better. Also it feels kind of big on a skinny guy. I went to the Kuiu 3200 last year. Love this pack! I packed out 85 lbs over very rough country and rode great. No soreness the next day. I smile each time I put it on. I also got the 5200 bag for backpacking but haven't used it yet. I did an overnighter with the 3200 and it was pretty stuffed full. I've also used the Kelty Cache Hauler frame. Very good support, and comfortable, but I find the solid aluminum frames to restrictive...like your back is in a splint. The flexible carbon composite frames are the way to go. I have no experience with the expensive packs mentioned above, but I think the best bang for your buck is Kuiu...barely edging out Outdoorsman -
Cut it off to get it out of the way, and use your middle finger. It's an ELK TAG!

Wow! Spectacular! Awesome job

Mine did something like that in 2005, one year after I bought it new. Covered by waranty...but I think there was a recall.
