Newbie neck tension confusion
Viper replied to Calebwalter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I don't have a ball mic either, only calipers. I do what I can with that. I think my neck thickness measurements are close enough. I also run a .262" pin gage through each neck (poor man's mandrel). -
Newbie neck tension confusion

The bushing size depends on what brass you're using. You have to figure in the neck wall thickness. I use Hornady brass which is around .014" thick. I use a .289 bushing to get around .003" tension. Ex: .264 + .014 + .014 = .292 .292 - .289 = .003" tension -

I used a couple kitchen cabinets and counter top from our kitchen remodel. It works great for the tight space I have available.

I have an opportunity to go on my nephew's Idaho backpack bear hunt in a few weeks. I will fly to Seattle to start our trip. Question is, what is the best way to travel with a large backpack with gear? I have a Kuiu 5200 and typical backpacking gear. Not sure I want to check it as baggage. May get all beat up, broken straps/buckles... Is it too big to be a carry on? Maybe break it down and pack in a suitcase? Definitely would want to "carry on" my binos and spotting scope. How do you all do it? Thoughts? Thanks

Had an opportunity to go to Alaska and fish the Kenai River. My first time to Alaska. It was awesome! Brought back 53 pounds of Sockeye salmon. My son put together this video for me. I'm a rookie at making a video, so bare with me.

I also fished the Kenai River for the first time. Was there July 13th - 20th. It was awesome! Brought back 53 pounds of salmon. Went to Homer but did not fish.

Hearing protection for the shot?
Viper replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
They had a "buy one get one half off" last year. My son and I split the cost. They have worked well for pistol and rifle (with a brake), and at the range with others shooting. I would buy again, and consider the wireless. -
Check the price on the Ozark Trails at Walmart. I bought one a few years ago and was really impressed with it. It has held up great. I just stake the feet with tent stake nails and guy down the corners. Get the straight leg version or the actual shade dimension is reduced.

I have a set of Axil's. They work great at the range. Noise canceling, amplifying, Bluetooth to phone. They also have a wireless set. I intend to try them this season for hunting. https://goaxil.com/products/gx-extreme?variant=33887794561083&tw_source=google&tw_adid=646241365368&tw_campaign=19621004338&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwtZK1BhDuARIsAAy2Vzu34PqXemUfrGGufVoNekugVdfZJgpSnHIiKBZKrYUrwB76DhCUDMsaAmniEALw_wcB For hunting I usually have the plastic "hoop" type around my neck. https://www.amazon.com/Silicone-Reusable-Plugs-Protection-Construction/dp/B07R6NVPQN/ref=asc_df_B07R6NVPQN/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=692875362841&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17953808598233311843&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030040&hvtargid=pla-2281435178338&psc=1&mcid=82e8f6adc9333a7cb954c7d3b2c01313&hvocijid=17953808598233311843-B07R6NVPQN-&hvexpln=73&gad_source=1 -
Dreaded nonresident burned 11 points
Viper replied to POk3s's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
We used to hunt around Bellota Ranch about 40 years ago. Got into some decent bucks. I have no idea what it's like now. I'm thinking they converted it into a "dude ranch" type operation. Watch out for the shin daggers! -
Wow! You Drew with 17 bonus points?!

Thanks! Got our usual, unit 22 Oct.

I had Hunter come out to my place in Mesa. He diagnosed the problem with my DEF system. Had to order the part, which shipped from Michigan. He took care of the ordering and picking up. Came back out, got my truck running without codes. Truck was only down for a week. Very nice guy. Good communication. Knowledgeable mechanic. Likes to talk hunting. Thanks Hunter. Still no codes 😁

This is my mother's uncle, on her Dad's side. He was one of seven brothers. I knew him for time, through my teens. He was an extraordinary man...larger than life, to me. He was a gunner on a flying fortress, which was shot down. The crew parachuted out, behind German lines. His chute malfunctiond, causing him to hit the ground hard, breaking his leg, ankle, and injured his back. He was captured and a POW for nearly a year. Attached is more of his story. Interesting read.
