That's a good point. It gets hammered up there on Labor Day weekend. It may take 4 or 5 days to get back to normal. Two years ago, it was pretty quiet for the first few days of the hunt, then started getting better each day.

A buddy is up in 4B. He hasn't heard a bugle yet. I will be up Friday night to help a friend with his first archery bull tag. He also said most of the waterholes are dry.

Red Hawk Rifles sometimes has demos for a reasonable price. I got a V4 4-16x50 illuminated for $800. Looked brand new. No sign of ever being handled.

I have the 10x10 and like it. My buddy has the 10x14...very roomy for two, which I think I prefer. Not sure what size my other buddy is interested in. My 12x12 Alaknak doesn't get much use anymore.

What size? I know someone in the market.

Anyone know how much $ that tag went for?

I think I still have a business card from a Zeiss rep. I better find it and hang on to it...if it will even help.

Well, that's not good news. I have the same scope. I haven't had any trouble with it yet...I hope I never do. I've heard the same thing about Leica. I don't get why these high-end companies don't have better service. I have had very good CS with Leupold.

Wow! Great story and hunt! Congrats to all. I love these hunts shared with family. I am surprised at the amount of traffic on a private ranch hunt. That must be very frustrating. We don't read many good, detailed hunt stories on here anymore...thanks!

Where are all the scouting pictures of velvet bulls????

This one is in the manzanita. -
My hunting partner. We had December tags.

The turrets that come on the scope are MOA or Mills. The Kenton turrets are yardage turrets, based on your balistics and environmental that you specify. They are around $100. I have the V4 4-16x50 with the illuminated Z-MOA-1 (?)...like the 2nd one posted above. I really like it.

I bore scoped my new CA Ridgeline barrel...not what I expected!
Viper posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I just bought this rifle brand new, in the box from Bass Pro. Christensen Arms Ridgeline, 6.5 PRC. I thought I would bore scope it before firing the first shot. Note: I have around 30 mins total experience with this $50 bore scope, but seems pretty straight forward. I guess I expected a "match grade, lapped barrel" to be very clean and smooth lands and grooves (?). I attached a video. It starts on the groove in question, then I rotate to see the others, and back to the "bad" one, then travel up the barrel a short ways. This is at the chamber end, where the rifling starts. It looks this way through the entire barrel. To my untrained eye, it looks like gouges. Am I being concerned over nothing? Does the barrel "breakin procedure" smooth it out? Is this normal for a new barrel from CA? My main concern...will it affect accuracy? Record_3.mp4 -

Did you follow the CA break in procedure? That's a $90 break in! Seems excessive. There's a lot of conflicting opinions. -

Maybe Saturday at Jim Jones. Too bad they don't open until 9:00...it's already hot. -

Thanks to you all for the replies. I often over think it and over analyze. I will shoot it and see how it does. It probably shoots better than I. Kinda hard to go shoot with it so blasted hot and fire restrictions still in place. Btw, I posted this on Long Range Only. They seem to be big proponents of CA. They don't think it is an issue. -

Exchanging it is not an option, per Bass Pro policy. They will handle shipping to CA for warranty repair. I would have to contact CA first. Maybe I will post to Long Range Only...they seem to favor CA and have history with them. -
If so, what was your experience? Any horror stories? I am looking for a CA Ridgeline in a particular color scheme, they seem to have in stock. No luck at Bass or Sportsmans.

https://ein.az.gov/emergency-information/emergency-bulletin/tonto-national-forest-ease-fire-restrictions-july-31-2020 I need to check my cameras...but it's gonna be so stinkin' hot.

Wondering if the park/archery range is affected by the Covid panic-demic? We have a young hunter with a bull tag this year. Need to hone his skills.

Cool! Thank you.

I too had a bad experience with Montecs...older model. I spent a lot of time sharpening them before the hunt, but could not get them to shave hair off the back of my hand. I hit a 5x5 bull behind the leg, low lung, above the heart. It poked out the opposite side center of lungs. It pushed back out as he ran. Not much blood, and no blood after 100 yards. We grid searched for a total of 14 hours before finding him the next afternoon...1/2 mile away! Both lungs were punched. It was the most disturbing, emotionally draining experience I've had in hunting. I've killed 3 cows and one bull previous with Thunderheads. All died within 50 yards. But they are hard to tune. I lean toward a good fixed blade head, but like the idea of an easy blood trail. I think a good hybrid may be the trick. I like the looks of the JEKYLL or HYDE. If I had a bull tag this year, I'd probably go that route.
