Ok I might get flamed for this, but why even put in for a bull tag if you shoot the first thing with antlers? A few years back my dad had a 6A late cow hunt and we were up scouting during the rifle Bull hunt opening weekend, Spikes and rag horns hanging everywhere on opening day! Just chucked knowing it probably took the majority of those hunters several years to get that tag. If you all you gunning for is meat in the freezer put in for cow hunts? Tags are way easier to come by for cows, I've never had a bull tag but when I finally get one no way I'm dropping a rag horn unless maybe the last day ...just a thought.

Ya our buddy brought the rack by our house on his way down the hill yesterday to show us, great bull but dang that thing is going to smell for weeks. Thanks again guys.

This bull has been identified. Thank you for posting this up, we relayed the message to a buddy of ours who was up there and only had opening day and sat morning to hunt. He shot the bull opening day and looked for it sat and drove up last thursday to look as well. Needless to say I'm sure they are ecstatic to find him! Thanks again -Mike Seivert

We were in the thick of a big herd last year, maybe 100 or so elk, walked with them side by side for an hour and half waiting to get a shot at the right one...until another guy comes walking on through smoking a cigarette and lovin life. Public land hunting'.

Jr elk and Jr deer hunts set for same week.
HuntKaibab replied to Devil Diver Down's topic in Youth Hunters
Agreed, I think I had 6 Jr. Deer tags and 1 elk tag when i was an eligible junior and don't recall every having a holiday or day off school during the hunt. Had to have something down by Sunday morning or it was tag soup. -

We were pissed when we found out that most all the junior deer hunts are scheduled for the same week of the 5B south cow hunt my father and I drew. Little sister finally showed a true interest in going deer hunting this year (wanted to take her up to 12A-W to whack a doe and see some deer). She'll have to wait another year, hopefully maintains an interest. -
5B south rifle cow, had that hunt last year and it was a blast. Might try to nail one with a bow if Dad tags out first!

Hey guys, haven't posted in awhile but been trying to find a place within a short drive of N. Phoenix (I live in Anthem) to chase some deer. Just recently started getting into Archery in hopes that it would yield more oppertunity to get out, with my class schedule this year the General season is looking like it will be a weekend deal for me so probably looking to put some more weekends in and maybe arrow one. Thinking about starting at Dugas rd or Bloody Basin but have also had thoughts about trying over near Bartlett or Horseshoe or even N. of lake Pleasant if its even legal to hunt that area? Anyone ever hunt any of these areas or should I bag the local stuff and seek spots elsewhere? Just trying to figure out how close to the ballpark I am with unit 21, and 20B for that matter. Thanks for all the input in advance, good luck to everyone on opening weekend! -Mike Seivert

has anyone hunted this units for mule deer? My dad hunted unit 10 for late cow last year and said he saw very few deer but said it looked pretty good. Im kinda looking for pinon juniper country not really pines. This we we can glass long distances and put those $1600 swaros to use . So anyway i was thinking maybe unit 10. Possibly try and hunt closer to the house and try 20c or 22 maybe by rosey or something. I know this is a coues site but looking for an alternative to putting in for the grey ghost this season as i can barely ever track down a mule deer let alone a coues . O yea 1 more thing, any know of any other decent units that they offer for jr hunters this year? Thanks alot for the help guys -Mike

Excited about the regs out but now i am always thinking about hunt ill do. Probably put in for jr. kaibab but with low tag numbers probably wont draw so then what? what do you guys think? Never really hunted coues before but my dad would take us down to give it a try. What units do you all think has pretty good deer numbers? not really looking for a trophy, there are alot of jr. hunts available like one down in 36b and it only has 50 tags and was thinking with that low of numberes we would pretty much have the unit to ourselves. Not to mention the draw results for the same hunt last year was around 90% i belive so i pretty sure i could draw for that hunt. Other units i was considering was unit 31/32, 33 or 36A. All are jr. hunts with pretty low tag #'s but decent draw odds and success rates. What do you think, which units do you think i shoud give a try? Anything is great as i am pretty much blinde when it comes to hunting the grey ghost. Thanks ahead of time for all of your help. - Mike

Well while at sportsmans warehouse last night i was over in the game calls and for the first time saw grunt calls for both mule deer and coues. Just wondering if anyone has every used them before and how the worked out, and my dad has a rattling bag he uses when he goes to hunt on our property in wisconsin. How does rattling work on these western deer? thanks - mike

Ok well this isnt exactly about coues hunting but it is about huntin. ok well me (14) and my father (50) have been hunting big game in arizona for the 5 years i have been able to hunt and 3 years before (dad had the tag). Anyway it seems like whatever we do we never have success hunting here. Here is our past hunts... heres dads past 2000-6a deer no success 2001-6a deer no success 2002-6b deer no success 2003-36b deer no success 2005-19a deer no success 2006-19a deer no success 2007-19a deer no success, 10 cow elk no success 2008-19a deer no success, 6a cow elk no success not good odds now heres my past few years 2004-24b jr. no success 2005-12 AW jr. anterless... SUCCESS!!! finally first big game kill in az for my family 2006-not drawn 2007-6a jr. cow elk tag no success, 12 AW antlerless... Success! 2008-12 AW antlerless no success as you can see we havent had the best odds in the world. are we doing something wrong? I want my dad to kill something in az so bad i cant explain. We have put in for elk every year but only gotten 3 cow tags which none we were able to fill. anyway what do you guys think?

Just wondering how old you have to be to hunt by yourself with a bow in arizona... my son wans to go javalina hunting on the baack side of daisy mountain near anthem az but hes only 14. I would think that since he has to buy the general liscens now that he would be able to do it as long as he has a tag too. Any feedback would be great.

nice deer man, i have wanted to get a mulie like that my whole life but so far im 0% lol...how many time have u gotten kaibab tags? now days for the junior hunters, they can basically just get a doe tag up there. This year there were left over tags for doe, my son and 2 other kids put in and got doe tags for the past 3 years and i think he's getting tired of shooting antlerless deer , i told him to just be happy haha. Were any of those deer taken near the burn over at burt coral? just wondering. Nice bucks man!

I know that the 2008 rifle season isnt even over yet but im thinking about trying to archery hunt. What do you guys think would be the best units to try? My buddy and his daughter shot 2 deer in 34A this year so im thinking about going over there. But, do you guys think that i could find deer easier in other units? not looking for a B&C just a buck . Anything would be helpful. O yea while were on the subject, how bout the 09 rifle season? any decent units come to mind? thanks

Hey guys im new to this site as well as coues huntin. I have hunted mule deer in arizona for 8 years straight with 0% success. I want me and my son (14) to be able to bag a few bucks next year. Alot of people have told me that there are alot of little coues bucks running around southern AZ, so i was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what units to apply for and good dates to put in for as well. I have only really hunted these deer 1 time many years ago in unit 36B. I had no idea where to go and i saw only 2 bucks a long way off on the last day of the hunt. Any help would be great.
