    Non-lead bullets on the Strip

I agree completely. The copper bullets may work well, but I am not big on voluntarily giving up out rights and options. I dint want to see this go without a fight. Sorry it just does not make much sense to me.

Feral hog/Russian wild boar in 36C?

Well I can say with out a doubt that Javelinas do eat meat. I watched a pack of them eat my moms dog one night. She let the little thing out to go to the bathroom and the were on her dog faster that you can say dog food. I know that sounds like a tall tale but its a true story. Sad story but true. As far as Ferrell hogs or Russian wild bores all I know is I have lived in 36A and 36C all my live, go bird hunting, yote callen, deer hunting in these 2 units every year. I have never seen one in all my time there. I am not saying they are not there but if they are they are very rare. I think that is what makes Ernesto's find so interesting.
  4. Take a look at this one. Hold on here we go. http://spktruth2power.wordpress.com/2009/0...n-control-bill/

Feral hog/Russian wild boar in 36C?

I don't know if the Indians raise hogs. I know hogs are unpredictable creatures but I don't see why they would go all the way to the top of the Baboquivari mountains on the reservation side then back down on our side. I guess they would do it if they were chasing feed or water. Any how it is a great find. I will have to keep my eyes open for some living, breathing one the next time I am out there. Oh ya and they may be from Texas. They probably got tired of all those Texans bragin all the time and said thats it were out of here.

Feral hog/Russian wild boar in 36C?

Ernesto, I totally agree. I have been hunting 36C for years and even lived there in the 90's and have never seen a Ferrel hog. I have never heard of any one even mentioning a wild hog population in 36C. I cant see were someone would take the hog all the way out there to butcher it as well. They would pass lots of country were they could do that.........why go all the way out there. I think it is a VERY interesting find. Raises a lot of questions. I don't even know of any of the ranches in 36C that raise pigs. I don't even have a guess on this one. I would lean toward someone taking it out there to slaughter but I just don't know. Very interesting.

  9. If your considering the .270 then I would say take a good long look at the .280. The only advantage the .270 has over the .280 is the wide range of factory ammo. The Ballistics's of the .270 cant add up. You get the 7mm bullet and all its advantages. Nothing against the .270 it is a great round and always will be. You can never go wrong with the .270. My thing is what ever round you end up with practice is the key. Shot placement is what it is all about period.

    Help me pick a scope

+1. 300 rum is a heavy hitter, and I would doubt a $200-300 scope is going to hold up like it should. OTOH, a Zeiss 3-9x40 can be had for $325-$400(brand new at 400) Excellant scopes for the money and I sold a TON of them when I worked at Sportsmans Warehouse. +2 Optics is just as important as caliber choice. When the time comes to take a shot at a buck of a life time at extended range you want your optics to be top notch. Be patient and get a good quality scope.
  11. All right I have to ask, why don't you like the 7mm08. I don't have one but I have read and talked to a lot of people that own one and they love it. I always like to hear why people don't like a caliber.
  12. If your not wonting to step up to the larger calibers like the .270 or .280 (not that they are that big) then I think the 7mm08 is the best choice. Its just hard to beat that 7mm bullet. Another option is the 257 Roberts. I have used one and taken many deer with it. The down fall to that caliber is if your not doing your own reloads than ammo can be a little challenging at times, but it is a great caliber for varmints and deer size game.

    Butcher shops

I have always done my own as well. It can be a little extra work but when it comes to quality and total meat back there is no other way to go. My family has always been a big believer in getting all the fat off and boning everything out. Game fat and bone when left over time in a freezer is one of the main reasons for that classic game taste that we all love, and the main reason my wife will not touch deer. Her dad always took his deer to the butcher and they left a lot of fat and bone in. Result, well crap. The first time she had deer at my house my mom cooked it like chicken fry, we were half way through the dinner when I said how is your deer. She looked at me with a look like what do you mean. She still will not eat deer because she cannot get that taste out of her head from her childhood. Long story short, do your own you wont be sorry. I even pressure cook the bones after I am done butchering. Once you do that all the meat falls off like shredded beef. It makes the best tamale or burrito meat you can imagine. And you don't waste a scrap.

    My New Years Day Mulie!

Wow that is crazy passing up a coues that would go over a hundred on an archery hunt............. But so early in the year I guess I can see where he is coming from. He must have nerves of steel.

    when do you mount yours?

If it were me I would mount either of those two bucks those are great bucks. I would have to say it is all personal preference. My dad has a 3x3 muley mounted. It was not the biggest buck he ever killed but the hunt was one of his favorites, he said the snow was falling and it was just like a picture.

    Are you kidding me?

Excellent post, that is what I was trying to say in my last post. If you are going to be so desperate as to look at a hunting forum and follow a bunch of people around that you don't even know well..........good luck. As for me, I have MY favorite units. I hunt those units with the ones I like to hunt with, They are more than welcome to tell ANY one they want were we went, how we did, and what we saw. I hunt for fun, for getting out with people I enjoy, in country I love. I have came across MANY people that have helped me out along the way. I feel it is my responsibility to help others out as well. If thats all you are hunting for is a so called trophy, and your secret little honey hole well how sad is that. The only honey hole I have is my wife at home. And she is WAY sweeter than any hunting spot!!!!!

    Successful youth hunter

What most kids would give for a dad and family like his. You guys are doing a great job and I am sure your son is just loving every minute of it. Not to mention he has killed elk, turkey, pig. Wow what a accomplished hunter. I don't know if you guys have gotten into predator hunting at all. If you have not its a great way to fill some gaps in the down time of big game hunts. Not to mention its a big time adrenalin rush!!!

    Are you kidding me?

You know coues hunters already have the reputation of being the snobs of the hunting world in the first place. Other hunters look and some of our conversations calling mule deer "carp" and such and just don't understand. 90% of hunters would just be happy taking a animal weather it is a coues, mule deer, or what ever species they are hunting. Then add in getting bent out of shape if you simply ask what unit. My gosh, people are not asking what canyon, what mountain range etc. How secretive can we get. Are we going to start keeping caliber, season, hunting partner secret as well. I have never asked what unit in a thread simply because I have MY favorite units, and family/friends to hunt in and with. I guess I think most people look at hunting as a hobby and would just be happy hunting in country they like with people they enjoy being with. Thats what influences me and were I turn in to hunt. Not looking at a discussion forum and letting that influence my actions. I have been around enough to know that there are great deer all over the state in every unit. I understand "trophy units and higher deer densities" but I think most hunters just want the opportunity to hunt and take a deer, size is just a bonus. Thats how I go about deciding where I put in......... maybe I am just strange.
