You know I could make a really smart a$$ comment about ASU right now but I thing this sums it up better than anything I could say. Thank god I live in Wildcat country and I don't have to deal with the brain dead scum Devils. All in good fun guys, I could not resist.

That's the top nontypical and was killed in AZ, and don't get me started on that can o' worms Or the number 2 nontyp either. I think it will happen within the next 10 years or so, it will come out of Mexico, and it won't be a farm deer. San Carlos is a great possibility too. Bulwidgeon, I agree the Stockwell buck is a freak in the fact of how big he is and how symetrical he stayed, but if it happened once... And Ernesto, please, enlighten us First off yes Ernesto please let us in on who the hunter will be. Second, okay Coues Sniper I am not trying to be a smart a$$ here but whats the deal with the first and second NT Coues. I really don't know the story I would love to hear what is up if its not to much trouble.

144 1/8 is the score of the current world record. Mexico is a great guess, there is just so much untouched land down there. But I will go out on a long limb and say right here in the good ole USA. I want to say in Arizona but something is telling me New Mexico. Call me crazy I guess I just like bing different or just stupid.

IMR4350 is a great propellant, you should get some good results with it.

I am sure the ultra mag is a great round but I guess if you put 90 + grain of powder behind any bullet it will scream. I guess you have to ask yourself what type of hunting your going to be doing. If your just going to be hunting on this Continent there are a bunch of rounds that will work just fine. The .270, 30-0-6, .280, 7-mag will all work just fine for just about any North American sized game. We can talk about what caliber is better all day long. God knows there has been countless articles written about it in any shooting and or hunting magazine. But we all know the most important thing is shot placement. You can shoot an elk in the guts with a 180gr bullet at 3200fps from a .300 RUM and watch him run off and have a heck of a tracking job to do. Or you can shoot him in the vitals with a 150gr bullet at 2900 fps from a 30-0-6 and your job is done. I know shot placement is not as sexy a topic as caliber but thats the nuts and bolts of the game I guess.

Love the 7mm mag. My dad carried one for years so I am a little partial I guess. However it is a great round with a great bullet. Cant go wrong with the old 7 Mag.

Okay I will tell you first off I have never been a fan of the the shot mag idea. Sorry it just seems like a big gimmick to me to sell more guns, ammo, brass, dies, and so on. I mean just take a look at the two calibers you are considering. Can some one tell me the big advantage of the short mag. I know it is a shorter case and you don't have to pull the bolt back as far when cycling another round but come on is that it. That is the big advantage? Sorry not enough for me. Go with the old standard win mag and be done IMO. You can always find ammo, it will be cheaper, bigger selection etc. On a side note can I ask why you have narrowed it down to these to choices, there are a lot of other great calibers out there to choose form. Not that a .300 win mag is a bad choice.

Wow that really sucks!!!!! 3 vehicles stolen or broken into. I have lived in Tucson all my life and have never had a car stolen or broken into. Sorry to hear of your bad luck.

It is certainly a possibility. Best thing is not to leave any visible items in your truck that would tempt even a casual thief. Maybe park your truck close to another camp ? +1

I have been hunting 36c, 36a, and 29 exclusively for the last 20 years. I have never had more than an occasional encounter. I have heard all the horror stories but I have never come across a situation that has made me uncomfortable. With that being said the traffic can really mess up a hunt in world class time. Not to mention if BP has to get involved and bring in a helicopter or two, forget it. I have another 36 hunt this year so I guess I have not been scared off yet. Its all just personal preference. If you can handle a little extra activity and occasional close encounter, you can get into some real pretty and interesting country that you cant find any were else. On the other hand if you don't want to deal with that then don't even bother going down there.

Does anyone else......
desertdog replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
This is the age old question I guess. Bide your time while putting in for the highly coveted late December hunts in your favorite unit, or put in for your favorite unit or second unit with early hunt dates. For me I am not at the point in my hunting career that size is my main priority. I would rather be in the field with a gun in my hand and a tag in my pocket, and have a chance at a animal than waiting for a late tag. But thats just me. I understand waiting for what you want and I also understand were seeing NOT DRAWN for several years in a row gets to you. I feel your pain Coues 'n' Sheep but you know the odds and when it is your time I have a feeling you will make up for it. -
Left Over Tags "WOW" Lots left!!!
desertdog replied to SO I HUNT's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Yeah I think Game and Fish fell off their rocker this year. How do you justify adding another couple hundred tags to the 36's when there were already HUNDREDS of leftovers their last year. Maybe somebody gets a big bonus. Exactly, I cant figure that one out as well. Nothing like rubbing elbows with strangers in the field. -
The first night we usually have homemade chili made at home before we go while we set up camp. From then on its anything you can get in a dutch oven. One night we usually have dutch oven chicken with either barbecue sauce or pace picante sauce. we also do pork loin, roast, or stew. We also usually smoke a brisket or two at home before we leave pre-slice it and that makes a great dinner. The left over brisket usually go for sandwiches or with eggs for breakfast. For desert its either blueberry, peach, or blackberry cobbler, or pineapple upside-down cake. For breakfast its biscuits cooked in the dutch oven, bacon, sausage or brisket and eggs. Oh and you cant forget the New York or Rib Eye Steak seasoned with Lawry's seasoned salt, granulated garlic and pepper. That is usually the congratulations dinner after the first person tags out Oh and beer!!!!
