For starters a locator is a must. We have numerous ones but the good old 2 handed owl hoot works good. have killed birds out of there the past 3 years with last year being the best. A good box call will work, the one i have cost me about 25 bucks 8 years ago and is still going strong. I too will be in 27 early this year. good luck to ya.

Well i got my numbers wrong. Looks like im going to be killing in 27( early) yet again this year. Thats ok i know where all the birds are

Ahhhhhhhh unit 1 turkey After 3 straight years of killing in 27 im back on my home turf................YES
-
One thing i learned about that unit is get off the road and go where none of the quad and rhino hunters wont go. To many guys are lazy and wont do that. They want everyone else to do the work for them. Just saying

Hunt the 276 south all the way to the river. Hit all the side roads off that and you will run into birds.

Awesome video. Thats what its about right there. -
Were you talking to a state roadsor Forest Service guy? Thanks for the info- We are fishing up there this weekend and hope to hit Big lake if it it opens up this week. I believe the guy is contracted out of alpine to grade the roads etc. The difference in the roads just in the 2 days i was there was night and day so i would bet there open by now. Good luck fishing and good luck to anyone hunting up there the remainder of the season.

Hope you saved one for me. I can't get up until Monday. Bill Quimby O they are there. I would say they really werent hot yet so you should be good then. We went 3 for 6 with the jrs going 3 for 3 the week before so i would say it was a good 2 weeks.

As of saturday mexican hay road was still closed and you couldnt get to big lake. Comming from the east you could get to about mile marker 13 off the 249 from alpine. Most of the roads off the off the 249 are open with pretty good acess. I spoke to the guy incharge of clearing the roads and he said that most if not all of them would be cleared and opened by this weekend. In 27, the 276 is now open and goes all the way south to the river. The lower you get the better the roads are so if your hunting over there you shouldnt have any issues. Birds were real weird, gobbleing like crazy in the tree but shutting up as soon as the hit the ground. The only gobbler i had gobble on the ground mad his last gobble at about 20 yards. Opening morning bird for me. Good luck...........

There arent any deer left in 22 Dont post much but have been out a few times this year

Still new to this place. I enjoy reading all of your stories and viewing all of your pictures. I was lucky enough to draw my second coues tag in 2 years(both in unit 22) and i was even more lucky to harvest bucks on both hunts. I have to say that coues hunting is the hardest most demanding type of hunting there is. To go to the lengths you go to for these little sneeky guys is crazy. But when you finally see that animal you have worked your butt off to get too in the scope and you finally squeeze one off to see him fall. There isnt a better feeling in the world. Again congrats to everyone who harvested animals this year. Im at the work place and dont have pics of the bucks. A spike last year and a small 2 point this year.

Small world. We musta drove by that camp 50 times over the last 5 days. Tough hunt, bulls werent hot yet and were in the trees well before sun up and into the medows after dark. Cousin is still up there threw the end of the week. Hopefully things change

Just wanted to say hello. I am new here. I shot my first ever coues deer( FIRST DEER AT ALL) in unit 22 this year. He was a spike that i took from about 85 yards. I will get a pic and post it up soon. Was a hard hunt, hot and i didnt see the amount of deer that i had in previous scouting trips. Was kind of bummed out to find out that a guy shot a nice 3 point about 500 yards from my truck opening morning. Have to say im hooked on the whitetail hunting in arizona. I was awesome and im happy that i was able to fill my tag I have done alot of reading on this forum over the past few months and are just now posting. There seems to be alot of good people here and alot of people who know there stuff. TY
