22 Archery Pig and 23 Turkey. Hoping to follow up my fall turkey success in the same unit! Joe

Shhhhh, we don't tell people about 19A! There are no animals there! Haha! But yes 110 is Ok as long as your past the private property and obeying other laws. Also try past the campsites to the 108 and 9037 trails. Go to GF website "Photo" section and search 19A to see what kind of stuff is there. Good luck! Joe

I touched that buck! Even a more beautiful deer in person, Congrats! It was great to meet you guys! Joe

Wicked cool looking bull! Congrats!

Thanks for the "inside" view! Awesome to see the real story on how the animals cope with fire. I would definately do as others suggest and forward this to Moultrie! Joe

Why not a 300 WBY? My Vanguard shoots sub moa with both 168 and 210 Bergers. I had the factory install a brake(accu-brake)for $160. When you hit something with a berger it goes down and stays down. My setup has a recoil like a .243 and about the same ballistics as the Ultra. I buy new loaded Weatherby rounds at Sportsmans WH for $33 and reload after once shot so cost isn't really bad at all.

Congrats on a tough hunt!!! I'm pretty sure my boot-prints were in the same area. That first couple days of cold and wind up there kicked my butt too! I've decided no more tent camping in November. Were you camped near PS? Joe

+2 on the "Nite Cap"! Liquid is a good start but wool is better. I just dragged my really big "cap" out that I can adjust as needed, (ears/neck as needed)... those boys are correct about keeping the brains warm. You will sleep much better. The older I get, seems the smarter (more wussy) I get. I added an "oversized" cot this year instead of the air mattress and lots of comforter/blankets. Martha Stewart would be proud. I have been looking for heaters for the last week and this thread is perfect timing. Thank you! My big 'ol tent breathes ok but you never really know.... Seriously, good points! Joe

Adam, I still have yours and Cody's #'s. I'm not kidding about calling you. Just hope my gamble works. Sorry I can't be more help but keep the faith! Joe

Adam, I have the same tag. I also had a deer tag there last month. (Mostly to scout and get one of my buddies his first deer, both worked out well!) I have been doing TONS of scouting all over the unit since August and come up with some good areas and saw more Elk than deer on the last hunt. So here's the deal. I wrote your number down. If I get lucky and knock one down or feel really confident about my chances after opening day, I will call you and give you all the info I have. Sorry but I'm not giving up any of my hard work and $ spent until then or I'm just done hunting. I will tell you this, they are both high and low right now and I've seen multiple good bulls. With only 38 other hunters I personally look forward to getting a good chance to hunt without too much overrunning of each others space. Best of luck to your friend. Joe

I have seen a few of the same situations recently there also. I really like the convience but, I am a bit frustrated too. I am holding off on my year membership til I see what happens. I spoke to one of the RM's there last time and he told me they are working them something like 11 hours per day Fri-Sun. and they are overworked and tired. This may explain some of the "attitude"? I'm not defending them but just trying to figure this out from a common sense point of view. Some of my other observations are: It's basically a double-edged sword. With all the closures of Trust land to target shooting there are more people going to ranges. This is good because it keeps our open land cleaner/safer (I've been on a couple cleanups and some people are unbelievable) BUT, you still have the same jackwads now forced to display their stupidity in a more public forum and the RM's have to babysit them. Hopefully they will learn the right way to do things but who knows? BUT....It also helps to keep them out of our hunting units and messing up hunts (hopefully). Also as we all know everyones budget is tighter now so the staffing thing may not be fixable immediatly and they need all the funds they can get to keep what we have. The 300 yard targets may have been shut down due to time constraints with the new volume of shooters? Like I said I'm not defending them but take a few seconds to think about the alternative. Believe me, we don't want this state to turn into another California!!! I will continue to support them with my $7 when I need to and use my vote etc to change what I can and pray for more ranges! Joe

Kinda scarry! If I shoot my bull on the last evening of my hunt and he runs off not to be found until the next day is it illegal for me to collect him? WOW! EagleEye you are a good Dude! Thanks for being a true sportsman! Good luck to Steve!

Dicks has some good deals. They have the Stack-on Elite 24 gun for $549. I was told by the sales guy that as a "door buster" at Thanksgivng it will be $449+ a $50 gift card "like last year". Take it for what it's worth but he sounded pretty sure of himself. It weighs over 400# as is fire resistant to 1200 deg for 1/2 hour. I also saw this same unit for $549 at Sports Authority on Stapley/Baseline. Crittergetter is correct about the dangers of drilling post-tension slabs. Joe

WOW!!! Way to go!

A guy I work with hunted 33 last week with his family that has hunted there for years. He said there was a deer killed in that unit that may be a new (World-Coues) record? Supposedly GandF even escorted him to have it scored? Haven't heard anyhting else though. Anyone else hear anything? Joe
-
Great buck! Ditto the on the .243. Joe

160 Nosler Partitions or accubonds for sure will work if they group well in your rig. You want to be able to penitrate shoulder for a knock-down if you need to. Practice, practice, practice.

What I found very strange is the buck I took last month (oct) had been "scrapping' already. Hope you can see the "green" on his rack. He also had urine stains on him from marking and several does hanging out with him. I would have sworn he was rutting?

Anyone hear about a record coues this year?

This would have been two weekends ago. You know how these stories go though. I guess we'll see? -
