    Mr. Bobcat Down

Nice lookin Tom cat. That country looks familiar: Rio Grande Valley, TX???? LOL.. I called 3 in one winter... Never called one before or after.. I do not know what I did differently in that time frame, but can't seem to duplicate it... Whitey
  2. I need some input as to what bullet I should reload in a 30 cal. rifle. Here is my dellema; I want to reload 30-06, 300 Win. mag and 300 wsm. (I have several hundred empty brass of each). I want to load one bullet that will work well in all applications. (I realize I should experiement with different loads, different bullets and see what works best in each gun.) I am looking for an all around hunting bullet. I am considering The Berger vld, the CT silver-tip,and the Nosler Accu-bond. Give me some input .................................. Thanks, Whitey

    when do you mount yours?

I am facing the same quandry. I have a 94 incher mounted already, and just killed a 105 (104 7/8). So, do I mount the new one as well, or just have my tax just change the antlers out on the old mount????????????? I will probably just mount the new one as well. Whitey-
  12. I am pretty new to this forum, but thought I would share my buck with the rest of you. I just returned from my Dec. Coues deer hunt in Southern Arizona. (I have been informed that some members don't like you to list the unit that a buck was harvested in, so let's just say it is pretty close to Mexico) At anyrate; we hunted for 10 days with a 3 day recess for the holidays. We glassed a ton of bucks, but nothing over 100 inches. My best buck todate was 94 inches so I was set on a 100 incher or nothing. We found 8 bucks that scored 92 - 99 ish but I just could not put that extra couple inches on any of them. I think my buddies that were helping me glass were getting a bit peeved that I was passing on some really good bucks, but once again, I had my sights set on a 100 incher or nothing! On Saturday moring I found the deer I was looking for, but he disapeared about 10 min. after the sun came up. I was temped to hike up the canyon and try to find him bedded, but decided against it in fear of blowing him out of there for good... Long story short on Monday morning we glassed him up again in the exact same spot he was feeding in on Saturday. This time I waisted no time starting my stalk! We was about a mile from us and feeding in some occatillos. I ran across a series of drainages, and started up hill. After what seemed like a lifetime I thought I was in possition to top out and find him. Three times I topped over the finger I was on to try to find him. Three times I was looking at what appeared to by the occatillos he was feeding in, but It did not look just the same, so I would back out and climb higher up the finger. They say (who ever "they" are) that three times is a charm, and it was. The third time I topped over the finger I knew that it was now or never because I was at the top of the knob I was climbing. I topped of the finger again and sat in some tall grass for cover. It took about 30 seconds of glassing off my shooting sticks to find him! He was bedded 148 yards across the canyon behind some occatillos. All I could see of him was his RACK, his face, and a small portion of his neck! After months of practicing at 3,4, and 5 hundred with my rifles, (and buying a new rifle a month before the hunt, but that is a whole other story), my 10 day hunt, and search for my first 100 inch buck was completed with one 148 yard shot across a small canyon. I was forced to shoot the buck in the neck, but it worked out well. The buck gross scores 105, and I could not be happier. ( Well, maybe with a 115,but that will have to wait for next year; I hope..... Thanks for reading. Whitey

    The Hunters became...

Congrats on a great day. I was in 36-c for the past 5 days also. I also glassed up a lion on Saturday around 5:45 pm. Lots o dear, and lots of lion. DW
  15. Anyone seen any hard core rutting activity yet? I was in 36-c for 3 days over Thanksgiving, and we some some inmature bucks sparing and chasing but no real rutting at that time. Has anyone seen anything yet? I have the 36-c Dec tag that starts on the 12th. Any info would be good. Thanks, DW
  16. I spent 3 days in 36-c over Thanksgiving. At that time the young deer were sparing and chasing a bit. Does anyone have any information on the rutting activity of late? I have the C tag in Dec. Any information would be helpful. Thanks, DW

    Are they rutting???

Thanks for the insight guys. What do you mean "glassing"? I usually just walk around in the mesquite flats with my open sight 30-30. Thanks DW
  18. I just purchased a Weatherby Vanguard Sub MOA. I took it into get bore sighted with my scope and the Leupold bases did not line up at the same elevation. As a result they could not bore sight my scope (it ran our of vertical adjustment). The guy at Sportsman's Wherehouse said that he has seen that problem before with Wetherbys. Have any of you heard of this as a problem??????? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, DW
  19. Getting ready to work up a reload for a 300 wsm. I want ONE bullet that will work for everything from Coues to elk. (Probabley want ever hunt elk with a rifle, so Coyote to Mule deer). At any rate, what bullet and what weight have you had the best luck with in 300 wsm?? Obviously I want the best penatrating bullet that flys the best. I shoot from 100 to 600 yards or more. Give me your input. Thanks, DW

What bullet for a 300 wsm

Thanks a ton Red Rabbit. That gives me a good place to start.
  22. Thanks KRP As luck would have it I ran into a fellow hunter/ shooter out shooting this morning. He seems to really know his stuff, and has agreed to help me work up a load for both my 300wsm and 300 win mag. It is truely funny the way things work out. Thanks again for the input. DW
  23. Ok, Here is my strange request: I have 100 or so spent cases of both 300 wsm, and 300 win mag brass that I need to reload/ work up a reload. So here's the deal; I do not reload or own a reloader. I am looking for someone in the Phoenix/ Peoria area who has the equipment that might consider helping me out! I am NOT looking for a free service, just someone who knows the ins and outs of reloading, and has the equipment to do it. I am more than willing to pay for the reloading. Let me know if any of you are interested. Thanks in advance, Darin Williams (Whitey)

    Big mountain lion

5oo lbs???? NOPE! I have hunted lion in AZ for 22 years, and I doubt we ever killed any lion over 220 pounds. Very few ever found their way to a scale, but the couple exceptionally big ones that did were less than 200 pounds. A friend of mine killed a lion that measured 9 ft. 1 inch from note to tip of tail, but he did not weigh it. I am new to this sight, but so far I read about a guy who has a 30-06 that only drops 30 inches at 1000 yards, and now a 500 pound Mt. lion. It is definately entertaining! DW
  25. Thanks for the response. Yes, it would have to be the right person. I use to reload a ton in the mid 90's; before kids and wife. ( I lived with a good friend who had all the equipment) I reloaded 6mm, .223, 22-250, and 06. I was very meticulous about each step. Maybe your right, I should just buy the stuff myself. Good huntin
