    22-250 vs 243

I have 3 boys. "Thank god". I started them at 5 with a . 22 with a scope. At 7 they all were shooting the .223s. As of today they all are shooting the .243! At 100, 200, and 250 they all were popping milk jugs! The oldest is 9 years old. I still say the .243 is the smallest I would hunt with.... Whitey

WTT/ WTS Custom .270 Win (SOLD)

I have a .270 Win that I would like to trade for something smaller. (.223, 22-250, .243 etc) This Rifle is built on an Interarms Mark X Mauser 98 action, at some point it was re-barrelled with a P.O. Ackley built .270 Win barrel. (Yes, the P.O. Ackley that created the Ackley Improved cartridges built this barrel) it has a synthetic Butler Creek stock, and sports a Simmons 4-16 scope with Adjustable Objective. This rifle has seen a lot of use and shows some scatches for it, but is in great mechanical condition and shoots great. I traded for this rifle and really don't have a use for it. I Would include 3 boxes of ammo with the trade. PM trade offers. (If someone was interested in purchasing this rifle they could pm me and we could figure out a price) Whitey
  5. Just got back from a muzzle-loader hunt in Utah. I killed a 4x4 in velvet on the first day, then my buddy killed a 3x4 on day two. Our group killed 6 in 3 days. Sorry no detailed story, but I am tired!! We saw a ton of deer, elk, turkey, a bobcat, and a bear killed by hound hunters. All in all a great hunt. Nothing big, but lots of fun..... Whitey

    22-250 vs 243

The funny thing about kids is that they grow..... nuff said... I would go with the .243 all day long. as far as the NEF I would stay away from them. I have had 3-4 of them, from .223 - 45-70 all of them have had ejection problems. On top of that $90 sounds good for a different barrel, but put even a decent scope on it and you are at $300 bucks each. Just buy a different rifle.... Just my .02 cents Whitey

  11. Leupold Vari-X II rifle scope. It has the 40 mm front objective, 1 inch tube, and the duplex reticle. The glass is 100% perfect as new. There are light ring marks on the under side of the tube. If you can live with some light ring marks that will be covered up by the new rings you can save a $100 bucks. I will sell this scope for $225. (Check on ebay the last scope just like this sold for $225, and mine you can come look at, and not pay shipping) As always, trades are welcome Whitey

    leupold (cds) scope

I just "re-scoped" a couple rifles, and I was looking hard at the cds. What I learned from the guys at leupold is that the cds has only one full twist of elevation adjustment in the cds scope. He said that in the 270 short I was setting up that would get me out to 500-600 with a 200 yard zero. If that works for you I would go for it. If you want/ need to shoot out past 600 you would need the true "tall" target turret. Whitey

Carrying a side arm while bow hunting?

Ask 5 different Game and Fish officers, and you will get 4 1/2 different answers...... On just about any law inforcement topic... Way too much "grey" area....... Sorry in advance if YOU are the one G&F that knows the correct answer. My advice is to go to the Arizona Rev. Statutes and look it up. Whitey

    Back from Utah

Congrats. I leave a week from Tuesday to go on a muzzleloader hunt in the same spot you just got back from. (I recognize the lake and the forest service depot) See any bear? Seams like we always see a couple every year. Congrats again.... I think I will take my bow with me as well... Whitey

No buck, but a lion instead

Congrats on the lion! The chance of seeing him, within bow range, and while at full draw just looking around........ 1:1,000,000 does not even begin to measure it... Congrats again. As far as Taxidermist go my recommendation would be "Ahead of the game taxidermist". He did my lion and did a really nice job. The Number is (623)572-5067 He also does great deer, elk, etc. As far as freezing the lion and then taking it to cattle and carp (game and fish) the best way to do it is to block the mouth open before you freez it. Sound a bit too late for that. If you thaw it out to take in a would not re-freeze it. Just keep it in the fridge or ice chest until you take it into the tax. Whitey

    Rifle scope for 7mm

+1 on the vx-L with b/c reticle. I have two of the exact scope and like them both a ton. One is on a 300 wsm, and the other on a 270 wsm. Other than a Swarovski, I would not put anything else on them. Whitey
