I just did the very same thing. I sold my swarovski 10x42's and bought the geovids. The glass is better, and the range finder is rated out to 1300 yards. I have personally had it read 1150 off a tripod. The range finder is instant; no delay at all. The best part is you can actually see the number print out in the rangefinder, unlike the swarovski range finder.. I say do it and never look back. I love swarovski glass, and would never had traded other than the range finder feature, but in retrospect I am glad I did for both the rangefinder feature, and I truelly think the glass is brighter... Both great guns, and I too have had both. (Sold the 7mm for a 300 Win, and just bought my kids a new .243) I killed many coues with the 6mm, 80 gr bullet out past 400. I fight the same battle every time I go hunting; which gun to take? I usually opt for the bigger gun with heavier bullet... Will the .243 work great with the correct bullet? Yep. But, ask yourself, if everything was wrong what gun would you rather have? Big buck (120+) is across canyon at dusk, he is getting ready to cross over the boundry to the reservation to the west, the wind is blowing hard (2o mph +) it is the last evening of your Dec tag that you have waited 10 years to draw, he is at 555 yards, (5 is my favorite #), he is quartering away at a bad angle, and it is raining. Ok, you get my drift. In these adverse conditions would you want to guess at what that wind will do to your 100 gr 243 bullet, if the .243 is blown off just a litle, and hits the deer in the rear quarter, do you think he will drop before he reaches the res boundry etc, etc, etc,.... Shoot the 7 mag, and never look back. I read that you shot your last buck at 60 yards, and that is great, but don't limit yourself to the close ones. I would say the average coues deer shot that I get is 200- 500 and beyond. Shoot the 7mm and leave the 243 for the kids, and coyote hunting.... Whitey

Never thought I would sell ammo, but I have reloads for all these calibers, and don't see this ammo getting shot up, and hate to waist it as "fouling rounds" or on coyotes....... At any rate, here is what I have; 3 boxes of 300 wsm Winchester silver tips (150 gr) 1 box of 300 wsm Winchester XP3 (150gr) 1 box of 270 wsm Winchester Silver tips (150 gr) 3 boxes of 300 Win mag Winchester silver tips (180 gr) 1 box of 300 Win mag Winchester xp3 (180 gr) the silver tips sell for 45$/ box, and the xp3 sells for closer to $50 I will take $35/ for silver tips, and $40 for the xp3. Let me know if you can use it.. If interested in multiple boxes just PM me an offer. Thanks, Whitey p.s. I was going to take a picture but, THEY'RE BULLETS......

I have had two 300 wsms (still have one, and it is one of my favorite rifles) both guns shot the winchester 150 gr. silver tips very well...MOA very consistatly out of my Weatherby sub MOA. Also might want to try the xp3 by winchester. big bucks, but worked well also. Let me know if you start reloading, I have some reloads that shoot awesome. Whitey

270 short for sure. Loader with a 130 gr accubond I get 3345 out of mine. This is out of a 23 inch barrel. I have some big, heavy, LLLOOONNGGG 30 cals that are just a pain to carry while hunting. The 270 wsm is a short action rifle, that can, and does get max speed out of a relatively short barrel with moderate recoil... Nuff said. For everything in Arizona smaller than elk, I think it is very hard to beat. Match it up with a good scope with target turrets, and you have a deer killing machine. Whitey

I like to stay a little conservative when field judging, so I am going to continue the trend and say 119 7/8 gross.. Very impressive buck. Whitey -

Let me preface this post with the fact that I "DO NOT" own any stock in any rifle manufacturing company.... That being said, I want to let you guys know about a "cheap rifle" I just bought for my kids that I am completely surprised with. (In a good way) OK my story; I am lucky enough to own more rifles than I need, and more than my wife know that "we" own. I also have 3 boys (7,8,9 years old) They are all getting ready to enter into the age to create their own hunting stories. (I am sure they are tired of hearing about mine) All 3 boys shoot my .223 very well, and I wanted to buy them a rifle of their own. I wanted something inexpensive because I know it will be dropped, the scope with get dinged up etc, etc. ( I would come unglued if they dropped my rifle LOL) I looked at several used rifles in ..243 but none of the deals came to be. I walked into a local sporting goods store that starts with a "C" and here is what I bought..... For $230 dollars I bought a brand new rifle with: a crowned barrel, piller bedded action, fluted bolt, completely adjustable trigger (just like accu trigger), floated barrel, and a synthetic stock. I bought the rifle with the youth stock. Out the door with scope rings, a box or bullets, and tax for $295. Now to the range.... I expected very average performance out of a $300 "Cheap" rifle. After mounting a very average 3x9 scope I was off to sight in and season the barrel.. Sub moa groups at 100 yards with two different types of 80 gr. cheap bullets! Now, I have never shot it past 100 yards yet, but needless to say I recomend it highly to anyone. What is it?? A marlin XS-7 It sells new everyday of the year for $299 If you are looking for a kids gun, or an inexpensive rifle that will shoot better than you can, give it a look.. Again guys, I don't own stock in Marlin, but I am not easily impressed with hunting gear, but this little rifle blew my socks off. It is not very often that you feel like you got more than you paid for, but this is that time. I am considering going back and picking up another in 25-06 for me. I could call it my back up to my packups backups backup. My .02 cents Whitey

More Rifle than I paid for!!!
lionhunter replied to lionhunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Bullwidgeon, Sounds like you are a little angry........ Sorry your friend can't get his to group, but like I said I am just trying to share what I consider to be a great buy with fellow CWT members. Thay are currently making the short action in .243, 7mm-08, and .308. Long action in .270, 30-06 and 25-06. If they were smart they would add the 22-250, 7mag, 300 win and some of the wsm to the production of this rifle. It may very well be that I just got a good one, but Look it up on the internet/ reviews. A ton of guys are luvin em. Whitey -

MT.CAT ?? PM sent -
I have 3 boys. "Thank god". I started them at 5 with a . 22 with a scope. At 7 they all were shooting the .223s. As of today they all are shooting the .243! At 100, 200, and 250 they all were popping milk jugs! The oldest is 9 years old. I still say the .243 is the smallest I would hunt with.... Whitey

I have a .270 Win that I would like to trade for something smaller. (.223, 22-250, .243 etc) This Rifle is built on an Interarms Mark X Mauser 98 action, at some point it was re-barrelled with a P.O. Ackley built .270 Win barrel. (Yes, the P.O. Ackley that created the Ackley Improved cartridges built this barrel) it has a synthetic Butler Creek stock, and sports a Simmons 4-16 scope with Adjustable Objective. This rifle has seen a lot of use and shows some scatches for it, but is in great mechanical condition and shoots great. I traded for this rifle and really don't have a use for it. I Would include 3 boxes of ammo with the trade. PM trade offers. (If someone was interested in purchasing this rifle they could pm me and we could figure out a price) Whitey

Just got back from a muzzle-loader hunt in Utah. I killed a 4x4 in velvet on the first day, then my buddy killed a 3x4 on day two. Our group killed 6 in 3 days. Sorry no detailed story, but I am tired!! We saw a ton of deer, elk, turkey, a bobcat, and a bear killed by hound hunters. All in all a great hunt. Nothing big, but lots of fun..... Whitey

The funny thing about kids is that they grow..... nuff said... I would go with the .243 all day long. as far as the NEF I would stay away from them. I have had 3-4 of them, from .223 - 45-70 all of them have had ejection problems. On top of that $90 sounds good for a different barrel, but put even a decent scope on it and you are at $300 bucks each. Just buy a different rifle.... Just my .02 cents Whitey

Hey Mike, Sorry to hear about the job situation, but it sounds like things are looking up. What is the "black gun" shown in the pics? I did not see it listed or priced. Whitey
